underfooter said:This doesn't look cool. I don't like switch characters to reach new areas. That is the lamest and oldest trick in the book to 'upgrade' a sequel. This game is clearly made for kids, and I doubt will be that good.
omg rite said:yeah man, CLEARLY made for the kids. it's a good thing you can tell just by looking at it.
because if you look at the original Yoshi's Island, you would think it was made for adults, rite?

Yeah, it doesn't look so much like YI, more like... Yoshi's Touch'n'Go :\unifin said:Looks awesome, but the art-style is somewhat changed... the original YI looks a bit softer and more organic... less straight lines, if that makes sense.
mr jones said:I truly feel sorry for Artoon.
They are basically attempting to make a sequel to one of the best platformers that Nintendo has ever released, and I don't think they will be able to do it.
"Here, son. This is the screenplay for The Shawshank Redemption. I want you to write a sequel."
"But....but....!!"

A Link to the Past said:Two - A giant Shy Guy on stilts? Wow, how unoriginal of Artoon, making a boss that's just a giant version of an enemy. Nintendo didn't do that, no sir!
With the exception of every single boss in the game.
Kangu said:We all know Artoon are the kings of originality. Who else can come up with a time traveling hoover toting cat?
I really don't get people's optimisim over this game. Is it just blind devotion to a brand name? If I found out Artoon was developing the next instalment in any series I was interested in you can be damned sure I'd completely disavow it's existance.
Mithos Yggdrasill said:No, it is that E3's Hands On were very good. So, perhaps Artoon can fail on lifespan and/or originality, but not gameplay.
Kangu said:Maybe I missed it, but show me an awesome video from this game that can get me excited. I'm not being facetious, I genuinely want to know what people have seen that makes them so optimistic.
Mithos Yggdrasill said:This is a gameplay's trailer I found. But there are some interesting Impressions on IGN, Gamespot, Gamespy and more.
Click Right to Save - MP4 File
EDIT: Sorry, it was the same trailer.
Kangu said:Well I appreciate the effort, but that video just served to further convince me that at best this game has a chance to be average. Particularly compared to the original. And after all, aren't the original's credentials the only reason anyone is excited for this?
omg rite said:you are ABSOLUTELY trying to find reason to discredit the game.
that further convinces you that it will be average at BEST?
that video looks IDENTICAL to the original in gameplay. that's what people want.
plus, they're adding the multi-baby thing, which will hopefully add a lot.
Kangu said:What's to discredit? It's being made by Artoon, that discredits it all on it's own. I'm more suprised that people are giving it credit.
Artoon has done alot more games than that, the reason you havn't heard about them is that they're not particularly good.omg rite said:they had the mediocre Blinx games and that GBA Yoshi game
omg rite said:to say they can't completely copy the style of the original game and make a good game is flat out stupid. people shouldn't not give it credit because Artoon is making it.
hahahax said:Good about the name change. The previous name hinted at this game being part of the Mario storyline. Now everyone must realize that this game is a 'dream match' as you would say when it comes to fighting games that bears no impact on the overall storyline (kof98).
It's a cash-in using familiar settings. It's not a 'sequel' to Yoshi's Island which was a prequel to Mario Bros and Donkey Kong (whichever took place first). I mailed Nintendo about this a few months back, and it seems they listened to my plea and changed the name.
I mean really, Mario and friends as babies at the same time? Baby Princess Toadstool on Yoshi Island? When it is specifically stated that Mario and Luigi's first encounter with Princess Toadstool occured in SMB1.

like I already mentioned, the original YI is great because of the LEVEL DESIGN, not because of the mechanics. The fact that Artoon already has the mechanics laid out means jack shit.
And it's one thing to copy the style of say, Crash Bandicoot, and make a good game in that context and it's quite another to copy the style of one of the best 2-d plataformers ever and make a good game in that context.
Kangu said:TheTrin is right on the money: Nintendo is farming out our dreams. To take one of it's most beloved and aclaimed franchises and farm it out to ****ing Artoon can't be seen as anything other than completely arrogant and insulting to the fanbase.
the androgyne said:You shouldn't be so angry about it all though.
Even if it completely sucks ass, the original will still be one of if not the best games ever.
True, but there's nothing to suggest the level design won't be good. In the slightest. If you watched a movie put together of 4 second clips from different stages from the first YI, it'd look just like the movie linked above.
Alkaliine said:You calling Metroid Prime a FPS?
Isn't it a FPA?
BrandNew said:I thought we've been through this before.
Kangu said:Well lets say you've been waiting for a sequel for this game for a long time and suddenly a decade after the fact the sequel is announced. You'd probably get pretty damned excited until you find out it's a farmed out, half-assed, side project designed as a cash in. I think it tarnishes the brand and, like I mentioned, looks to take advantage of fans.
