...I totally remember Ed(d?) the Duck. Also Andy Peters singing over the Ninja Turtles theme, which nearly made me Taz out with impotent child rage. The song was great, and he ruined it. I hope he gets his knighthood taken away.

Whoa. This one is one of the few in this thread that surprised me. I used to watch a few of his videos a long time ago (along with Charles Trippy when he had gotten engaged/married?), then I stopped for reasons I can't remember.

For all I knew, Shay Carl and his family were still out there making their daily videos, so to see this is rather shocking, to say the least.

You see all the media coming from there, especially the videogames which pretty much dominated everything for many years but then you learn about the extreme xenophobia, the problematic human rights records, the lacking sense of wrong about WW2, the weak democracy and that the justice system in Ace Attorney is less of an exaggeration than you thought...

And of course the author of Felidae. Not enough that the movie of the book terrorizes children throughout the country, the guy himself is a prominent speaker at neonazi and Pegida rallies despite being an immigrant himself...

Nah, Rowling's said some shitty stuff lately when it comes to politics; if it was just over her inane additions to Harry Potter lore that'd be a bit of an overreaction but it's more than that.

A lot of people didn't like that she was not a fan of Corbyn. She was still anti-Tory, but didn't think Corbyn had it. Personally she was in the right - all the evidence prior to the election campaign suggested he was incompetent if well meaning. Then they ran an excellent campaign.

Also, I believe she is anti-Scottish Independence, which winds up people in favour of it.

Basically she hasn't done anything bad.

Boogie isn't actually a centrist though. He's chummy with sexists and clearly supports them, but he uses the claims of centrism to do so while keeping up his innocent act. He may have also weaponized his depression at least once to shut down a conversation arguing against sexists.


Regarding Notch. I have no interest in Minecraft, so basically any time I hear about him it's because he's said some fucking awful thing. Do you remember when he tried to blackmail a woman to win an online conversation? Not even a heated one. She politely disagreed with him on Twitter and he threatened to reveal something from some time she was at a party of his. To be fair, he apologized afterward and acknowledged that what he did was fucked up. But when you combine the fact that he regularly says awful shit with the fact that awful behaviour is his natural response to normal social situations, Notch starts to look like he's Dr. Jekyll; losing a battle to retain any shred of his human decency.

Phil ruined the opening animation for hardworking, TV-licence-paying children, but at least he didn't sing over the music. Andy Peters went for a full sensory assault, and I hope in 100 years he is remembered only in Krampus or Slendermanesque myths as a creature who steals music from children.


Back on the Milkshake Duck train, I feel old movies and shows that you go back to as an adult and find out were actually incredibly homophobic, transphobic, or racist need a kind of subcategory. Here's an example I recently discovered while trying to desensitise myself to Zelda from Terrahawks, in the hopes of diminishing the frequency of the recurring nightmares she still induces in me.

Doug TenNapel is definitely the one that sticks out for me, and I'm not sure why. I liked EWJ, mostly for the creative aesthetics, but I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan (and I never could get past that bit worth the underwater glass bubble things, seriously fuck that level).
I think it's just because his bigotry is so damn egregious. It's not just some naive minor celebrity who shouldn't have been given a platform revealing his unexamined bigotry. There's an unpleasant glee to his homophobia; he seems to extract real pleasure from making people feel bad. He feels like a genuine villain... or at least he would, were it not for his pitiful habit of magically showing up to argue in any comment thread that mentions his name. The man must be Googling himself daily.
