Zelda: Breath of the Wild "OMG I didn't know you could do that!" thread [SPOILERS]

Great thread there are so many dam things to do. True openworld feel.

If you use the high jump blessing to get to the labyrinth on top right of the map, you can float directly to the top platforms of the maze. I jumped across the top platform while stealthily avoiding the drones and made it to the center of the maze. I just got super lucky that i chose the correct entry way on the first try
the bottom left entrance

I had no food or elixirs for the cold weather, so I equipped my Fire Rod thinking "this won't work, but eh..."

It worked, just holding raised my body heat

probably already mentioned but you can melt ice cubes/iced objects by equipping a fire weapon and simply standing next to it. You can even have the weapon sheathed and it will still melt the ice.

So I think I have about 17 hrs in, finished the Zora guardian and I'm not sure I'm liking this Zelda... I really want to like it but weapon durability and constant inventory management is getting to me.

Does weapon durability really get better later on? I've upgraded my inventory a few times and now the guy is in korok village, anyone know where that is? I think so far I've only opened up the right side of the map.

And don't get me started on gyro puzzles on the Wii u gamepad. Also anyone else playing on Wii u have their game frame rate hit single digits when a moblin ragdolls? It happened 3 times last night...

Gonna spoiler this just in case but they're just responses to your questions/concerns.
- Weapon durability definietly gets better a enemies carrying better weapons and more likely to be have special abilities like Durability Up)

- The Korok guy moves to the woods north of Hyrule Castle. You can go there at any time.

- Gyro puzzles can generally be cheesed.

- Moblin frame rate drop is a problem on Switch too. It's really weird.

Befriend a dog:
1. turn in a circle in front of him until the love thing appears
2. Give him 5 apples, he'll eat 2-3
3. He'll take you to a hidden chest (which I don't appears until you befriend him).

Yay! one that hasn't been mentioned yet that i've found:

If you ever run into a Blupee, find the high ground (without scaring it) and trigger the slow-mo arrow mechanic. With that triggered, shoot the blupee as many times as possible.

If you have a quick shot bow+high stamina you can get a good haul of rupees

This is actually the best way to kill guardians i've found. Every time you destroy a leg you get an extra ancient part

edit: they can tip over but i don't think they die? just makes them much easier to kill when they can't move

Really? I've been doing it with potlids. It's a visual cue, you hit A the second the eye flashes blue.

The blue flash works for me with Guardian shields, but not the other ones I've tried. I must just be timing it wrong

It also interrupts their movement and attack, you can basically chain stun them. I've never had them instantly die from tipping.

You can do a quick 180 while dashing by hitting A as you change direction.

Bombs can get rid of bees. This works for flocks of Keese too.

Shooting a bomb arrow into a flock of Keese is one of the best things I've done in this game. So satisfying.

The painter dude you (probably) first meet at Kakariko village will also be at the stable nearest to those locations, and point you towards them. Though I don't think there's one for the hyrule castle location.

I think he will give you a hint about this one if you run into him at Lurelin Village.

For people not confident with their shield parry for guardians I'm also sure that Daruk's Protection can do the job for you. While i'm on about champion abilities, Urbosa's fury has a strong stunlock period that even toasts Guardians for a significant amount of time, save their legs for when the stun wears off to keep them helpless.

Also some armour dye jobs add a little more than just colour changes, the barbarian armour war paint patterns change slightly depending on the colour, the skeleton armour takes on a more traditional luchadore look with colour changes.

Building up pace with a raft using the korok leaf can have a humorous side effect if you send the raft crashing into land at high speed, it'll launch Link clear off and deal damage.

Rito village has swell music, we all know that. To add to it there's at least two sidequests that upon completion can add an extra touch to the theme.
Upon completing Warbler's Nest the Rito kids will be up at the takeoff point overlooking Warbler's nest adding birdsong to the theme.
Completing all of Kass' sidequests has him return to the village, accordion in tow of course for that extra layer to the theme.

Lastly for something that's probably obvious to some but overlooked by others, certain stables have a stablehand that will let you modify the look of your horse to a degree, even if you don't have any extra saddles or bridles you can still stylise your horses manes.

At step #1, you can also just sit down in front of the dog to get the love thing to appear. And meat and probably other kinds f food work at step #2.

If you haven't noticed yet, posters on stables will often show unique recipes. One at Rito Stable shows how to make meat stew with cold resistance for example.

Electric attacks also stun guardians, at least the test of strength ones.

Yeah and they explain it to you too with a window pop up the first time you get a bow. /Facepalm

Pretty sure that instruction says "take our your bow" and then press right on the d-pad to select a bow (and left to change arrows). No bow to take out = can't follow that instruction.

In this case just check the maze on your map that doesn't have a shrine marked/completed yet since they're all shrine based chests.

I beat one shrine in every maze, do you mean that one of the mazes has 2 shrines?

Also, if you complete a combo the guardian will flinch and stop it´s current attack sequence. For example, if it´s preparing the sword and you manage to hit him with a full series of spear attacks, a special sound will trigger, the small guardian will get pushed back and it won´t launch the sword attack. So if you can keep up your offensive you can completely shut down their attack (except when they jump backwards to prepare a spinning charge or laser beam).

Another tip: Look at the floor of the shrine when fighting guardians: you can use magnesys and cryonis to lift/create pillars to stop the charging spinning attack if there are no pillars in the room.

Does anyone have any tips on easily defeating Lynels? I feel like I go through all of my weapons when trying to take one down.

Well I mean it's a game, so can be read as "press the 'take out your bow' button", right? ;)

you can reflect guardian's laser to them with the parry!

I figured this out only by accident during
the final boss fight. Isn't this the only way to beat Calamity Ganon? If there's another way (especially when he's "invincible" during the final quarter-health), I would LOVE to know because he was ruining me.

There are 3 mazes? I've only done the ones
on the northeastern island
and
in the Gerudo desert
. Where is the third one?

They're all at least visible as soon as you open the map for that respective area. No underground nonsense.

Although the island one actually has an underground...

That accidental block of guardian laser, which lead to the perfect guard of the guardian laser. Changed the motherfucking game for me. I go out of my way to fuck with them now.

Or, shoot in eye, when stunned, mount it from behind (haha, not like that) and start spamming attack.

You can also let it get close and back flip multiple times in a row to get flurry rushes in.

Awesome, thanks for the helpful tips! I'll try them out tonight.

The goron escort mission is probably the worst part about this game. This fat fucking goron doesnt know how to stay hidden for shit

You can also parry most Lynel attacks, if your timing is good. I can do it about half the time or better for most encounters. Dodging or flipping for flurry rushes is pretty good too.

This was me when I learned about cutting their legs off. It made fighting them a breeze from then on as I could basically stun lock them until dead. All those shiny gears!!!!

I was at the tropical town just off of Eventide, and he took a look at my Hyrule picture - not sure why it was so far though.

Is it true you can get
the Master Sword
with fewer hearts by having more memories unlocked?

If so, what is the breakdown of how many you need?

Is this the
northeast
island? Any general tips on how to get to that part? I thought I completed it, getting the shrine and all, but it seems like there is a serious additional challenge I'm missing.

After you finish the shrine, just drop down into the pit where the updraft is coming from.

If you're on horseback and holding a spear or halberd, hold the attack button for a special badass animation where you are twirling it overhead, ready to attack

You can cut legs off guardians and if you tip them over they instantly die
Legitimately feel sorry for anyone who didn't know this but may explain why I saw people saying their hard to beat because in my experience they're really easy to beat, just stun them with a arrow to the eye, chop of a few legs with a broadsword, run away, repeat.

Oh, something I found out last night, I haven't seen it here yet: Wherever you leave your horse in the game, you can have any stable bring it back in an instant! :)

Not sure...that's why I'm asking. Saw it on another forum, but no one had confirmed it. Normally I wouldn't give it a second thought but this game has so many secrets that it wouldn't surprise me.

Edit: Here's where I read it (5th post): https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/189707-the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild/75062418
Unless that's a hard toggle, I'm saying no. I had all but four memories and it still took 13 for me.

(Also, good luck getting to the memory inside the castle without the Master Sword. Sheesh.)

You can ride Bears, deer, and other wild life.
I hear you can tame Wolves and dogs (and that you can pet them) but I haven't figured out how

It was quite the surprise when I was having trouble taming wild horses then I accidentally hopped on a bear while exploring the woods and rode it around. Almost got the stable guy to accept it.

Wrong thread? lol

Yeah thats one of the worst parts of the game.

Since we're in this thread, I found out afterwards that you can use your kinesis to pick up boxes and destroy the stupid drones.
