I liked that night time jungle stage.

Unfortunately SOCOM crybabies hated it because they had to use nightvision or get merc'd. :D

"WAH! WAH! BUT I WANT TO RUN AND THROW GRENADES CHARLOTTE!" :lol

Shadowfalls or whatever? :lol

I hated that map, it was too much of a campfest compared to the other maps. I've never seen soo many draws before in any other map.

Even though that map supported my play style the most, stealth/creep/cap, I still didn't like it. There was always people up on top of that damn waterfall, usually 2 or more, then usually someone in the caves as well. Then people in that back little bunker thing. Always there, and you had to hope your grenades did the work for you because soon as you started climbing up, you got capped at that waterfall in particular. heh.

Well I think it was less about nightvision and more about the almost indefinate need to camp which ended up bringing the momentum of the game to a complete halt.

I remember matches that lasted upwards to two hours on that map alone. It was horrible.

But it still was one of the most beautiful maps i've ever seen.

I loved doing doubles on gb in that map for some reason.

Nope.

Every time that map came up, there was crying about "I can't use night vision" "I can't play when I can't see my character" blah blah. Fucking excuses.

Thus, crybaby SOCOM players don't use nightvision and stay in the dark camping, or camp with nightvision on since they can't walk and chew bubblegum.

Really, one of the best maps in the game and ruined completely by the incompetent fanbase that would rather play grenade rain on Fishhook.

Really, I would be willing to concede if presented with compelling evidence; but every time I played that map I was Buffalo Bill and everybody else was Jodie Foster. :p

I just loved watching them run toward me in the dark and blasting their face off; then shooting the asshole they were running from. :D

NIGHTVISION FTW!

I still cant decide between this and MGO, but I guess since MGO comes with MGS4, at least I will get to try that one.

Well I kind of have to agree with Sol on this one, It was more about camping than nightvision, granted nightvision was a cause no doubt, camping was the main culprit here. Just give me my HK5SD and I was set ;) I remember going 102 and 5 in a respawn with that beauty of a gun. :lol

My only strong hatred was Chain Reaction, SF over that ANY day.
You FAIL.

Chain Reaction was an awesome map. Easily one of my favourites. It seemed people either hated it or loved it.

And concerning Shadow Falls, it would have been a great map if it was objective-based. Demolition, Escort, or Extraction all would have given a purpose to the map, preventing people from camping in random bushes. The problem was it was too damn big for just a suppression map.

It's a chicken or egg debate.

I'm saying they camped because they couldn't use nightvision, or possibly couldn't use it while moving.

And adding objectives to the Map would have made it even more loltastic. I could just imagine the whining and gnashing of teeth as people stumbled around in the dark attempting to escort captives. :lol

Fair enough, I loved stuff like Sandstorm and Deathtrap when most people hated those. Course we never got choices cause of random maps but oh well.

Yeah I see what your saying, hence why I added the night vision was definitely a cause part.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Death Trap. I don't think people ever really hated it, they just seem to completely forget it exists for some reason. It's an incredibly designed map and I've had so many amazing games on it.

Sandstorm I'm not huge on but I know a lot of people liked it.

There was some good SOCOM footage in the euro PSN trailer. Though that's probably old to you guys. :(
Ya it's old footage (1up Show footage from a couple weeks ago) but its the first time we've seen in in HD.

Which reminds me I should have mentioned earlier. If you want to see that footage in HD, there are some clips in the PSN video here.

Oh and one more, I wasnt to fond of Blood Lake, I always got hated on horribly for that :lol
I'm not a big fan of it either.

But looking back on all the maps, its really hard for me to hate any of them. Even my least favourite SOCOM 1/2 maps are still a level above the vast majority of shooters I've experienced.

Agreed, the only thing I can think of that comes even close to my love for S1/2 maps is some BF2 maps like Karkand.

How does everyone like their chances of getting into the closed beta?

I thought, being as I've been apart of the last two betas, that I would be in, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't think I'm spamming the boards on the PS site enough, as that looks like the best way to get invited.

The board is so full of nonsense that it's hard to really have a decent conversation about the game. So many repeat threads asking and covering the same topics over and over and.........

Rat's Nest - Supp.
Desert Glory - Extraction
Ruins - Demo.
Deathtrap - Extract
Blood Lake - Extract
Night Stalker - Demo.
and that lag fest map, ill get back to you on that one
*EDIT* Bitter Fucking Jungle - Demo.

Socom 2:

Crossroads - Demolition
Requiem - Demo.
Guidance - Escort
Chain Reaction - Suppression
Sandstorm - Breach
Enowapi - Breach
Sujo - Breach
Vigilance - Supp.
Mixer - Escort
Foxhunt - Escort

Then came the 3 maps that were DLC.
I forget the names of those

Oh man, Foxhunt, put the VIPs on the right side towards the back of the first hill, defend, game. set. match. :lol

On a side note, Mixer, highly underrated. Loved it.

Mixer is down right my favorite map in design. So many nice places you can gain advantage of if you look closely.

It was a race to that damn waterfall everytime. Mine it up, get off to the side to avoid grenades, spot someone climbing up, shoot them in the face before they can even shoot back. That map was the worst designed map for suppression ever. Probably my least favorite map ever in a SOCOM.

Anyways... Let's talk about something else not yet shown, but very important: Victory Dances! I hope they get some really cool things in there, and a vastly larger selection of them. OOOOoooh, plus allow your character to select which dances you prefer to do!

Nahhhhh. random dances were so much fun :). Especially during the countdown to the next round, trying to get that "skip-to-my-lu" to activate. Was fun :p

Some new stuff here I believe.

Hmm visually it looks a little disapointing, but it'll be great if the classic gameplay is there and the framerate is fluid.

Are all the maps going to feature a similar visual theme or are they going to give us some actual variety with these? I'd like to see many different locations, environments, and weather types like the previous Socom games had.

Or are they planning to release theme map packs for DLC?

Everthing else looks good enough for me; but, they GOTTA fix those fucking faces. There's no reason the faces should look like crap.

Have any questions that need answering?

Assuming you're a Playstation.com member, simply go here and post a question (1 question per post). Abigale will send them off and get them answered by either Slant Six or SCE. Just make sure you read through the thread before posting your question to ensure it hasn't been asked yet.

game is astonishingly ugly

Well, they do have a tradition to uphold. *rimshot*

As long as they nail down a smooth framerate I'll be happy. For SOCOMers that would be something of a biblical revelation. I can't believe how choppy it looked in the 1UP vid though. Hope Slant 6 isn't on too short of a leash with this thing...

And what in Jesusbumblefuck has Zipper been up to?

New IGN interview. Definitely worth checking out.

Confirmed:
- 4 original maps
- 3 classic maps (making it 7 maps total)
- 5 of the maps will work with up to 32 players
- 2 of the maps will work with 16 players max (hopefully the 2 additional classic maps)
- Maps designed to work with all modes
- Night/Day on all maps

As well as other stuff I'm sure I forget. But thats why you need to read through the interview!

Lets start a Pool on what the classic maps are going to be.

I'm going with Desert Glory for at least one. Because I know two are going to be 8 and 16 only and all maps are African themed. I'm sure that at least one of those two are going to be classic just for the sake of appeasing the fans. The only two that are small enough and not really elaboratable (is that even a word? lol) are Desert Glory and Night Stalker. Desert Glory is the more popular map.

Even though they have to be North African themed, that doesn't prevent them from turning any of the classic maps into a North African themed one.

And just take a look at Urban Warfare (the only new map they've shown so far). It's a completely different look than Crossroads. So even though they are both North African themed, I think they want to offer as much variety in that as possible.
