What's up with all the Fallout hate? See a lot of people posting stuff like this here. I didn't particularly love the game myself, but the way people are talking about it makes it seem like Bethesda killed their favourite pet or something

It's not a matter of hate. Fallout 4 is a fun game. But it's just another janky fest of a game with its RPGs elements dumbed down even more compared to previous bethesda titles.

It's not a bad game. It's just a mediocre one that doesn't deserve a GOTY.

I applaud their hard work!!!

Good vibes from me to you!

LOL love too think of art as a battle with only winners/losers!!! Not myopic at all!!!

Same tiresome hyperbole. Of course its some dude with a BB avatar

It's tiresome but true, saying it's atrocious is a bit of a hyperbole but it is certainly below par, especially compared to some of the newer games standards (i.e. MGS and BB which are just on a whole other level). Although don't get me wrong Witcher 3 is still a great game obviously.

Geralt looks incredibly badass here. Shiet.

Yeah I think this render is taken from the CGI they did for Night to Remember. Badass motherfucker.

Tongue in cheek, don't take it so seriously.
Every reasonable gamer knows all 5 games are great..some (Witcher, Bloodborne) are just more great than others (Fallout, MGS) :)

I'm curious what issues people have with the combat. I've finally been able to get to the game this weekend and ended up putting in about 15 hours on B&BB difficulty, and I'm really enjoying the combat. It was a little difficult at first before I really got used to all my options, but now it's just "good hard" or whatever. I'll lose a fight horribly once or twice because of one or two bad moves, reload and barely take damage the next time because I just play it out better. Mostly it's been learning to be more selectively aggressive especially when it's a new monster with skills I don't yet know.

Does it break down later in the game? Or is it just something that's apparently more to my liking than most?

I really liked the Witcher 3 alot and was a deserving game, congrats.

However, so far after playing Xenoblade Chronicles X I feel already that X should have been at least nominated, but it was released in December....so what happens to amazing games released at the end of the year? Are they considered for 2016 awards?

And degraded in a lot of other areas. Fallout 4 definitely is a zero sum game in many aspects with respect to NV and even FO3.

Also I'm not sure if you've played the other witcher games if you think that combat is the same...

It's true that the combat is better than past witcher games but it's still really basic and offers almost no real freedom in combat when compared to fallout in general.

It's just very simplistic and ultimately boring in such a huge game . Give it 20 more hours and you will see you are basically fighting the same enemies over and over. Each has a simply strategy to use to beat them so it is purely repetition. Difficulty is a mess cause you level up so fast due to all the side quests so I was overpowered even on the hardest difficulty. It's just a very stiff, basic combat system. To me one step above Zelda combat.

If I really, really hated The Witcher 2's first 4 hours enough that I stopped playing it because the dialogue was a corny grimdark shitshow with geeky 'erotic' interludes that looked like fanfic porn, is there any chance I'll like Witcher 3?

It's an honest question.

What the fuck..."corny grimdark shitshow fanfic porn"

I want to say give TW3 a chance, but then it starts in a tub with Geralt scratching his feet, so for you it will probably be just some more "fanfic porn" I guess

(seriously though, what the fuck)

haha that pic is great, im going to use it in my goty post

Hey that was my idea!

People who seem to hate it always hide behind BB or souls like no other game exist beside from games. Combat is fun imo and it might get repetitive in the main game, but it reach its peak in the dlc.

Yeah, a chance. The tone is lighter and the writing is smarter overall, but if you're not a fan of Geralt's sardonicism (which has always been aimed at the shitshow) and can't tolerate his VA, you'll probably get sick of it before the ending.

Combat is fun. Simulates the experience of being a Witcher pretty well and can be almost dance-like when you get into a rhythm. Make sure to use your full set of tools instead of just slash/dodge and you'll enjoy it just fine.

That's really why I enjoy it. When I'm playing well is when I'm in a weird, Geometry Wars-like zen. Then it really does feel like a dance and Geralt is basically a Jedi. Feels extra amazing when you're parrying arrows at the same time.

Yeah, my issue with what I played from TW2 is not about the VA or Geralt's sardonicism, but just the overall "let's make everything edgy and dark" attitude that seemed to be used in everything (dialogue, sidequests, themes) to please teenagers looking for "mature" stuff.

If anyone asked me, from the games I tried, which game I'd feel ashamed to show to a non-gamer, the first hours of TW2 would be my pick.

It's unfortunate, cause the universe just LOOKED incredible, and I used to be a big fan of Western RPGs (BG, BG2, etc.).

This is just ridiculous. The universe is dark, but with a lot of heart and humour. It is not "edgy" in any negative sense of the word. It is based on books that were written in eighties and nineties by a polish writer born under communism. Your accusations are...well yeah, ridiculous. I suggest to play further.

Still WTF.

You clearly didn't pay attention to the game.

Why bother, he is only wasting his time.

I really hated The Witcher 2 as well, but that was mainly because I felt like it was a chore to play. I admit, the combat in The Witcher 3 isn't that great, but it's perfectly serviceable and, yes, the story -specifically the side quests- is extremely well crafted. If The Witcher 3 isn't the GOTY, it certainly is the RPG of the year. Fallout 4 is fun and all, but it's more of the same whereas The Witcher 3 is a huge step forward.

Well deserved. An absolute juggernaut and loved every minute of it and finished almost every single thing there was to do in that game.

Combat shines brighter on the highest difficulty, which, oddly enough once you master, the game get's really easy.
