Media Create Sales: Week 2, 2016 (Jan 11 - Jan 17)

01./00. [PS3] Yakuza 0 <ADV> (Sega) {2015.03.12} (¥8.845) - 145.823 / NEW
02./00. [PS4] Yakuza 0 <ADV> (Sega) {2015.03.12} (¥8.845) - 90.506 / NEW

Given that this is technically the 3rd rerelease of this game (Yakuza 1, Yakuza 1 HD, Yakuza Kiwami) I think expecting an even bigger drop than 0 is reasonable.

Of course, you may also get the reverse as this is a great entry point for people interested in the series.

6 needs to refresh the series even more than 5 did, franchise fatigue warning signs popping up.

you compared a brand new title with a game already released on PS2, WiiU and PS3
if a prequel sold less than 250k on FW I really don't understand how the fourth release can sell 200k combined...

[PS4] PlayStation 4 Dragon Quest Builders Edition Jet Black <H-W> (Sony Computer Entertainment) (¥37.480)
[PS4] PlayStation 4 Dragon Quest Builders Edition Glacier White <H-W> (Sony Computer Entertainment) (¥37.480)
Does these Editions come with the game? If yes those are pretty nice prices. Only 2.5k added to the base price of PS4.

A little late to the party, busy day at work to really collate my thoughts.

Hiska was definitely right that my potential optimism was misplaced but I am surprised to see the PS4 slipping down to 25k (still expected less of a slide since I was expecting good performance from Odin) with new advertised releases and still a holiday day part of the week. But this may well match up with my expectation of the ~20k baseline. (Also PS3 sales have almost all, plus a few couple thousand, shifted into the PS4 if you add up this week and this week last year.) (Perhaps, though, the audience for smaller RPGs like Odin sphere has already long since transitioned, but then I wonder what that means even for big RPGs and if we won't see smaller than expected movements from an already (gradually) moved audience. We talk about jRPGs as the big thing but, then, there's diminishing returns there at some point. Also Vita certainly doesn't help.)

3DS held surprisingly well considering no releases and no N3DS from last year.

WiiU sliding but already well over non-Splatoon last year. I expect it to keep going down, though (to around 12k?, unless NX news pops out soon whether by volition or if the crazy internet rumors force Nintendo's hand), for much the same reasons noted with the PS4 sans anything but MT until March(?).

PS3 is dead.

PS3 is pretty dead. This isn't a good sign for games like SO5.

Or Persona 5.

Sony saw this coming, which is why they stepped in to help Atlus design a PS4 version for it. Not to mention that SO 5 is coming to PS4 as well.

The PS3 dying is good news for Japan. It would be far worse if it just kept hanging on.

You said it, the console is 9 years old now. It's time to put it out to pasture.

Yakuza Kiwami (PS4) already sold out on Amazon? Restock on 24th.
Rakuten is not having that stock problem, so maybe it could be something related to the copies Amazon picked. Yakuza Kiwami PS4 has been for days on the Rakuten daily charts so I think a first day sellthrough gonna be high but not to the point of running out copies.

I wonder if not from some of the big bombas we've had recently. May not want to get straddled with heavy stock.
That's really possible, and it's not only recent games that Amazon had to slash price of bomba games heavily to empty the warehouse.

Well Kiwami is essentially just a remake/remaster of PS2 game (which already got the remaster once so it's second time they're re-releasing original Yakuza). I won't expect it to sell that much.

I'm interested on the drop for Odin Sphere, maybe it'll be similar to Steins;Gate 0, all versions combined sell 100k on the first week, and all are out of the chart on the second.

Also.

Limted edition SFV themed PS4's, on typical LE PS4 fashion it doesn't come with the game.

Indeed I've been seeing a lot of discounts across their catalog of games from straddled stock. Its just that recently it became a lot more noticeable from things like Gundam.

Yeah, me neither (at least on PS3) and I'm just pointing out that that's why it would probably have a big first day, but wouldn't last much a la Steins;Gate and maybe Odin Sphere as Okami said.

The Dreamcast is 17 years old. If people want to play it on the console, more power to them.

I just want publishers (especially Japanese 3rd party publishers) to give PS4 more focus & to do away with cross-gen games of PS3 & PS4. That's been going on during the past two years already.

Gameplay footage for Puzzle & Dragons X. Coming out this year, but no date yet. Will be playable at World Hobby Fair (starts this week-end).

My money is this another Golden Week title (so release date around April 22nd?).

It says Yakuza zero has sold 100K at Asian market alone, and as for Yakuza Kiwami SEGA is already receiving shipment order from that region in twofold. I guess Sony's strategy of diversifying is really paying off (Asian market seems like covering declining Japanese market, to some extent at least).

Sorry to double post, but different topic here.

There will be an Xbox One The Division bundle on March 10, same day the game is coming out. 1tb, 44.980 yen without taxes.

They'll also be doing an Xbox Live Gold membership thing for three months.

According to Famitsu the bundle will be limited (of course) and will be sold in less than handful of retailers, that's including amazon and Microsoft's own store.

I think FFXV will do extremely well in Asian markets. Square seem to be banking on it.

Fun fact, Splatoon was the 4th best-selling game in France in 2015, with over 300k units sold.

It was also #4 in Famitsu's Top 100 for 2015. Coincidence? I think not.

Yeah, well, obviously it is, doh.

I don't know whether to be more impressed by Happy Home Designer charting anywhere but Japan or by Mario Kart 7 proving to be The Eternal even more than it is in Japan. Probably the latter, as France (and Europe in general) always seemed to like these simulation-esque games more than the US.

Why are there so many dislikes on that video?

I... honestly have no idea. There's no comments (and they're not disabled), so hard to say. It's not the kind of game to have vocal fanboys downvoting stuff and giving crap reviews on Amazon either. The game itself looks pretty good.

So yeah, got absolutely no clue.

Comments are probably waiting for approval.

And you could throw the link on Twitter and Google Translate some of the tweets, if you want.

The publishers doing PS3/PS4 will instead opt to do PSV/PS4.

Meant to reply to this earlier but didn't: that will be very case by case and publisher by publisher. Yakuza isn't trading in PS3 for Vita, even though the latter probably makes more sense for a project like Kiwami. Atlus will probably never make another game on Vita themselves. Ditto for Capcom. Tales seems done on handhelds in general, and I kind of doubt the SRW OG team will do a Vita version of OG3. Some of those are definitely tech related, while others not so much.

Don't think so, I just posted (and deleted) a comment, and it appeared instantly (without a "comment waiting for approval").

Oh well, not that it really matters anyway.
