Repeating my post:

So, using 2012 Q1 weekly sales from Nintendo, the info where they said the European market decreased 29% in 2013 Q1, and the market share, I find these numbers for European sales estimated by Nintendo for Jan, Feb and Mar:

Code:
	 2013Q1 2012Q1
PS3	814,000 950,000
360	585,000 698,000
3DS	474,000 595,000
PSP	290,000 375,000
WII	222,000 581,000
PSV	145,000 394,000
WIU	122,000
NDS 38,000 196,500

But take these with a pile of salt.

If anyone would like to do the same Math and see if the results are similar. =P

Is it me, or did the DS hardware share go up in 2013? Because at the rate this is going, the 3DS' biggest threat is the DS, not mobile phones.

The most immediate things I notice is that the PSP is for some reason still kicking along respectably and that Nintendos overall marketshare went way down.

Do you have last year for comparison?

PSP Street for 99€ and probably even cheaper/with bundled game in some places. Dunno why they never released it outside of EU. Pretty crazy that they discontinued PSPGO in EU but not in the US.

Woah did not know PSP was selling so well in Europe.

PSP/Wii/Wii U are battling to stay out of last place for systems that are not discontinued.

Come on 360, take over the rest of EU.

LOL, would be painful next gen when SONY comes up with the slogan "console war over in europe" months after ps4's release

PS3 has outsold x360 by a comfortable margin in europe and with ps4 that lead will only get bigger

C'mon now man. Little too early for this when the other console is not even announced :).

Tho if the always online rumors are correct then yes, Durango will be left to dust in europe since the services they have to offer will most likely be of little interest for EU folk. MS seems to be aiming for US entertainment market rather than global gaming market.

Did Nintendo say the hardware market decreased 29% or the market?

The English translation is sort of confusing:

As for the market size, the number of hardware units sold this year showed a 1% increase in the Japanese market compared to the same period last year, while the shares in the U.S and European markets dropped by about 25% and 29% respectively, showing no momentum in the market.

I don't think that word "shares" exists in the original Japanese:

市場規模全体は、日本はハードの販売台数が前年対比で1%プラスですが、アメリカは約25%減少、ヨーロッパは約29%減少と、足下の市場全体の勢いがありません

Anyway, we don't know for sure if they're talking about their own estimations about the European sales, or even if the 2012 sales are still the same they presented last year.

Road you need a SALES_AGE Tag. This is great deduction.

The US is always the slowest to give up a Nintendo handheld and move on to the next one.

Probably worth adding to the OP.

Adding the 120K estimate to the 430K estimate we had for the launch quarter puts the Wii U's European installed base at 550K for the first 4 months, or roughly 50K less than the PS3's one week of sales in March 2007, with about 370K in the channel.

It also puts weekly sales at around 8-9K for the region.

If these numbers do indeed check out, then the Vita managed to outsell the Wii U worldwide last quarter.

which isn't surprising considering how poorly the console is doing worldwide.

sony seems to be holding it down in euro-land.
they seem to have solid foundations there. even during the wii years. wonder what they do differently from microsoft & nintendo that makes them so appealing there?

Huh, even knowing the 3DS was starting to do well, I'm surprised. 20% of the US market in an era where everyone things dedicated handhelds are dead?

Man I did not know the PS3 was doing so well in Europe. 3DS sales nearly half of PS3? I thought they would be equal and PS3 300 000 sales more than 360 already. Anyone know the difference in NPD from 360 to 0s3. I'm guessing its 200k for the three months.

I'm thoroughly impressed with the 360's hw performance in the UK, and by extension sw. It's been steadfastly cockblocking the PS3 on a consistent basis, so it's clearly no sony land.

English speaking. Easy to interact with the largest market who is also English speaking.

From what I gather, the Xbox division kind of only gives a shit about English-speaking countries, or possible even just the US, and the UK just happens to speak the same language so it's not hard for them to actually make XBL worthwhile in that territory as well.

UK isn't Sony land, but those numbers don't paint a picture of it being Xbox land either.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
European market share would improve so much with better UK sales.
...And maybe that's finally happening. I mean, Luigi is showing great strength so far, 5th / 7th in UK top 10, and Fire Emblem debuted 3rd and it increased 3DS sales as reported. Moreover, I know Amazon isn't the greatest indication of all time, but looking at it it seems both FE and Luigi are still in top 10, and Lego is approaching it pretty fast.

The PS3 has been the leading console in AU for the last couple years so its not equivalent in every english market.

Microsofts grasp on the UK/US and Sonys lead in mainland EU are often exaggerated TBH.

Obviously they go into next-gen in better or worse positions but it makes me laugh when people say MS can't take Europe or Sony can't take America. Its not a Japan like situation where its a massive blowout and a lost cause. They aren't that far apart month to month.
