Race will be interesting. No way Mercedes hold on to the lead in that heat. Grosjean needs a good start, he is on the clean side and doesn't usually have a particularly bad launch. Plus there isn't much around to hit.

Nice to see Hamilton on pole after Red Bull being in full-on smug mode this weekend, but I think we all know what to expect for the race.

Only other point of interest of qualifying was how badly the BBC handled the Sauber story in their highlights.

He failed the floor deflection test due to kerb damage it appears at Turn 11.

If Ferrari do not give him a season winning car next year, damn. Who would have thought Alonso would go without a championship at Ferrari. Wasting his best years.

Man, I hope they fixed whatever's wrong with Webber's car. At this point it's beyond a fucking joke. If it's due to his build, how could they have not figured that out already? Third luckless season where he's been plagued by reliability issues (compared to his teammate) and it's still causing grief. SMH.

Like I said earlier, all this shit happening makes me glad he's getting out.

If Merc ever figure out how to conserve the tires, they're gonna be a menace. That car is quick. Lewis with another brilliant lap. I feel good about the prospect for next year's car. I just want to see Lewis continue to improve his comfort in the car and team. He's gotta be feeling really confident given his latest stretch of races compared to Nico, and given how bad McLaren has been. He'd be in the championship hunt if not for some misfortune. Good stuff. Hopefully he can bag a win tomorrow. PEACE.

We don't need tyres that are this shit. I've been saying this since 2010, we needed tyres that were at the minimum half as durable as the Bridgestone's, but instead we got tyres that couldn't even dream of being as durable as those.

The tyres don't make it interesting. DRS makes it interesting. Shitty tyres in combination with DRS is overkill. One or the other please, and DRS is the much better option.

This would go counter to what the FIA wanted in the first place. The speed of the cars are governed most by tires, since that's the only element that degrades. The tire wars lead to better and better tires, which increased cornering speeds. There's no way for the FIA to control the tires if there's a tire war, and so we'd end up seeing lap times drop severely. I don't think this is the going to be the case. The FIA wants to reduce speeds for safety.

Of course, maybe the speed on those V6s will be low enough that the FIA thinks they can move away from the control tire. I don't mind that, but the control tire has resulted in some of the best on-track action that we've ever seen. I don't know if I'm ready to part with that. PEACE.

Just hoping the racing behind P1 tomorrow is interesting, that or something causes Vettel to lose a bunch of time so he isn't just leading from T1 until the end.

Formula One: Mark Webber slams Red Bull for 'stupid' car problems after KERS failure in Hungary

Mark Webber slammed his Red Bull team on Sunday morning after suffering what he called ongoing 'stupid and embarrassing' problems with his car in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

While his Red Bull team-mate defending triple world champion Sebastian Vettel was beaten to pole by a sizzling lap from Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes, Webber was giving vent to his frustration.

Electronic problems once again played havoc with his efforts and prevented his car's KERS from working and upset the car's gearshift system.

Webber battled the problems and made his way through the first two parts of qualifying, but did not run in the top-ten shootout and qualified 10th.

He said: "KERS, gearbox, you name it... driving the car so far off the potential is unbelievable and so massively frustrating.

"It's stupid, it's embarrassing and it's a brutal circuit to be out of position.

"We should be challenging for the front row and we're bloody 10th. So ... a pain in the arse.

"It's amazing... all the effort you go to - and it's two weekends on the bounce where you get that."

Webber is widely regarded as the unluckiest man in the pit-lane by paddock regulars after suffering a series of car problems.

The Australian said he now feared he will struggle to improve on 10th in the 70-lap race at a circuit where overtaking is almost as difficult to achieve as it is in Monte Carlo at the Monaco Grand Prix.

"The team have got to get the car operating at the limit tomorrow," he said.

"It's a long race and things need to be functioning correctly. KERS was 50 per cent (of the problem) and there were other things.

"So we managed to tick nearly every bloody box in qualifying and made it hard.

"Hopefully we'll get that sorted for tomorrow, but it's going to be hard to get the result we should do."

Webber's difficulties appear to have intensified since he announced at the British Grand Prix that he will retire from Formula One at the end of this year to go sportscar racing with Porsche.

Could not disagree more. DRS makes me yawn, the tyres are the same for everyone, and don't do anything one way or the other to my interest.

Lotus and Ferrari are looking to use the new tires to their advantage. Will these teams be able to beat RBR or will they be crowned the constructor champions once again. 2012 Race Summary

At the end of the formation lap, Michael Schumacher stopped in the 19th place grid position, instead of 17th where he had qualified. Yellow lights were flashed as a result, with the intention of waving the cars through for a second formation lap. However, Schumacher switched his car off believing that the race was being delayed. The cars were waved through for the second formation lap, and Schumacher had to be pushed into the pits for his car to be restarted. Once his car was restarted, he failed to activate the pit speed limiter and exceeded the pit speed limit while driving to the end of the pits for the start of the race.

At the start of the race, Sebastian Vettel attempted to pass Roman Grosjean in turn one, but was blocked. The loss of momentum allowed Jenson Button to pull alongside Vettel through turn two and then pass him in turn three. Mark Webber, starting on medium compound tires, made a great start to jump from 11th to 7th by turn two. Pastor Maldonado made a poor start and fell from 8th to 12th position.

Schumacher pitted on lap two to switch to medium compound tires. He then served a drive-though penalty on lap five for speeding in the pit lane at the start. Kimi Räikkönen initially had no KERS and was stuck behind Fernando Alonso. Roman Grosjean began to catch up with Lewis Hamilton towards the end of the first stint. Hamilton pitted first on lap 19, taking a second longer than normal due to a wheel gun problem, but Grosjean's pit stop on the next lap was even slower, leaving the running order the same.

Roman Grosjean was finally able to catch Lewis Hamilton on lap 24, only to lose time due to mistakes, and then catch up again by lap 30. Kimi Räikkönen's KERS had recovered by this point, allowing him to make up ground. Jenson Button pitted from 3rd position on lap 35 and got stuck behind Bruno Senna, who was up to 7th running a long stint. Button was unable to pass Senna until Senna pitted on lap 43. This allowed Sebastian Vettel to come out ahead of Button when he pitted on lap 39.

Kimi Räikkönen began turning out blistering lap times in clear air. He pitted for the second time on lap 46, and came out of the pits alongside his teammate Roman Grosjean. Räikkönen pushed Grosjean to the edge of the track in turn 1, Grosjean ran wide, and Räikkönen took second place. Räikkönen then began to reel in Lewis Hamilton, but was unable to pass. Pastor Maldonado slid into the side of Paul di Resta on lap 48, earning Maldonado a drive-through penalty.

In the closing laps of the race, Red Bull pitted both of their drivers. Mark Webber fell from fifth to eighth, where he remained until the end of the race. Sebastian Vettel remained in fourth, and by the last lap was able to catch back up to Roman Grosjean on fresher tires, but was unable to pass. Narain Karthikeyan pulled off the track and retired on lap 65 due to suspension damage. The final lap of the race was on lap 69 instead of 70 due to the extra formation lap.

GP Facts

-Michael Schumacher has won the race more times than any other driver, with four victories to his credit. Ayrton Senna is next on the list with three wins, a total matched by current Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton.

-The Hungaroring was the scene of Fernando Alonso’s first grand prix win, in 2003. At the time, it made the Spaniard F1’s youngest winner, at 22 years and 26 days. Sebastian Vettel beat his record five years later. The German was just 21 years and 73 days old when he won the 2008 Italian GP for Toro Rosso.

-Jenson Button’s march to his first win from 14th on grid at the rain-hit 2006 race represents the biggest climb from starting position to top step of the podium. Button is followed in that regard by Nigel Mansell, who scored victory from 12th on the grid in 1989. The two Britons are the only drivers in the history of the race to win from beyond the first two rows of the grid.

-The F1 Drivers’ Championship has twice been won at the Hungaroring. Mansell, driving for Williams, won the 1992 championship at the Hungarian GP, the 11th race of a 16-race season, while Michael Schumacher won his fourth world title here in 2001 at the 13th race of a 17-race season.

-Despite the Hungaroring being a tough track on which to overtake, pole position isn’t crucial. Since 2005, the man starting at the front has won just twice – Hamilton, in ’07 and ’12.

I can't think of another *good* driver in recent history that has gone through so much shit. Or maybe there's been heaps and I'm just a little too one-eyed ;)

You're too generous with Hamilton at 3rd. He'll drop down the pack due to the Merc roasting the rear tires, especially how hot the race will be today.

Webbers KERS will fail again, and a pit crew member will jam his gun for the 3884382882838393th time.

Potential for Hungarian GP to be fascinating. One team's simulation last night had Webber winning from 10th, by starting on prime tyres https://twitter.com/andrewbensonf1/status/361413650910691328
It would be great to see but it relies on him making a good clean start of the line.

Going to be 38F for ther race, pure hell for the drivers and the cars. We could see KERS and other failures from the cars during the tough 70 lap race.

They got it working?!?

Probably because the 'reporter' just looked at the grid positions, did a voice over, and the editor put it over some footage (more than likely Ricciardo)
