By the time the game comes out is it possible for this threat to reach 1000 pages?

Has that ever happened before here?

I mean seriously, Smash is amazing, spectacular, etcetera, but I think 1000 pages is a pretty good goal >.>

The enemies in Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The Subspace Emissary are called the Subspace Army!

Right now, I’d like to introduce some of the more powerful ones.

ROADER

modea06_070919a-l.jpg

This enemy looks like a motorised unicycle. These guys ride around in groups, and are both fast and powerful.

POPPANT

modea06_070919b-l.jpg

Their bucket trousers are filled with presents and sweets. If you approach these cowards, they’ll flee.

BYTAN

modea06_070919c-l.jpg

Leave these enemies be and they’ll multiply in a flash. Destroy them before they become too much trouble!

TROWLON

modea06_070919d-l.jpg

This creature will use its trowel-like arms to lift characters up and fly off with them.

SHAYDAS

modea06_070919e-l.jpg

This unpleasant, fog-like enemy has a weak spot at the core of its chest!

AUROROS

modea06_070919f-l.jpg

This bird dives from above, piercing the ground. You can pull out any Auroros that sticks itself into the ground.

GREAP

modea06_070919g-l.jpg

It’s HUGE! It attacks by swinging two sickles down upon you. Its red head is its weak spot.

The R.O.B. Squad

modea06_070919h-l.jpg

The escort the Ancient Minister brings with him is an R.O.B squad?! There are some that fire beams and others that fire missiles.

There are other enemies that will appear and try to impede your progress. Good luck! Don’t lose! And don’t run away!

O_O

The enemies don't matter so much, but LOOK AT THE NEW SCENARIOS !!!!!! Just WOW.

These enemies are awesome. Such a huge variety. It would've been so easy for them to just take classic enemies from the Nintendo games and "evilfy" them as if they'd been taken over by the Subspace Army, but instead they give us these demented assassins to toy with. Eeeeeeeeeexcellent.

So true. I guess they really wanted to differentiate the adventure mode in Brawl from the one in Melee, since Melee used "old" enemies from everyone's game. Not to say that that wasn't cool, but brand new enemies to fight just seems that much better.

They’re still including “classic” enemies though, as along with the R.O.B. Squad, the first batch of Subspace Emissary screens showed off Hammer Bros., Bullet Bills & a batch of Meta Knight-esque enemies. Love the new creatures, though, and this mode looks more fucking awesome by the update.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
Holy shit Sakurai, what else have you packed in this? The fanservice checklist is getting severely heavy, at this rate it'll be on 2 discs!

What's even move amazing is that there will still be a few megatons left to suprise us when the game is actually released, but by that time occurs, whats going to be left to suprise us? I can't wait.

Golden Hammer

Well, we won't know about most of the unlockable stages, as well as the hidden characters except for Snake. I'll guess we'll get to know the other 3rd party characters that are in the game... not on the dojo site, but through Famitsu or somesuch.

Maybe he'll keep another gamemode hidden from us as well (Event mode or something) :)

The fanservice this game provides is off the hook, though, I agree. :D

I'm all for artistic vision or whatever the fuck, but Greap has got to be the most preposterous combatant design ever.

Why does Pit look so badass in this picture?

And, yeah, pretty much every background in these shots look new.

Probably because he's running "AT" a friggin living GUILLOTINE!

Only bad asses such as himself would attempt such things. :p

Those are some pretty cool enemies. I look forward to destroying legions of them when the game is released.

The Roader enemy looks a lot like the Wheelie partner from Kirby Super Star.

Some of these enemies remind me of Kingdom Hearts (which isn't a bad thing at all, I'm actually a huge fan).

Two awesome updates and one.. pretty good one! Is that it for this week?! Let's hope not!

djtiesto

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Nice update, I wasn't expecting much at all, truthfully, after yesterday's megaton. But the Subspace Emissary looks already much more fleshed out than the Adventure Mode in Melee. I hope there are a few classic enemies, having a mixture of new + nostalgia = the win in these games.

Strap on your hooker ...
The only thing that bothers be here is that these enemies are all over the map style-wise. You've got this awesome metalpunk unicycle, then you have this scythe thing that uses very basic shapes and doesn't look very functional, then you have a 2-headed shadow monster with ancient-styled blades for arms. 'Army' seems a bit of a misnomer, as armies tend to have some sort of thematic tie between their soldiers. These guys look completely unaffiliated with one another stylistically.

I guess it makes sense if they were all gathered from different worlds, which may in fact be the case.

I had only doubts about wether or not you could play with 4 players worldwide. I was seriously expecting 1vs1 and am still amazed that they actually pulled off 4 player real-time online smash bros brawling with final smashes and everything.
Well they didnt pull it off perfectly. Sakurai said that there will be some lag when you play with people over long distances. It doesnt bother me that much though, atleast we've got an online mode!

It makes sense why the Subspace Emissary would be crashing in on the Smash Bros. party - he's looking for more fighters to add to his army.

I love the design of the enemies, but I see where you are coming from, perhaps as more enemies are revealed a clear theme will be more apparent? They do seem a little bit similar with all of the enemies sporting small red eyes (I think even the bird has them) and they all have a kind of a metal like feel to them.

I doubt it. We're only at 404.

But we still have a few more months to go!

As excitement builds, and assuming there are some "megaton" announcements, I think GAF could do it!

As long as all posts are tasteful and to the point and not off-topic like the one i am making now.... errr

Sorry!

I have a bit of a crackpot theory that these enemies we've been shown are "corrupted" versions of some Nintendo enemies. After all, they do bear some resemblance to enemies we've seen in past games.

As I've said, the Roaders look quite a bit like Wheelies from Kirby. And the Bytans resemble Voltorbs/Electrodes from Pokemon. Maybe the Shaydas are Twilight creatures from Twilight Princess? Even the Trowlons look sort of like Heave-Hos from Super Mario 64.

It doesn't work for all of them, but some of the enemies definitely resemble established Nintendo enemies. I'm not sure if this is an intentional decision that will have bearing in the game's story or just a coincidence.

agreed.

I see little to no resemblance to existing enemies.

I can see them going the route of 'corrupted' Nintendo enemies, though. But these are pretty obviously new, imo.

It's funny, I was disappointed this morning because of the lack of nostalgia value with these new enemies. Now that I'm a bit more alert, I can see that this really indicates a lot of extra effort to come up with entirely new concepts rather than figure out ways to incorporate the best of Nintendo's past into one game. I think a hybrid of new and old areas and enemies would be ideal.

I can see them having classic Nintendo enemies being exclusive to the areas based on their respective games (Goombas and Koopa Troopas only in Mario-based levels, Metroids and Space Pirates only in Metroid-based levels...) but having the Subspace Army being universal.
