No offense, but your second paragraph makes little to no sense. Traditional console games have no console in Japan. Home consoles aside from the Wii are all but dead and buried.

And if the Wii doesn't start selling Core games soon handhelds will be the only resort. And that could do a hell of a lot more to stunt visual growth in the Japanese market then the Wii being the console market leader.

I know there is a BluRay version of GT5 Prologue... but it won't give a true indication of the sales because there is also a PSN version.

Well, I guess I should've said I was talking about gaming worldwide. But you are correct. The handhelds are the driving force behind a lot of traditional games in Japan. And while Nintendo has stated that their main priority is to casuals, I don't see Sony taking that route. I'm sure they're going to try and turn things around to the PS1/2 years. The question is, can they? This will be interesting to see.

It outsold it excluding the last 4 days of the month. Still may have outsold it in the calendar month, but since we don't have daily sales breakdowns, we don't know. As it is, Nintendo and Sony can define September differently and both win!

More Famitsu stuff.

Due primarily to Winning Eleven and Final Fantasy XI (Lucky eleven?), PS2/PS3/X360 had a boost in the software pie. This is the first time since Galaxy's release that PS2 is ahead of Wii. Also one of PSP's lower weeks.

DS: 52.4
PS2: 23.7
Wii: 9.5
PS3: 9.2
PSP: 2.8
X360: 2.3
Other: 0.2


Previously I noted that FFT PSP and A2 were following incredibly similar sales patterns. That continued this week.

Not much more than that, and it'll be safe to say it's met GCN. Nintendo only claims 4.02 million shipped, though Media Create's version of the facts says a few hundred thousand more were sold. It still looks far away in my "Wii in terms of..." page, with Wii only matching GCN up to January 13, 2006... but GCN sold jack-all through the rest of 2006.

Actually it was Enterbrain, and by their numbers, PS3 still did.

Famitsu data using NPD's month:

I'm not sure we will see the PS3 make gains on the Wii again anytime soon if ever. I believe the next time Sony puts a price drop on the PS3 that Nintendo WILL counter with one of their own.

There isn't much hype here for it. But it might do ok since it was pretty highly reviewed. Then again R&C surprised me by failing so very hard.

I wonder how RRR2 will do..that game looks like it caters to japanese taste..doesn't explains the first one bombing..lol. Maybe everything has changed?

Aha, but something has changed. They now have RRR t-shirts in Japan! Those will push the game as much as the NMH toilet paper will push NMH though..

Someone explain to me why games do not have a standard MSRP over in Japan? Its actually confusing as to why they're all priced differently.

They do. DS games are usually 4800yen, Wii games are 5800yen and PS3/X360 are 6800yen. All of these exclude tax though, except Nintendo who absorbs the tax part and sells games at these prices.

Don't DQ games launch at an absurd price? I remember DQVIII being 80 dollars or so on launch.

I know this is a couple weeks off, but how does everybody think We Love Golf! and Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon Wii are going to perform?

I mean, they are coming out in the thick of the holiday shopping period in Japan. I believe one of the Chocobo games for PSone in Japan was nearly a million seller, if not one. And as far as the golf game goes, the style seems very similar to Hot Shots and it is made by the same people that did that and Mario Golf. With proper advertising and controls I think this game could sell pretty well with the look.

I think both will sell well but We Love Golf will be more of a hit outside of Japan. Chocobo Dungeon will sell better than We Love Golf.

My first week predictions are..

Chocobo Dungeon- 200k
We Love Golf- 130k

Is that too much?
