Nintendo/DeNA "currently making announcement plans" for their first mobile game

Probably not shocking given we're almost in Fall when the game is supposed to be releasing.

I'm guessing it's a glorified ad for nintendo console property that's also making money through free to play mechanics.
 
So not even an announcement of an announcement, more like we will announce when we have an announcement. So nothing then.
 
Wondering what IP it will be, either Mario or Animal Crossing imho.

Since it's the first one I expect them to lead with something very mass market, so those are pretty safe bets, especially since they're not the ones handling Pokemon on mobile.

I do expect some mid-core titles later, but not until they've made a very wide bet first.
 
Really interested to see their first game. Should give us at least a bit of an
idea of what to expect moving forward.

I think Nintendo has the ability to make great games on any platform.
 
I always thought the genius move would have been to have a separate Mario Maker splintered mode on the WiiU version that allowed people to make "endless runner" levels. Those would then be curated and available to play on a mobile game that doesnt have the Maker aspect to it. Sort of a two birds one stone scenario. Offer up "celeb" made levels for IAP, can only play so many per day, stamina, etc. Bam.

I'm excited! DeNA makes Final Fantasy: The Record Keeper and it's arguably the best mobile game I've ever played. Been playing it non-stop for months now.

The basic gambit around Animal Crossing vs. Mario would be that Animal Crossing is a very big property in Japan, but smaller in the West, so you're probably leading with Japanese heavy results at that point.

However, Nintendo x DeNA is a partnership you'd expect to, at least at the start, have more strength in Japan than abroad, so picking a great fit for that is not a bad option.

They're already trying business model experiments with Animal Crossing as well so it might be hinting at this.

Aren't endless runner games procedurally generated so creating an endless runner stage is something that's not exactly feasible.

Pokémon has games on mobile already and isn't handled by Nintendo. Nintendo/DeNA's collab will have nothing to do with mobile.

Phones tend to have NFC readers, and Level 5 is trying to make a Toys To Life mobile game, but the genre has generally struggled on the platform since it's clunky.
 
My guess is Animal Crossing, because I think they'd rather not test the waters with Mario until they have something proven on the platform. If they released some kind of Mario game on mobile and it didn't catch or was damaging to the brand I think that'd end the experiment for good. Animal Crossing is more "casual audience" oriented than Mario, which definitely has overlap with the enthusiast crowd. I think you stand more chance of pissing off the enthusiast crowd with a mobile game, so best to go with the more "casual" game.
 
I have high hopes so please, don't disappoint.
Their first mobile game is going to have a strong short term impact, whether it will be a good one or not, we shall see.

I'm more excited to see what IP they chose for the first app; more so than actually playing the game.

My guess: an old school Donkey Kong arcade platformer.

I think it would be very smart for them to target Japan at first, the mobile markets in Japan and the States is just too different at this moment.
 
So lets how bad are the F2P mechanics are going to be? That is the question. I am guessing pretty terrible since its going to target Japan/Asia first.

Force of habit, hence the quotation marks. Is there such a term as "auto runner"? Basically what the Rayman mobile games do.
