The GMs

Ever see somebody running around with their name colored blue rather than white (PSU) or Gold (AotI)? That my friends is a Sega certified PSU GM! They're supposed to help with support issues in-game and like..... stuff!

eggshen: Old oldddd GM didn't last long I think?

ChillAura: Lasted around a year or so.

ClumsyOrchid: Now does Segac community work type stuff.

Melchior / Ruby Eclipse: Former regular game player he's now living the dream of working for Segac and being a GM, though he may be less focused on PSU now that he's moved up to the Segac Community Manager position.

Sage: One of the characters on the now departed Chillaura's GM account. This character/account has been taken over by the latest GM, Edward of PSU billing fame. He helped many people out during the 065 crisis so you know he's good people!

Important Information Regarding PC/PS2 Servers - Please Read
Attention Phantasy Star Universe players,

We regret to announce that the PC and PlayStation2 servers for Phantasy Star Universe will be closing as of this March 31st 2010.

SEGA would like to extend its sincere thanks to those who have played on the PC/PS2 servers over the past several years. The final update for PC/PS2 servers will be this January 29th 2010, which will start the long awaited MAG+ event. This event will receive the same updates & web support as the event on the Xbox 360 servers.

Please note that after January 29th 2010, no new PSU subscriptions will be available for purchase for PC/PS2. Those who are subscribed as of that time will be able to play, for free, until service closure.

The schedule is as follows:

-January 29th 2010: MAG+ event begins for PC/PS2 and Xbox 360 servers.

-January 29th 2010: No new PC/PS2 PSU subscriptions will be available for purchase.

-January 29th 2010: Free play for PC/PS2 PSU begins. No more billing cycles will take place on or after this date.

-March 31st 2010: PC/PS2 servers / service closure, the PlayStation2 and PC versions of Phantasy Star Universe online play will not be available after this date, however, please continue to enjoy the Single Player version of the game.

For those who play the Xbox 360 version of Phantasy Star Universe: SEGA will continue to support, in full & with regular updates, this version of Phantasy Star Universe. This includes bringing currently unreleased and anticipated content to the XBox 360 servers. We will be able to provide more details on future Xbox 360 PSU content over the coming weeks and months.

While we are sad to see the PC/PS2 version of Phantasy Star Universe end, the year 2010 is the 10th anniversary of Phantasy Star Online -- and this server / service closure is helping to pave the way for bigger and better things for the Phantasy Star franchise in the very near future!

Thank you all again for the support and great times together with us here at SEGA playing PSU! We look forward to seeing you again in our new adventures!

* Users may obtain only one of these weapons per account!

PRIZES

Click here to check out full prize listing & images!

TOURNAMENT RULES

1. This is a bracket-style tournament consisting of 32 teams / 5 rounds per server. Matchups will be based on random drawing once all teams are finalized.

2. The first 32 teams to register on each server will qualify. All team members must be level 100+. To qualify, team captains must post the NAME, RACE and CLASS of each member.

3. Teams may have a maximum of FOUR PLAYERS, with the following requirements:

* Each team may include a maximum of 2 pure fighter types (Fortefighter or Fighmaster)
* Each team may include a maximum of 2 pure gunner types (Fortegunner or Gunmaster)
* Each team must include at least 1 pure techer (Masterforce, Fortetecher, Acrotecher)

4. Sol Atomizers, Diamates and Trimates are allowed for all players.

5. Self Buff items, moon atomizers, moon atomizer X, and star atomizers are NOT allowed.

6. No scape dolls are allowed except for techers. Techers are allowed to have 1 scape doll each, and may transfer these to other techers if they wish.

7. Players must use the same race/class throughout the entire race.

8. Alternates may be used, however, once an alterante has played for a team, they are not allowed to play for any other team.

9. Alternates must be the same class as the person they are replacing.

10. Final rewards will be given to players who played the most rounds. If players/alternates played an equal number of rounds the player who played the later rounds will qualify for the rewards.

11. OPTIONAL RULES: We have a number of special options for our most daring GUARDIANS. This is for those seeking a different sort of tournament challenge, and who want to take on the unique challenge of class/race combinations that are “less than optimal” for Time Attack purposes:

I. Players may use Neuman Fighters (fortefighter or fighmaster)! IF a team uses a Neuman fighter, 10 seconds will be deducted from their mission time PER NEUMAN FIGHTER. For example, if a team has 1 Neuman fortefighter and 1 Neuman fighmaster, they will have a total of 20 seconds deducted from their final time for each round.

II. Players may use Beast or CAST Pure Techers (Masterforce and Fortetecher only). IF a team does so, they will have 10 seconds deduucted from their mission time per Beast/CAST Techer. For example, if a team has 1 Beast Masterforce and 1 CAST Fortetecher, they will have 20 seconds deducted from their final time for each round.

12.Any team member on any team who violates any of these rules will auotmatically forfeit their round. Teams will be reminded of rules ahead of each match to ensure players do not have any illegal items, etc. Glitching or exploiting of any kind is also strictly illegal, and will result in a round being forfieted.

Still $9.99 monthly. But the base game is much much more robust now. I had originally started at launch and stopped playing after 3 months. I came back recently for the 1up Platinum Cup event and I've been having a blast.

And the expansion makes the game a lot better. Admittedly, a lot of things that were a little janky and not so user friendly will be fine-tuned and enhancements have been made all around. Especially the combat system itself.

PS2/PC players already have the enhancements that come along with the expansion but not the expansion content itself. The gameplay updates will be part of the base game so everyone can enjoy it. They'll update the 360 servers with the new enhancements next Tuesday when the expansion is released.

I might get back into this game. I have my hands full with HL2 and Halo 3 though. Might pick up Mass Effect as well, so i'll have to see.

Its a relaxing game. When I don't feel like playing Halo (which I have to win at or I'll be pissed) I'll play PSU. Its much more cooperative than Halo.

It sucks that the expansion patch got delayed until Tuesday for 360 players. Oh well...gives me time to finish Super Mario Galaxy in the meantime. I'm pretty much going to do nothing but play this game over Thanksgiving.

All the expansion content hits Tuesday for all 3 platforms. The PS2/PC players just got the server update (which I'm not sure if it included some kind of download) before 360 did. For some reason, the 360 servers will be updated on Monday night. Probably after midnight and the expansion will probably be up shortly after that on the 360 marketplace.

I was one of the few still bothering to respond to the original PSU thread and I don't think anyone called rights to do AoI's official thread but if ya did sorry!

Since I'm a PS2 player I dunno how many MS Points the monthly fee is. So lemme know!

I love a ton of the new changes! Lobby warping and increased exp/cash and hey! The club is still open! No more Hal though... ;_;

It's such a tease how the upcoming missions are going to be listed and seen by regular PSU players but unable to be played by them! Hope amazon ships my copy asap!

You can't use MS points for the monthly fee, you have to put it on a credit/debit card.

Oh that's weird since to cancel you have to go through MS x_X

So 360 doesn't get new single player content?

Nope nope. It sounds like a kinda lame situation. Its DLC-only and requires the main game be used. I guess that's why they get it for half-price.

Really? That's lame, I'd be picking it up on 360.

Anyway having played religiously for the first two months then being disgusted and stopping, I may pick this up again. Them fixing:

- ranks (no punishment for dying so long as you don't go back to the lobby)
- weapon grinding/breaking (the system detailed above is A-OK by me)
- various synthesis bullshit
- being able to warp to later lobbies

Fixes MOST of the major problems I had with the game. It's a shame my PS2 400-hour character is gone since I'd be doing this on 360 now, but whatever. I would never have stopped playing if it'd been like this from the get-go :(

It'll take me forever to go through pso-world and see how classes have changed to determine what I want to go as again, I had a complete plan for my character and had most of his stuff maxed (as was available at the time), but that would all probably be different now :lol

I think it's because it's a recurring charge. It's alot easier to just deduct money from your bank account than to have you manually go in and add at least 800 MS points every month. Everything has to go through MS because that's just how XBL is I guess.

Its a shame this thread is dead. The expansion hits tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited! Especially with the EXP changes!

Looks like the PS2/PC servers will also be going down tonight to fix and re-add some stuff that was accidentally removed in thursdays update. Sheesh. ~_~

Do I get any free subscription time with the expansion, also can I play the new content offline?
:lol

no and no (on 360 that is but hey you save $20)

Concidering it was troublesome to cancel the subscription last time, I don't know if I want to take a chance subscribing again. I need some impressions from people around here first.

I fell off the PSU bandwagon a while back, but the changes in the expansion are intriguing enough that I may pick it up and try to get back into the swing of things. Like SailorDaravon, the fixes seem to adjust a lot of what I didn't like about the game. On the flip side, shelling out $40 for the PS2 version of the expansion just plain hurts. Argh. Will anyone else here potentially be playing on the PS2?

Concidering it was troublesome to cancel the subscription last time, I don't know if I want to take a chance subscribing again. I need some impressions from people around here first.

that's not wise.

This Can't Be Life

Following the release of Ambition of the Illuminus and the Title Update we have found a critical bug that affects all clients. In order to resolve this issue we will be taking the servers offline and performing a rollback on all recent play data.

We apologize for the rollback and are performing this only because it is absolutely necessary. Please watch this thread for more information, when we have info, we'll post it here.

Thank you!

Everything done since the server went up is wiped out

only AoI people can jump online now

I haven't played PSO since version 2 of the DC original. I'm really thinking of picking this up and getting back into it. My PS2 is the old model, however, and I don't have the network adapter. I'd need to scrounge around town and find a working one. I do have a Japan region PStwo with the built-in ethernet, however. Is the Japan region version of the game language selectable to English? I don't expect it is, but I figured I'd ask. If weapons/armor/techs were all in Japanese I'd be lost.

I was one of the few still bothering to respond to the original PSU thread and I don't think anyone called rights to do AoI's official thread but if ya did sorry!!

You (or somebody else) should go back to that PSU thread and help me understand how to play this stupid game. *heh*

Its been a long time since I sat down and played psu, can anyone tell me how busy the ps2/pc servers are right now? out of 18 or so channels back at launch only a couple had a few stars full.

Haven't had much time to play today, but it looks like the 360's graphics have been cleaned up a little-- the framerate is much more consistent and everything looks a touch sharper.

Looking forward to spending some time with this later tonight. If any GAFers want to play or need some help and guidance from a PSU vet, post away or send me a message/ friend request at my gamertag: kevington

No Single Player content for 360 = no-buy for me.

The single player story for AOI(part 2) has been playable on PSU (online) since August.

Will anyone else here potentially be playing on the PS2?

I'm on the PS2-side!

Wasn't the server only up a couple of hours? That still sucks though! Our sides emergency maintenance last night didn't even do what it was supposed to (bring back PM devices, sol atomizers at npc, etc)!

We've been averaging 4 stars full on the main universe since friday. Not much but its still plenty of people and hopefully more with AoI out.

Well actually the last chapter came out in august! There's supposed to be a buncha differences with the "full" offline version of the story so I'm actually looking forward to playing that unlike the awful first episode.

If you reactivate an account, can you resume use of your old character or do you have to start from scratch?

I made a post over in the official thread. I'm currently at level five, and the only quests I can find in my level range is the Linear Line quest, which is either Level 1 or Level 10. I can't find any other quests to do next at this point, and I really don't feel like doing Linear Line lv1 over and over and over.

You can do any "C" mission online, as none of them have minimum level requirements. Some are more difficult than others, of course. LL is just the easiest.

Is there any way for me to try the new old combat without paying for the expansion/paying for online? does the update work with PSU original single player? or that demo on live?

Another fun update awaits Japan tomorrow! Male PMs and AMF Infested with Mother Brain! Can't wait for next month for the Ragol missions with Dengeki Cup :D Ep2 offline isn't much different from online. It's just that it's fully voiced and there's a new boss. However, it's a lot more of a balanced and enjoyable single player experience that's similar to that of PSO's than episode 1 was. Also, if you're really interested in the story, make sure to read the "Phantom of Arkguard" comic for some really juicy back story.

Nobiru: Only means to experiencing it offline is via Episode 2 story in which it's not even fully implemented. So no go on XB360.

Shidoshi: Unless you do some tagging along, getting to lv8-10ish @ LL is the best way to start off.

boo, i just want to try out the new combat before i buy it. do you think they will update the demo though?

I spent over a million meseta yesterday buying some new weapons and stuff for my room.
My PM made 3 different weapons on the first try, but it refused to make a pair of Arb Baiso (which kicks ass). 4 attempts and 4 failures with 2 star luck. I also love the fact that monsters on C runs drop way more meseta than before.

I played the xbox version for about an hour yesterday. Things I noticed and liked:

*The login error occurs no more. The one where you have to exit out and select XBOX live again and hope it connects this time. About freaking time.

*On the types screen they finally fixed the descriptions that before had a ton of text spilling over eachother to the point where you couldn't read the description. Yay for text polishing

*The game's graphics look a lot cleaner on the xbox now. And it runs so smoothly with a lot less slowdown than before. In fact, in the parties I joined I don't remember experiencing the framerate dropping as low as it used to. Very nice.

* I do a heck of a lot more damage now. Plus I like how my attacks and combat seems to move a lot faster. It is so much easier to solo now. Combat is so much better. <3

*New shop searching options for player shops does make it so much less of a hassle. They should have included this a long time ago.

*I like how the new items in shops are marked with a blinking explanation point. Pretty nifty.

The first three universes where full yesterday so that's a good sign. Though the few parties I joined were full of idiots who didn't talk and would leave at random without saying anything. I can understand if you're too lazy to type but you can't even use voicechat? Now if I join a party and can't even get a response from my hello I just drop out.

Anyone interested in playing again should give it another shot. All the enhancements make the game the experience it should have been in the very beginning.

I bought a used copy of the original for 20 beans and plan on getting back into it sometime next yr. This yr is so crowded with everything ME and Uncharted and A. Creed. Im really glad they made the changes, does anybody know if this supports the keypad now.

Also is anybody willing to help Orientate me next yr. That would be perfect, bc I really got lost the first time I tried playing this and I was PSO vet back during the DC era.

This is the one MMO I will actually get into, so it would be nice if Gaf had its own community.

Darn it I'm being left behind! I see yellow-named people on the PS2/PC server! No fair! ;_;

And btw our emergency update the other night didn't do a darn thing! PM Devices and stuff are still missing!

Sega says your character will be deleted after 3 months but that doesn't mean its true. Ya never know!

Must've missed that! Ya you can do any C level mission. I'd guess you're on the 360 server so it shouldn't be hard to find other low level teams to run around with. Go one down to the various planets and poke around.

I've heard the expansion updates affected 360 Extra mode and that you can do Just Attack/Counter there~maybe give that a try? Though obviously you'll need the updated system file which means you have to log in so I guess not. >_<?

Maybe someone could start a thread in the online board and keep track of GAF'ers who play and on which servers? They tried that in the original PSU thread but stuff like that is hard to keep up with...

By some crazy act of shipping awesomeness AoI ended up with me on saturday even though it had shipped thursday! But I was so busy I haven't had a chance to get into it. >.<

I did update the OP with PS2 memory requirements. The offline file is 1kb more then PSU's but the online file is 2kb less. Weird tradeoff!

Yeah and no widescreen mode for us PS2'ers.... wah..... ;_;
