Add it to the list of announcements to expect from San Diego Comic Con.

From the blog of artist Kevin Dart comes the first look at some of the backgrounds from Genndy Tartakovsky’s SYM-BIONIC TITAN, his first show for Cartoon Network since Clone Wars.

We’ve collected our favorites below (by Scott Wills, Caesar Martinez, Kevin Dart, and Joseph Holt):

We highly encourage you to click to embiggen (even the one at the top of the post). The detail has to be seen to be believed.

This looks absolutely amazing. I'm surprised he could go from the crappy new art style Dexter took towards its end to this

Well, he had Samurai Jack in between, which had a consistent art style throughout that was heavily praised. This seems to be borrowing much more from SJ than DL.

He had nothing to do with those later seasons of Dexter's Lab.

Most definitely. This show definitely has the hand drawn look SJ had and looks nowhere near as sterile as the newer seasons of Dexter's Lab during the 2000's.

Chris Savino (later of Johnny Test fame) did that.

Hey Johnny Test wasn't bad!!!

... ok it wasn't THAT bad! For a Saturday morning cartoon it was fun! :D

I'll admit, it has its moments.
Johnny and Dukey are decent characters, even.
Everything else about it, though, is pretty much crap.

Johnny Test is basically a reverse Dexter. :\

Samurai Jack was perhaps the last thing I watched on Cartoon Network before I called the "I'm too old for this shit" around 15.

Do they still have that Courage the dog show? I loved the fluid sense of animation it had (besides the crappy 3D stuff).

He should be hard at work finishing off the samurai jack movie.

I'm sure he is (barring the movie does indeed still exist at this point).
Director's can work on multiple projects.

They do show it pretty much daily, but there's no new episodes, no.
Also, I'll never get how people get "too old" for cartoons, outside of like Nick Jr stuff.

That's J.J. Abrams' project.

And he ain't doing it before Super 8.

Cartoon Network has been doing a decent job of keeping older viewers watching their shows, especially with Clone Wars and their 'Adult Swim' stuff.

And they show Courage from time to time, but no new episodes.

Eh, I think more kids watch that stuff than older viewers.
They are aimed at an older audience, but they aren't the kinds of shows a lot of people from our age group really enjoy.
Except for the Boondocks.
That show is awesome.

Well, they're pretty much standard for Genndy. Very SJ/DL-esque.

Yeah, I dunno just something about them is bland or off. But hey, I'm basing this on just their looks, it will be their personalities that matter. I just don't find them to be visually stand-out designs at the moment.

Couldn't really tell much from that clip (other than the animation looks fantastic) but it looks like this should be a winner, like all of Tartakovsky's work before this.

If this turns out to be a great series, then Cartoon Network will have Clone Wars, Batman: Brave and the Bold, and Sym-Bionic Titan.

That's not that bad.
And Adventure Time, man! Come on!

Looks good. Really want to hear a premiere date. It's certainly should be a pleasure to have a new Genndy Tartakovsky show on the air again.

Screw this, he should finish Samurai Jack!
Not sure of its status now, but Bad Robot was going to produce an animated movie with Tartakovsky directing.

Oh, and just from that clip I got a Powerpuff Girls vibe, which he did directing for. I love the Powerpuff Girls. Not saying it will be like it, but it's what I thought of while watching the clip.
