EA’s reboot of ‘Medal of Honor’ debuts at No1 in the All Formats Entertainment Chart giving the big US publisher the top 2 titles with ‘FIFA 11’ (-65%) relegated to second place.

It’s the biggest ever launch week for a Medal of Honor title with 52% of sales on Xbox 360, 43% on PS3 and 5% on PC. It’s also the 4th biggest launch week for an Xbox 360 title in 2010 and 5th biggest in 2010 on PS3. ‘Just Dance 2’, the sequel to the biggest selling game (on one format) so far in 2010, starts life at No3, pushing Ubisoft’s original game out of the Top 10 for only the 7th time since its release, down from No9 to No12. A big marketing push helps Nintendo’s ‘Wii Party’ (+298%) enjoy a strong second week, up from No10 to No4 – Nintendo’s highest chart position since ‘Super Mario Galaxy 2’ reached No3 15 weeks ago. ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2011’ (-59%) falls from No2 to No5, but Konami still have 2 games in the Top 10 with ‘Castlevania: Lords of Shadow’ (-40%) holding on, despite a slip from No6 to No10. Codemasters’ ‘F1 2010’ (-35%) drops from No4 to No6, ahead of ‘Dead Rising 2’ (-38%) by only a small margin. ‘Halo: Reach’ (-37%) falls 3 places to No8, while Namco Bandai just miss out on 2 top 10 titles as ‘Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2’ debuts at No9, ahead of fellow Namco Bandai title ‘Enslaved: Odyssey to the West’ (-39%) which drops out of the Top 10, falling from No7 to No11. The only other new entry to make the Top 40 this week is 2KGames’ ‘Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition’ at No35.

Man Wii party is seeing some crazy marketing. Shit should sell 10 mil in the long run

September top 10

1. FIFA 11 (EA)
2. Halo: Reach (Microsoft)
3. F1 2010 (Codemasters)
4. Dead Rising 2 (Capcom)
5. Mafia II (2K Games)
6. Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days (Square Enix)
7. Toy Story 3 (Disney)
8. Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands (Ubisoft)
9. Sports Champions (Sony)
10. Just Dance (Ubisoft)

X360 biggest overall seller

Sports Champ at 9 may give the numbers guys something to play with (but as it's less than quite a few old games I'm not sure it'll be positive news). Should help put that launch week into perspective though.

We had a few 'approximate' numbers from the chart in the last weeks thread so maybe the posters should transfer them here.

It seems evergreen (with 2 weeks of data... :lol), but coming with the old spec controller seems a crazy move when the UK gets the new controller in 2/3 weeks time. Nintendo will be Nintendo though. Maybe a +£10 DX version with the Wiimote Plus is on the cards?

Just Dance 2 will be attacking from this point on too so the Wii has casual appeal, I'd love to see Move & Kinect titles in the top 10 next month though.

Wow, pretty low numbers all around (except for major releases), SC bomba. As far as top 10 goes UK market definetely looks overrated.

UK population-wise is like 1/5 of the US. If you'd multiply the results by 5, you'd get numbers much bigger than the American top 10. So I'd say these numbers are healthy.

Sports Champions at 38K for the first 3 weeks can not be a good sign for Move in the UK.

Spain tracked Starter pack sales and for September Move starter pack was #2 and SC was #10.

1.5m was shipment data

and Spain has a much smaller videogame consumer market than Britain

So you judging Move sales on a single piece of software only in the UK? That is really silly.

Edit: What is with people using SC to judge the Move sales? It makes NO sense at all.

SC is not bundled with the Move in the UK. Those are pretty good numbers for a non bundled game.

I know it was not bundled. Still not a good sign that the top Move game has only 38K for its first 3 weeks.

No sense? It's the top selling move game in a country where we only get demos bundled in. You'd assume people who bought the hardware would be playing something with it, though I guess they could be playing Heavy Rain / MAG / Resident Evil.

Everyone did a very good job extrapolating the numbers for Mafia, Dead Rising, and Move, congrats.

Also, I think Chart Track is now tracking up to 95% of the UK gaming market, up from 90%.

I think Sports Champion can be a fair indicator of Move sales.

As others have stated, when the only game to chart sells 38k in three weeks...it's not good.

Has a Castlevania title actually ever sold well?

This may end up being the best selling castlevania but I'm not sure if it will be the most profitable. I think there may still be room for 2d castlevania out there. I enjoy them, my dorm mate had a bunch of these games for the ds. I'm surprised we havent seen one for the Wii (probably too late now), I think there was even on the psp right?

What does one game's number have to do with a shipping number of all of Europe of the accessory itself?

G-B weighs one third of the overall Europe market. If we assume it sold evenly across Europe, then Sports Champions sold around 120k during its first 3 weeks of sales.

In entire goddamn area.

Now, put this in comparision with the 1.5 M Move shipments worldwide. I frankly don't know if the GfK data took in account bundles, but if every Sports Champions counted was either bundled or not, then Move rather started with a whisper, as SC is its star software.

Recent handheld titles sold between 300k and 400k WW. Circle of the Moon on the GBA sold around 700k WW. Symphony of the Night sold near a million WW if not more just on PlayStation, and the rereleases on PSN and XBLA were both quite well-received. Chronicles didn't pass 100k. Curse of Darkness probably struggled to cross 200k across two platforms. Lament did around 300k on the PS2. Castlevania 64 did about 500k. Legacy of Darkness, probably didn't even crack 100k. None of the older Actionvania titles broke a million.

It's a solid seller with a lot of brand awareness in North America, but it's rarely been huge WW. Its sales home is definitely the USA.

A bit surprised by the MOH numbers with the bad reviews and talk it has gotten. Not that it got REALLY bad reviews, but it seems like a pretty average game looking at the reviews for it. I guess it proves yet again that most people don't even bother with reviews.

Edit again: forgot the previous weeks spots for the games. Major drop for PES2011. Not really surprising i guess.
I'm not sure if I wrote the previous week chart spot for WoW: WotLK correctly. It was not on the top 20 of last week but I know it has been released already, so it's not a new release. But it didn't say where it placed last week so I wrote (__). I hope that's correct. It's the first time I do this.

GB, for PS3 IIRC is more like about 1/5 of their userbase in europe. If we're talking about the PAL territories in general (which I think House probably was), a bit smaller still perhaps.

In calendar weeks that was for 2 and a bit weeks of sales.

By the time Andrew House gave the 1.5 shipped figure (for Europe, btw, not the world), they were at 4 calendar weeks.

To use the same extrapolation you use but at 20% instead of 33%, that's closer to 200K. Were is it at week 4? And what's the attach rate for it? That might give you an idea of where we're at across Europe, but we're missing two important pieces of info. In particular I think what might be a reasonably realistic attach rate for SC is quite debatable.

That said, I would revise down my estimate based on House's numbers for unique users :p Something like 500K may be more reasonable (assumption: 50% attach rate for SC).

But 1.5 M for Europe only ? Those supply guys were smoking cocaine and crack. Can't believe they went so optimistic with the amounts on the shelves.

There may be more subtlety to that kind of number than meets the eye.

Sold to retail gives some wiggle room in terms of stock sold to retail vs stock on shelves.

For example, when he said this, it doesn't necessarily mean there were 1.5m controllers actually sitting with retailers right now. For all we know Sony may have just accepted a new big order after the initial launch shipment, letting him count those units in his number without actually having shipped them to retail.

Let's say for example they just took orders amounting to 500k after the original launch shipment in the days prior to House's comments. That would mean that there would really 'only' be 1m out at retail up to that point.

1m controllers in the first month with - let's say - 500k people buying in seems a lot more reasonable. Let's say 1.25 controllers were bought per person - that means 750k sold, or a 75% sellthrough. That might explain also why some people see stock shortages in their part of the world also. All the while not actually being incongruent with House's statements.

(I'm just pulling numbers out here to illustrate, but I think you get the point about the gap between what they can say they've sold vs what's actually out with retail at a given point in time).

I am still shocked to see Mario Kart DS still charting when I pop into a sales thread here and there. The game is nearly five years old at this point. As in 2005. As in around the time the 360 came out, and a full year before the PS3 and Wii hit. Most games released that year aren't even being produced anymore. Games released that year include DMC3, RE4, the first God of War... hell, released in the same month was the first Guitar Hero; an entire franchise has risen and fallen in the time that MKDS has continued to sell.

Well, it's a hell of a strong franchise. Both among the hardcore and the casual gamers. And it's probably the best version of Mario Kart as well. Good games that are made for huge markets sell well, and continue to do so until the console is discontinued :>

nintendo needs to annualize wii sports, mario kart, new super mario bros and wii sports and cut the fancy zelda, kirby, metroid, donkey kong games that do nothing saleswise asap. amazing how badly the wii is doing once a wii fit, wii sports or mario kart isnt there to help boost sales.

No, why would anyone want this? It's probably better to make variations of these games: wii party, diddy kong racing, etc. There wasnt exactly a huge market for sonic kart either despite it being a well made game, apparently. SMH at you wanting to get rid of donkey kong country.

i want them to make a diversion of games. but at the same time purely from a sales standpoint they are failing hard and the recent shift to more hardcore oriented titles seems to be the reason.

sakamoto would have made at least 3 times as much as money if he made another wario ware or rythm heaven instead of other m.
