Wii U Reality Check - Black Op's II No Native 1080'p Support

After the previous PR GAF where it was said that the Wii U Version of the game would be 60fps and 1080p Wii U fans were excited.. Sadly Activision has brought us back to reality.

Nintendo fans have no doubt been excited about Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II making its way onto the Nintendo Wii U next month (Nov. 18 to be exact).

However, after the publisher had previously stated that the game could run at 60fps and at 1080p, gamers have been asking the question as to whether or not that 1080p is native or if the console will upconvert it.

Today, Activision confirmed to us via email that “The game is not natively 1080p”, which of course means that it’s the Wii U that will be able to upconvert it, since the system supports the format.

In addition, the publisher also confirmed that the Wii U version of the game will also feature the re-imagined Nuketown map, for those who pre-order the game.

Also I will leave you with this.

If you’re on the fence about which platform to get Call of Duty: Black Ops II on, and you’re already planning on picking up a Wii U, I’d highly recommend checking this version out. You might even say it’s the most complete package of them all.

Bummer but not too surprising, although I think the Nuketown 2025 for pre-orders on Wii U is also new news. I have to imagine it's DLC too if it is gonna be pre-order only. Can't wait till the next ND so we can finally hear about the Wii U OS and online.

Where is the email? Am I supposed to trust a nobody gaming site called GOTGAME over Activision's own statement at the demonstration? I truly do not care but the credibility is just not there to me.

LOL, if the ps3 and 360 can't run it at 1080p/60, why the fuck would the wii u?

Because the Wii U is more powerful than either of those systems. It Could run at 1080p but being ported from older consoles I don't think the effort was put in..

At the very least.. Wii U should run it in 720p @ 60fps.

Having Call of Duty Classic on XBLA the only HD COD on console is depressing.

The PS3 and 360 could run COD at 720p at 60fps, the only reason it doesn't is because Activision doesn't want to do it.

Maybe because the Wii U is more powerful.

Maybe because the Wii U is more powerful.

I don't deny this as the PS3 and 360 could probably handle that in single player but I assume it would be to taxing for Online modes and they don't want to have two separate engines to maintain / patch etc...

Not necessarily, the Wii U footage looks better than the PS3/360 version from what we can see from the old footage, and the Wii U will have Wiimote support.

And the PC version looks the best, doesn't mean that its not a port of the 360 version.

I only wanted/expected black ops 2 for the wii u to be playable on the game pad and since it was confirmed ages ago, then i could care less for 1080p

time to double dip with the xbox 360 version :D

They gentelman who posted this news also said the following:

but I did play the game earlier this week and it not only looked very, very good, but was smooth as butter (framerate).

Thats a plus over the PS3 version of Black Ops and a good sign for the Wii U fans.. I have double dipped as well PS3/Wii U version for me.

B...b..bbut GAF said it "knew" that it "definitely" was 1080p at 60fps.

I blame Activision for not trying hard enough.

In all seriousness, 720p is still better than what Wii offered. In time, there will be 1080p title for the console. Just don't expect too much partiality from activision for a system that does not possess an install base significant enough to warrant that kind commitment of resources.

Didn't they screwed around with the colors a bit too?

I also heard less blur and better textures, but I don't want to go there.

Its a port of the 360 version. Don't expect magic. Its a lazy port.

Actually, it's the complete opposite of a "lazy port".
It seems to be at least on par with the ps360 version's and also has pro controller & wiimote/nunchuck controls added.
All everyone is waiting on is more info regarding Nintendo's Online Infrastructure.
