‘Payday 2’ ends Minecraft’s three week run at the top of the chart and becomes 505 Games’ first No1 since Sniper Elite V2 back in Week 18 2012.

The sequel makes the jump to console following the great success of the original ‘Payday: The Heist’ which was released as a digital download only. ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (-14%) drops down to No2 while a strong boost in sales sees ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ (+60%) continue its impressive climb back up to No3. ‘FIFA 13’ (-18%) drops two places to No4 while Nintendo’s ‘Animal Crossing: New Leaf’ (-9%) holds its position at No5.

Further down the chart there is little movement with ‘The Last of Us’(-19%) still holding at No6 while ‘The Smurfs 2’ (-31%) is pushed down from No3 to No7. Both ‘Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes’ (-0%) and ‘Tomb Raider’ (-10%) are non-movers at No8 and No9 respectively. Perhaps in anticipation of the hotly awaited next instalment, Take 2’s ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’ (+6%) just edges out Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ (-10%) for the No10 spot.

Hmm. Pikmin actually held surprisingly well for a couple of weeks, but it's dropped like a rock now. I guess the Wii U installed base is very limited.

Interesting that Payday 2 debuted higher on 360 given the first game never came out on the console. That must speak volumes to developers.

So Lego Batman 2 has been in the charts for 58 weeks according to The Guardian. Great achievement.

Honestly, at this rate with the UK market and it being summer, any game that doesn't crack the top 5 at launch may as well call it quits.

As for the game, it is pretty great bar the horrible game finder and USB mics not working on PC at the moment. Once you're in the game itself, it's fantastic.

Yeah I can imagine last week being another really slow one at retail, certainly going off the chart. 4 figures is enough to break Top5 or even the top spot at the moment.

Watch TLOU fly straight back up the charts when retailers eventually discount it to £30, then again at £25 and £20.

In fact this is the first time in a while a Sony exclusive has held it's value (£35 to £40) for so long from what I can remember.

Small tidbit about german hardware sales. GFK released a report about consumer electronics including gaming consoles.

Revenue first half 2013 gaming consoles: 151 mio (-25,2% ~ 201mio) .
That's probably less than 1 mio units.

Everything else (TVs, BD Players) is also down. Smartphones and speakers are up.

Amazon.co.uk is invaded by PS4 console and, above all, games: the release date announcement gave to many people a reason for preordering titles. Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14, Watchdogs and Battlefield 4 are the most preordered PS4 titles, with Killzone following. Xbox One is outside top 20, but it's obvious since there's no release date yet.

The Wonderful 101 is at around 91st, but it should be taken in consideration how having a top 100 invaded by PS4 items alter charts positions for recent/upcoming titles. Still, we shouldn't expect that much from its debut at retail, sadly ;_;

But...what about the next week? Another week with lots of releases. Here's the current situation on Amazon, around 13:50 GMT:

Lazy fucks are all on gamescom. Fifa 13 (PS3) is #1 (Bundesliga start, Media Markt Buy 3 Pay 1 sale).

No public Top 10 in the foreseeable future. It's possible to subscribe gamesmarkt for 1 month for free, but you need real payment data and you have to cancel it actively. I think Bruno has a sub for now or a source. I considered subscribing, but I think I save this for more interesting times.

Big games can't get here soon enough. In the U.S., some analysts are expecting the full market to end flat to slightly up for the year. Hard for me to see how that could happen in the UK, but happy to be wrong! (3 million unit deficit and £70mm in the hole, relative to last year at this time...)

Seeing Minecraft up so high makes me glad its coming to playstation. What I don't get is how its a launch game for ps4 and not XB1.

This whole research I did is now useless: many games switched positions, with Rayman Legends greatly rising (think just that PS3 and Wii U are in top 80, Vita almost in top 100), but there's a reason: there's been a huge amount of titles which got a price decrease. Examples
Killzone: Mercenary / AC: New Leaf / Mario&Luigi / LCU:The Chase Begins - from 27.99 to 25
Luigi's Mansion 2 - from 31.99 to 28
The Last of Us - from 37.99 to 35
Call of Duty: Ghosts/ One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 - from 39.99 to 35

But there are many more examples (including Rayman Legends, obviously). Even some next gen games saw their prices decreased. Anyone know why such a collective decrease? Some games stayed the same, including Etrian Odyssey IV, but they're the minority.
