Sony's PS4 has well and truly landed, becoming the fastest selling video game console in UK history. It overturns the 8 year record held by the original PSP and eclipses the launch week sales of both PS3 and Xbox One.

'Call of Duty: Ghosts' (+33%) returns to No1 outselling 'FIFA 14' (-0%) by just over 6,000 units this week. After being heavily boosted by the Xbox One Day 1 Edition bundles last week, 'FIFA 14' has to settle for second place in the All Formats Chart despite strong sales on PS4. 'Battlefield 4' (+85%) holds on to No3 ahead of top selling PS4 exclusive title 'Killzone: Shadow Fall' at No4.

The official PS4 Killzone hardware bundles help give Sony's title the edge over EA in the PS4 chart with 'FIFA 14' at No2 and 'Battlefield 4' at No3, while 'Call of Duty: Ghosts' and 'Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag' sit at No's 4 and 5 respectively. Every title in the All Formats Top 10 is on PS4 apart from 'Grand Theft Auto V' (+92%) at No7 and 'Batman: Arkham Origins' (+155%) at No10. All Top 10 titles increase sales this week with only sales of FIFA 14 remaining flat. 'Assassin's Creed IV' (+19%) drops one place to No5 ahead of 'Lego Marvel Super Heroes' (+39%), a non-mover at No6. It might not be on the latest formats, but sales of 'GTA V' still jump by 92% this week, helping it climb one place to No7. However, PS4 software sales have certainly helped 'Need for Speed: Rivals' (159%) which jumps into the Top 10, up from No13 to No8. 'Just Dance 2014' (+127%) is also out on PS4, but it's a rise in sales on Wii that propels it into the Top 10, up from No14 to No9. It looks like Black Friday retailer promotions have been working their magic on certain titles with 'Batman: Arkham Origins' also back in the Top 10, up from No16 to No10.

Other than Killzone, there are three more new titles that make appearances in the Top 40 this week: PS4 exclusive 'Knack' debuts at No13, ahead of 'Super Mario 3D World' on Wii U at No14 and 'Injustice: Gods Among Us – Ultimate Edition' at No38.

Launching Mario 3d World in the same week with PS4 launch and Black Friday (while there weren't so many black friday deals for Wii U) was a terrible idea on Nintendo's side.

Bit disappointed about Zelda sales, hopefully it has long legs because ALBW deserves it.

No XBO exclusives in the Top 20 in the second week after launch?

Given that we're missing splits still, the only reasonable estimate we can have for new entries is KZ which can be anywhere between 82k and 133k (ACIV < KZ < BF4).

Also past CoD estimates seem to have underestimated actual sales, given its position respective to FIFA.

Is it bad that the XBO software sales fell off like that? I would have thought CoD would still be at the top.

What happened? Killzone sold more than Fifa, Battlefield and Call of Duty on PS4? Did not expect that, wow.

Guess we'll never know. Not knocking on Knack, because if you were a parent, it's one of the few games you buy for your kid for ps4 at launch. Non-bundled version of knack have to be interesting,

I don't think it's surprising. It was in 2 official bundles. FIIFA, CoD and BF weren't. Besides, CoD had 2 weeks of sales already.

People have been downplaying the middling performance of Pokemon for a while now, but it almost got pushed completely out of the Top 40 this week. That seems like a bad sign.

Before we jump to conclusions, let's see how PS4 software sales look next week.

Kind of surprised to see KZ at the top. Were the reviews a bit hard on it after all, like with Mercenary?

nice, Killzone is fucking awesome. Both SP and MP.

The drop in software in second week should be quite normal as most people buy the games they want together with the console already. Unless you finish the games you bought quite fast and decide to buy others.

What I take from this is that UK wants the PS4 so bad they even got the bundle with Knack when the others got sold out ?

I expect great things from Sony's new console, both in sales and games, and will gladly get one when they get some exciting stuff on it besides Resogun!

Good for Guerilla Games, despite KZ:SF supposedly being underwhelming. Hopefully they've realised what needs to be addressed going forward for their new IP.

Shame about SM3DW, deserves to be No 1.

The numbers are in and Sony has been crowned king of the next-gen launches - PlayStation 4 sold a whopping 250,000 units in the UK over the weekend.

That's around 100,000 more than Xbox One sold over its launch a week ago, MCV reports.

If anyone's interested the total launch week of PS4 boxed software (and pre-launch weeks rolled up) were around 32% greater than the run up and launch week of Xbox One.
