It's been almost exactly 8 years since the launch of Microsoft's Xbox 360 (Week 48-2005) and this week we welcome Microsoft's Xbox One.

In terms of hardware sales, 80% of all home consoles sold this week were Xbox One and this new platform outsold the week 1 for Xbox 360 by a factor of 2. There are 16 launch titles for Xbox One of which 14 actually debut this week (2 titles were released last week). 10 out of these 16 appear in the All Formats Top 40 (exactly the same number of titles appeared in the Top 40 of week 48/05).

EA's 'FIFA 14' (+328%) returns to No1 after a 7 week absence - the lead format is the new Xbox One version, which is the biggest selling Xbox One game thanks of course to the 'Xbox One Day 1 FIFA 14 Edition' (featuring a download token of the game, included here). In fact the PS4 version of 'FIFA 14' also debuts here, a week before the launch of PS4 hardware. Activision Blizzards’ 'Call of Duty: Ghosts' (-16%) drops to No2 after 2 weeks at the top (Xbox One/PS4 versions both out prior to this week). EA's 'Battlefield 4' climbs 2 places to No3 (+134%) thanks to the new Xbox One version and Ubisoft remain at No4 with 'Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag' (+123%) with Xbox One and PS4 versions both out this week. In terms of Xbox One exclusives Microsoft's 'Forza Motorsport 5' debuts at No5 as the largest of these and also featured as a Hardware/Software Day 1 Edition.

Second in the list of Xbox One exclusives at No7 is Microsoft/Capcom's 'Dead Rising 3', with Nintendo taking the next biggest new release at No9 with 3DS 'The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds'. The third biggest Xbox One exclusive is right behind at No10 - Microsoft's 'Ryse: Son of Rome'.

It is eye candy, and the best looking game available right now. So people are going to ignore the gameplay and see what the new gen is going to offer in the future.

It has the most next gen looking graphics. Even if it plays like a pile of wank.

Is this the first week for the Wii U version of AC4? It barely made it into the individual Wii U charts.

A good week for Xbone. It is interesting that X360 COD Ghost is above Xbone COD. Also, probably what's below Fifa 14 for X360 is nothing spectacular in terms of sales.

I guess they treated it as physical since it came with the consoles pre-orders.

Forza bundle also hurts it. Why would gamers purchase another racing game if the console came bundled with a superior racing game, unless you very specifically wanted arcade racing + open world.

360 FIFA was 25k last week. So maybe not that low, UK wise.

Though you would imagine it dropped.

They count anything sold via retail. I guess they factor in the game bundles as a retail sale regardless of it being a download code.

Tearaway is incredible. I knew it would probably bomb in the end but it still doesn't deserve sales that poor at all. It's no wonder all we get is shooting games when games with actual creativity just don't sell.

I meant Puppeteer. Not Tearaway. Not sure how that would translate to PS4.

Are these charts going to be usefull in the years ahead without having information on digital sales?

Tearaway I imagine would have been higher and PS4 and XB1 are going to be pushing digital sales.

We haven't even seen any numbers.

Besides, it's not like previous Killzones were any sort of big sellers, so Shadowfall will be par for course even in the worse case scenario.

Seems Tearaway on Vita was a waste of MM's talents. Hope they move on to a PS4 LBP game as soon as possible.

Tearaway is on the wrong handheld for the audience it was going for, this is the reality(I know it was a 1st party studio).

I think it will be the last Killzone game and SCEE will force GG to move the fuck on from it to something else, hopefully which doesn't have shooting as it's core mechanic.

The only things GG are good at are graphics and shooting mechanics. I am really afraid whatever they will do next may turn out even more critically and commercially a flop

A great game is never a waste of anyone's talent. Besides, the game was made by 15 people.

They already have a team working on PS4 stuff. If anything, Tearaway is a gateway for greater things utilising the papercraft concept moving forward on PS4.

Double Eleven and Tarsier should be able to make use of the MM secret sauce into something great, while MM go think up another crazy concept.

It wouldn't work on anything but the Vita. It uses the rear touch a lot.

Back touch as well. It would translate poorly to PS4. It really uses the Vita to it's fullest, which makes it so awesome.

Just because it never did well doesn't mean it's a flop. Killzone games keep getting made, despite their percieved flops compared to other mainstream shooters.

And anyway, why concern yourself over stuff like that. Let them make it, and we'll be the judge. Every studio goes through their ups and downs.

Xbox One sells 150k units in first week in UK

Microsoft’s Xbox One sold around 150k units in its first 48 hours in the UK, MCV understands.

Chart-Track this morning confirmed that Xbox One doubled the week one UK sales of its predecessor Xbox 360, which was launched worldwide in 2005.

Numbers released the week after Xbox 360’s launch showed that the console sold 70k in the UK in the same period, although MCV has since been informed that the Xbox One number is in fact slightly over double this.

Perhaps more tellingly this means that Xbox One is, according to the same source, now just a few thousand units short of beating the Wii U’s total UK sales accrued since its release a year ago this week.

Stock permitting Xbox One should shoot ahead of Nintendo’s machine this week. And a strong launch for PS4 this Friday could see Nintendo relegated to third place in the UK next-gen battle.
