February was the month of small, yet polished experiences! Plenty of smaller games that surprised us more than we thought possible, which is also reflected in the voting. March looks a bit meatier and hopefully we see more impressions to have some more people participating in the vote than last month.

Additionally, minichange in the title formatting to make a distinction to last years threads.

Other than that, the current month has 51 games in the released section and 86 in the future section, so have fun guys with another month of Indies!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
| 3.5 Quick Note about Formatting |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you want to suggest a game that has recently released or that looks interesting, but hasnt released yet, please follow the following formatting structure:

Released games:
TITLE - PRICE (PLAT)
LINK

DESCRIPTION TEXT
Not yet released games:
TITLE - PLAT
LINK

DESCRIPTION TEXT

Copy the appropriate content and add the proper information for the black writing. Please only include 1 link and 1 image. I tried making it a bit failsafe, so it should be able to deal with 2 links or images as well, but 1 is safer.

If the game is free, then put "Free" as the price, otherwise please use $ or € for the price. You can also include more than one game per post (like the Screenshot saturday posts), but please stick to the above format for every entry.

If someone posts a non-proper formatted post, I'd appreciate if you could repost the game with the same info in the proper format.

Hey! I assume you are new in this thread series and want to see what we were up to? Or you didnt have enough time to play through all of the games from the last month but still want to catch up with the best ones? Then this list is for YOU! These were the games we enjoyed the most in the previous thread, voted on by the community (More thorough descriptions and impressions in the previous thread, especially the last few pages with the voting):

1. Cosmochoria - Free browser demo, late 2014 (PC, Mac, Linux)
P1xeFRh.jpg

http://www.cosmochoria.com

Cosmochoria is a love letter to old-school action / arcade games like Asteroids, Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong. Cosmochoria is a mesmerizing way to kill hours: hopping between planets, unravelling forgotten mysteries, killing aliens and planting seeds to sprout new life across a long-barren galaxy. Its also currently on Kickstarter, more information over here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=792398
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Nothing to Hide - Free Alpha Demo (PC, Browser)
TqmLL0f.jpg
http://nothing-to-hide-demo.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html
Calling itself an "anti-stealth game", Nothing To Hide is both a biting satire on the lives we are seemingly forced to lead in a post-private world, and an innovative, subversive stealth experience at that. The goal is to remain visible at all times - a frightening proposition, but one that is all to real.
v68dXM1.jpg
http://superdupergc.com/
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

4. Card City Nights - $3,99 (PC)
ezzhhYL.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/271820/?cc=us

Its not the most complex of card games but it is nice and snappy to play and the overall package is full of lovely art in both the cards and the surrounding scenes as you wander across this nighttime island city, which basically seems like a halfbreed of that game on FF8 and a match 3 puzzler At less then £2, the entire game is pretty nuts with the sheer variety of different scenes and characters you come across. It feels like a product that costs 4x to 5x it's value at least.

4. Glitchspace - $5.99 (PC, Mac, Linux)
glitchspace-indie-game-indie-statik.png

http://spacebudgie.com/games/glitchspace

I noticed there are a few noteworthy, and relatively unknown, projects that deserve a shoutout here because I feel that they share a common interest with the people in this thread. I talked to the guy from Pixabyte and MetaVendetta and both are very enthusiastic about the things they love and figured you might appreciate the shoutout as well. If you enjoy anything here or want to give feedback, let these guys know via their websites or also here in this thread. If you appreciate something, let people know. A heads up can sometimes very valuable.

This is a monthly podcast series that presents notable Indie Game soundtracks. A likeable host and guests, a fantastic track selection, interesting discussions and a focus for Indies will make this one a mainstay in my monthly threads.

Episode 9: My Indie Valentine
[Broken Age | Titan Souls | Master Spy | Serena | Chrono Trigger]

00BY11T.png

My very own, highly amateur game impressions YT channel. Its a bit of self-pimping, but since I only make videos for games of this thread, I think it might as well be included here.

I am using my thread creator powers to post, once again, about Cubesis ($4,99), until you guys either damn it to hell and give me feedback that my gaming taste is rotting or agree with me that its a lovely game (or any middleground).

Cubesis_2014-02-20_11-15-04-27.png

http://www.desura.com/games/cubesis

My initial impressions:
I am enjoying this game immensely because of its level structure. I expected more of a simulation type game, but what it feels like is more of a very accessable turn based puzzle game with simulation game mechanics. Its hard to describe, because Cubesis is quite... unusual and wacky (in a good way). You are building buildings, growing crops and terraforming the land by sacrificing your villagers, which you are gaining via keeping your city healthy, supported with food, not flooded and not frozen over. The game mechanics are rather simple while also offering enough depth to be interesting, for example taking care of the temperature or sea level by appeasing gods to allow for walking on the ground of the sea or to water fields to allow for growing crops.
Cubesis is quite a bit less complex than "proper" simulation games, but the Cubesis developers knew how to play to their strength. Instead of a huge focus on randomized Free Play (where they cant possibly compete with something like Banished which is way more intricate, but is still being offered as an extra level), they have 24 levels (including the tutorial levels) that need to be conquered and I am incredibly enjoying terraforming the land to achieve the goals set in each level. Banished is very likely the objectively better game, but for the time being and until I solve all the levels, I am enjoying Cubesis quite a bit more. I checked it out yesterday and couldnt stop playing until 4 hours later.

And an amateurish YT video I made of the gameplay with some control explanations:

Yay new thread.

Small note that backers (such as myself) have gotten a copy of the first part of Boot Hill Heroes today. Very excited to try it out. I dunno when it'll be on sale but it will be coming to PSN with additional content. I'll give impressions (and hopefully find my NPC) so people will know if this is worth a buy (specifically to see my NPC).

Edit: Top 5 is a bit messed up with the pictures and whatnot. Also, I think it should be 'Gang(space)Beasts'. Gotta be accurate. :D

How did I miss these new SUPERHOT images?! Game is looking fantastic

New

That does indeed look nice.

I just want to say that this thread killed Firefox, also nice OP Toma and I hope we a have a lot of awesome games this month.

Speaking of which, we have two games named Paragon this month, which crashed Toma-Bot. >:-(

Shouldnt be an issue after this thread when I fixed it, but I did not anticipate that.

Yeah, I remember them popping up in my timeline some time ago, so awesome. The initial 'demo' was so accomplished, visually, it must be very difficult to finetune the look without ruining the original magic.

So reading about the GAME_JAM thing led me to learning about the whole Depression Quest/Greenlight/harassment situation

Seriously, wtf? The whole sexist attitude toward female developers is so pathetic. I just can't wrap my head what would make people believe such crap and spew such vitriol. As if gender and sex matters in crafting a game, not skill or experience or talent or creativity

Yeah, that was a pretty dark time on our internet history. Maximum respect for Zoe Quinn pushing through the stupidity and getting it on steam, hopefully to be released soon.

I'm surprised you've had any time to play indies and make this thread given your Destiny of Spirits obsession!

Me too moo, me too.

I love this games art style. It's initial prototype was made in a game jam at my university.. crazy.

I gotta agree on the art style, but I am not too interested in the game itself. The gameplay seems rather boring, but I am sure I'll try it eventually this month.

And what's more, the lead developer was the level designer of one of my favorite freeware games, the excellent Perspective
Perpsective blended 2D platforming with a 3D perspective, provides an innovative experience that really hasn't been attempted since

Oh, and he's also a GAFfer

Goat Simulator might be the best summertimiest summertime game ever created.

It's still April, though!
Who would have thought that wrecking shit as a goat would be genuinely fun? I knew it would be funny and silly but the game is just fun. So many cool little secrets, so many opportunities for crazy emergent "objectives". The different goats and mutators are hilarious. The Workshop content is already great. You can tell the developers had fun making the game

So has anyone else here played Black Ice? I like it, but I feel like the lack of any actual level design makes fights get monotonous kinda fast. Anyone else who's played it feel similarly?

Yeah, I can see that and there were some in here that would agree with you. The fights worked out to stay interesting for me because I was trying out different setups/upgrades all the time. Jumping around on rooftops, putting down mines and whatnot.

But the level design itself is certainly nothing to write home about. I also wished it had more enemy variety. Still fun though.

Personally I'd like it if when you started hacking it put you in a pre-made or randomly generated arena with some actual level design. I think the game would support that and it would make it 500% better. I also share your problem with the enemy variety, but I've been assured that more enemy types are coming.

That is actually a really neat idea. I mean its cool and all that the fights are set in the same space, but since you are "hacking" it anyway, the level areas might as well be their own levels.

Oh well.

Well the game is still in pre-alpha. I'm thinking I might try suggesting this to the dev, although I'm hesitant about doing so because this is his thing and I don't want sound like some entitled jerk who expects everyone to do everything I want. Still, I really think it would improve the game a huge amount so I'm quite torn on this.

Game was discussed in the last thread, yes. I think Toma and I were the sole proponents to walk out of that discussion. :P

Agreed. Constant loot cycle made me look past any repetition.

Like a cyber hammerhead shark invasion? Just a thought.

(Serious answer: What we played was 'only' a demo. Full version will be more varied on all accounts according to the dev.)
