I max spirits first, then dive, and ult when available, leaving sun ray for last since it doesn't do much early game when your hp is low. Getting dived really shouldn't be a problem since you can icarus dive back (maybe you don't know you can stop the dive at any point?) Just harass as much as you can and if something breaks out drop a fire spirit and try to reapply every few seconds. I go tranqs, mek, heart, shivas, and lots of wards.

I'm 8 and 1 with him and he's super fun, I've got more than a few games with 25-30 assists, it's great.

Phoenix is my new favourite offlane support simply because of the amazing harass with damage over time, attack and move speed slows. If their safelane doesn't have any ranged you can just wreck their hard carry's early game farm with Fire Spirit harass. You've got to be so careful of slows and stuns, if someone is fast enough and on point they will pick you out of a Icarus Dive and you'll just feed while trying to force something to happen. Icarus Dive is something I like to sit on and only use when necessary to secure a kill or to escape because of the cooldown.

I do max Spirits first because of the cool down reduction, attack speed reduction and damage over time increase but the second max skill depends on the game and opponent line-up. If there is a Legion Commander on the other team I will max Sun Ray second for sure. You can help keep a teammate alive a little longer while damaging LC at the same time, provided you're in a good position to just sit there and Sun Ray after throwing some AS and MS slow on LC. Icarus Dive is an amazing skill but you only get more DoT with it, so maxing that second kinda depends on what situations and heroes you're facing. Sometimes it's worthwhile to put a few more points in it early on, depends.

I go Tranquils, Headdress (over Buckler to start because I find I really need the HP regen) into Mek and then go for a Shiva's or Rod of Atos into Heart. Shiva's is a pretty big item to go for but I find it has good synergy with Phoenix's skill set. You get a nuke to go along with your DoT, however I am unsure if the ms slows stack tho. If the game is going well, it's the first big ticket item I go for cos it addresses two of the heroes issues with armor and mana regen and contributes to your teamfight presence. Sometimes I'll just buy and sit on the platemail for a while. I never buy those components at the expense of supporting tho.

Pretty sure people complain about the recommended items all the time. Vanguard Viper, Bat used to have vanguard as recommended item, Kunkka vanguard (he has great str gain, doesn't need that shit).

Edit: Regarding winning/losing/enjoyment: I don't think anyone is expected to genuinely enjoy losing, but it's an inevitable part of competition. For every close match your team barely ekes out and you feel great about, another five people have to suffer the fact that they almost won but didn't. It is inevitable that you wind up on both sides of the coin, so one should accept losing gracefully. It's not as if anger negates the results.

Yeah, the guy was either retarded or trolling. From what you've said he basically just said something around the lines of "Stupid americains you all suck *something about hamburgers, part of phrase missing* I hate you" which is ironic seeing his performance.

Tbh I have yet to meet a Quebecois who couldn't speak english, most of the time I asked them in french if they could switch to english for the non-french speakers in the game and they complied. You just seem to have been unlucky.

I think 2014 is turning into the Year of Disraptor for me.

It may not look like much on paper, but all those assists have turned into massive team domination in most of those games. I've become pretty tyrannical with Glimpse and can imagine how much opponents must hate my guts after these games. Good thing I'm in garbo-tier MMR too cause nobody buys a BKB unless the top rated guide for their hero has one as a core item.
