But realistically both are very conservative to last gen with parts more suited to the smaller form factor.

The Wise Old Man arrived home from Best Buy, his face fixed in an excited smile because of the hefty package he cradled in his toned, muscular arm. At long last he had made his choice of a next gen console, and was ready to install the new system and enjoy Ground Zeroes, the prelude to Hideo Kojima's latest masterpiece.

Upon unboxing the console, however, he felt an inexplicable sense of dread as he gazed into his own reflection on the PS4's case. The reflective sheen of the glossy plastic seemed to shimmer and warp, twisting what he saw into something out of a nightmare. The PS4's shell began to buckle and creak as the mysterious device rose up out of its packaging and began to hover several feet off the floor. The levitating console slowly began to rotate as the spreading cracks on its surface gave way to brilliant pulses of azure light. The walls of the living room bowed inwards as PS4's silent din intensified, seeming to draw space itself darkened core. The Wise Old Man attempted to run for his life, but his feet failed to find purchase as the console's vacuum pulled him across the room into the thrumming mass of mangled debris that now dazzled the eyes with a lightshow of Cherenkov radiation.

Suddenly, all was silent. The Wise Old Man, his house, the PS4, and every trace of matter within a radius of exactly 100 yards simply ceased to exist. Sony had sought to create the most powerful console ever made, and they succeeded.

Seriously, what are the recorded temperatures for each console? Because I get the impression it's less "PS4 must be running hotter" and more "sometimes simplest IS best." PS4 goes in brute force with fast RAM and a powerful CPU/GPU, while the XB1 decided to try to make 8 GB of slower RAM work better with a pool of super fast RAM right on the CPU/GPU chip, and needed to shrink the space that part took up and put a huge heatsink on so it wouldn't burn out. It's like the Indiana Jones fight scene if anything, where flashy sword moves get trumped by a single bullet.

If we all agree that a dependable purchase that delivers entertainment for a solid 10 years is preferable then I think the xboxone is the safer bet. I still have my G1 xbox 360. Never broke on me once.
