Media Create Sales: Week 6, 2014 (Feb 03 - Feb 09)

As opposed to ¥60,000(ps3)? Yes. The Wii U started at ¥35,000 btw.

Basic model was ¥50.000. If someone was so desperate to buy PS3 and couldn't afford premium there was the cheaper option.

Even with the lower price without the proper software PS4 hardware will fall sharply the weeks after launch.

Ah, I forgot about the 20GB. More gimped than basic and sold considerably less. I'd agree that sales will most likely fall. I just dont think that it's long term prospects are bad because the games WILL be there. Even if it's next year.

Surprised no one pointed out that Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed was announced for Wii U and PS3 in Japan for May 15th and Monster Hunter Frontier GG was announced for Wii U, 360, and PS3 for April 23rd. Both via Famitsu.

Or maybe there's an error, I'm just seeing this:

The first name is for the original SASAR, but everyone else including Famitsu's site says it's Transformed:

http://www.famitsu.com/news/201402/13047996.html

If so, wow. A non-Japanese Sonic game seeing release in Japan is a rare event. Out of the big console titles (excluding "Japanese developers in US" like Sonic Adventure 2), I think the last one was... Sonic 3D Blast for the Saturn, released two days before Sonic Adventure DC was. Sonic Chronicles was supposed to see translation and release, but it never did.

Sumo have got to be proud of what they've made.

If they are doing a multiplat, it'd do better on the 3ds.

Battride War 2 is a sequel to a PS3 game. I don't think 3DS was ever an option for a multi-platform followup, especially since Bandai Namco has already done a 3DS exclusive Kamen Rider.

Regarding the 3DS. I think that the system's in a weird place. There's social and smartphone games holding the casual audience. There's the Vita beginning to lock down the otaku audience, I guess the PS3 also has had such an audience for a while now.

*in Japan

also where in the world did you get your tag from

It's from Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail. Why he has that tag I do not know.

Last 2 days of my trip in Tokyo.
Just bought the Wii u big pack (Wii party - Wii Fit u - Nsmb u +fit meter for 33400 yens) and Donkey Kong Tropical freeze for only 4980 yens.(ah and Taiko u too) Bought all my 3ds games too on the store named medialand in Akihabara behind the m's building (all the Inazuma 11 games at 980 yens for each lol)
All stores make big pubs for dqm and puyopuyo tetris.

There isn't a lot of hype on the hardware aand the major of software unfortunately. Tokyo metro: 90% were playing on their iPhone 5 (seen a lot of pazudora)

There are a lot of dktf Wii u available. I don't think it will sell 50% of the first stock this week.

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Sonic, MH and Kamen Raider? 3 titles in just one week? That's as many games announced for PS4 in the last 5 months!!!

Unfortunately, I'm not joking XD

MH for Wii U was annouced months ago.

It seems that, yesterday, MHFGG was announced for PS3, 360 and Wii U

do western games from japanese publishers count as japanese support?

Eh, I was more talking about Japanese games from Japanese publishers and confirmed to be released in Japan. Still, since we're at this, what are the Western games from Japanese publishers announced for PS4 in Japan so far?

COD: Ghosts? Tomb Raider? Who's publishing ACIV?
With NSMBU+LU packed into the box and 3D World just being released, a 3rd platformer in the mix seems like a terrible idea. I still think it will sell 200k eventually though.
I expect something similar, like a 70% drop in opening, so around 50K, with an eventual 80%+ drop from the past console game's LTD.
I doubt that the console will go as low as 5,000 units sold in a week this year.
Good luck with that prediction...

Not actually that important
Its sad that LoZ ALBW, which is better than any of the DS games is struggling to reach even 400k.

Well, PH was phenomenally popular in Japan, it's actually the fifth best selling title in the series, just behind OOT.

They should have released it befor ethe holiday season if possible - not at the end. But it is outperforming the Minish Cap ......right ?

By a pretty wide margin.
It has actually just passed the Oracle games.

Japan is now a place where people like to game on devices half that price or play f2p games so I guess one could call that expensive.

Cheaper alternatives always exist but that still doesn't mean that PS4 at 40.000 yen is seen as expensive as again that depends on each persons standards .

JP news for the Wii U in the Direct today from what I could gather:
  • Look like Just Dance will hit Wii U in Japan on 4/3 (4700Yen)
  • NES Remix 1&2 retail will be released 4/24 (2858 Yen).
  • Sonic All Stars Transformed 5/15 (about 2 weeks before Mario Kart 8).
  • GBA VC games on Wii U in JP 4/3.
  • New "Wii Sports Club" SKU for Wii U (includes Tennis, Bowling, and Golf) - 30,000 Yen (also has a Wii remote)
  • Mario Kart 8 releases 5/29/2014

So this is the Wii U retail release schedule starting today so far?
2/13 - Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
March - Wii Sports Club Wii U SKU
4/3 - Just Dance Wii U
4/24 - NES Remix 1 & 2 Retail Version
5/15 - Sonic All Stars Transformed
5/29 - Mario Kart 8
6/26 - Kamen Rider: Battride War II

Did I miss anything? Is there nothing in March for the Wii U in Japan either?

I guess it looks better than the US release list for the Wii U in some ways...

Thoughts anyone? I personally think that it's a bit weird to release Sonic right before Mario Kart, but maybe it'll work out in some weird way. Basically I'm not sure why people would buy two racing games back to back.

Ok, this is going to be brutal, if predictions about DK are right, then we are looking for a new baseline.

Why would it be much lower than last year? In this same time frame last year what did the Wii U have? DQX Wii U along w/ Game & Wario. Eventually an RE:Revelations port? That was pretty much it until Pikmin 3 + Luigi U in June right?

Call me naive but I think DKC will sell more than both DQX (Wii U version) and Game & Wario did combined.

It's grim for sure, but I don't know if I would say it will be worse than last year. At least Super Mario 3D world has slightly better legs than NSMB U.

So like 65K first week? Normally that wouldn't really be out of the question, but we'll see... I still think the list above sucks, but is still better than last year's Japanese Wii U lineup. The big problem to me is the complete gap from DKC until April.

Hm ok... but like how large was the shipment though?

Haven't see any info yet but must be not small IMO. The thing is weather is very bad today and weekends (not a heat wave joke but literary it is snowing heavily, to the point it may stop some transportation). Well it should have some leg so that may not have much overall effect after all.

04./06. [3DS] Yo-kai Watch <RPG> (Level 5) {2013.07.11} (¥4.800) - 28.407 / 401.606 (+3%)

The sequel is gonna set the charts on fire.

100k in 20 weeks, meaning 5k average per week. Yeah, not gonna happen
Golden week and digital sales (even if its not much), 500k should be possible.

Could somebody tell me why there is a price variation on the new PS4 software? I thought all disks are made equal.
40k is alot when the software isn't there, still it should sell better than the PS3 did initially, especially with the lower base price and the better reception seen in the west, not sure if it'll offset the general market decline to a significant degree though.

Thoughts anyone? I personally think that it's a bit weird to release Sonic right before Mario Kart, but maybe it'll work out in some weird way. Basically I'm not sure why people would buy two racing games back to back.
Mario Kart is so bloody late, you'd think they want to release that before these third party games to improve the userbase. Still with the health of the Wii U and the release schedule, nothing much can be done to create momentum in a sustainable way. I'm pretty worried how well MK8 will sell, we've seen with MK7 how the weekly hardware sales has limited its sales potential. It'll clear 1M relatively quick but I see the game struggling towards the 2M barrier. I see SSB outselling previous entries though, if only because of the 3DS version existing.

Golden Week is too far and sales will be dead by then with the rate they drop, there isn't overshipment so that retailers slash the price and give the impression of legs.

Right now 500k looks a good estimate for LTD.

As for Wii U and another amazing Direct for it it's pretty obvious Nintendo is removing / will remove resources away from it.

Heh, what happened here ? :p

Anyway, i agree Although i expect that , like currently in the west The console will sell on potential alone for a while even if software is lacking and at that price .

PS4 will be interesting. If the supply/demand situation is similar to the west, it's possible that we'll see wildly fluctuating PS4 numbers every week depending on stock.

Which will lead to people calling doom one week and declaring it the new king the week after

To follow up my commentary on why I don't feel the 3DS can sit around forever, here is how it's doing in the US. I note this because the US was the market the DS lasted the longest in terms of having good sales.

I don't have the LTD, but I have the monthlies:
Code:
        3DS 2013 PSP 2007 NDS 2007
January 145 211 239
February 189 176 485
March 230 180 509
April 113 183 471

October 452 286 458
November 770 567 1530
December 1100 1060 2470
            3838 3824 8430

        3DS 2014 PSP 2008 NDS 2008
January 97 230 251
February 243 587
March 297 698
April 193 415
May 182 452
June 337 783
July 222 608
August 253 518
September 238 537
October 193 491
November 421 1570
December 1020 3040
                97 3829 9950

In isolation it's down a normalized 17% this year as of the end of January which is less bad than 44.4% in Japan, but it's starting at a low number and is way below the PSP's equivalent timeframe before we even begin to discuss the DS.

If I'm not mistaken, it's a Nico Nico Douga (Japanese YouTube equivalent) app. I don't now what that thing with the people on the streets is about, maybe an included game where you play as a marketer for uploaded videos?

Yes, as far as I understand SUREMA (SUREchigai = Streetpass ; Marketing) is a streetpass function of the NicoNico app. You can mark videos or communities you want to share and streetpass them around.
Additionally, your steps taken while sharing are uploaded and compiled into a daily ranking accessible from web/smartphones so you can promote your video through effort even if you can't get many streetpasses.
