Give us a new Singstar sony, please! The casuals will eat it up!

I want guitar hero. I know Activision crushed the franchise with like 6 games in a year or something stupid, but I'd like a next gen Guitar Hero.

yeah...good luck

Actually some larger GDDR5 chips will be available shortly which would drop the BoM quite significantly and of course yields improve over time for the APU. An early PS4 price cut isn't out of the question as the console will become cheaper to manufacture quite quickly. Though personally I think the first price cut will depend on the PS+ attach rate.

I could see a $499 TF bundle that includes 3 months of live. That would move some units
Metal Gear Solid 4 bumped PS3 console sales (notably) for one month. I really can't see Titanfall doing better (multiplatform, not a visual splendor, new MP-only ip).

Oh I don't see TF saving the XB1 in any form of course. Just that TF as it stands isn't that compelling to sell XB1's and it's best chance to do that is in a special bundle

Yeah and that was a PS3 exclusive. I don't see a multiplatform MP only game move that many units tbh. I think most people who are dying to play it on xbone already got one.

Never understood the hype behind Titanfall. This hardly seems like a repeat of the Gears of War situation. Back in 2006, Gears of War came out as an innovative TPS with cover-based mechanics and ground-breaking console graphics. When you put it up against the $600 PS3 with inferior graphics, no achievements, and Resistance: Fall of Man as the main draw, one could easily argue Gears of War was a killer app. But what's the killer status behind Titanfall? It will launch in March (not the holiday season). It missed the launch window and will already be out of the picture by Q4 when COD, Battlefield, and Destiny launch. Most people I know (yes, anecdotal evidence) haven't even heard of it. And it's hardly a graphical spectacle.

I'm sure Titanfall will sell strong numbers and it may even sell a decent number of consoles, but I doubt it'll make much of a dent in the system's sales trajectory.

There are two other big differences:
  1. To play Gears of War, you needed to buy an Xbox 360. To play Titanfall, you can just keep a console from last generation ... the Xbox 360.
  2. Gears of War had a very fun single-player campaign as well as multiplayer.

Exclusive, and a sequel to well known IP. Titanfall is a completely new IP, on three platforms, that requires a subscription to play on two of those platforms. I really don't see Titanfall shifting Xbones at all.

I think it will shift some units. There are enough people who believe that Titanfall is exclusive to Xbox One and Xbox One only.

The question is: how many units will it shift?

PGR and Oblivion was great but Gears of War was to me the first true next-gen game in that period. It was notably better looking than other games.

It'll move some XBones but there is a huge chunk of the market that doesn't like FPS online MP games.

Good numbers. I prefer a market leader be based on an actual good product rather than just hype or marketing.

As an aside to some of the early responses in this thread. I dont see how TF is going to save MS. Halo 3 only gave the 360 a small bump in its release month 300k+ and it was a true exclusive and a known IP. No single game usually alters the landscape for a console. It is an overall package.

Agreed. I wouldn't really be shocked if there was a small to moderate uptick for March, but I can't see it having a huge impact. My guess is that most people who are interested in Titanfall have already picked up an Xbone or plan on playing on another system.

It get's crossed off the chalkboard and we add something else like E3 or pricecut.

Well...

It's pretty crazy how similar it sounds to the Wii U, lol

If Mario, one of the biggest franchises (if not the biggest) couldn't turn the Wii U around, I don't see why people expect Titanfall to do that for the X1. Much like 3D World, it'll sell well, have a good attach rate, and boost console sales for a few weeks but it'll go back to normal quickly

5.3 million and it hasn't even launched in Japan (not that I think that will contribute amazingly to the sales or anything).

I am crossing my finger that this trajectory can be maintained, because Sony has shown when you put gamers first you are rewarded. And that's a lesson I want people in this industry to always remember. Consumers are first.

Fantastic, didn't know we had one, we can cross out NFL deal can't we? that's already ongoing I believe, in fact the season is over, or is it starting properly next season?

Hmm while most agree the NFL deal has done F*ck all to move XB1's, it's a 5 year deal and the XB1 was released what 2 months into the season? We can save that for next superbowl to cross off

Yes, definitely, if it's Fantasy football related we should certainly wait until after the draft at the bare minimum.

No one is coughing up a $500 piece of hardware to give them a cool fantasy football experience. Its a nice add-on but not a system seller

The problem with the XB1 chalkboard is that it isn't based in reality. At least i've never heard anyone saying Sunset overdrive or Kinect Sports will save the XB1. It seems like they just put stuff there to fill the board.

Nor is it in need of saving.

6 months from now, if it's selling sub 100k consistently (like the dead console) , we can bring out the chalk board.

If it's selling 150k consistently that's cause for concern, because North America is really the only territory left in which they're selling hefty allotments at all, even the UK is far behind. That's not a sustainable trajectory for a platform at this level. I'm not saying it's over for them, so many things left that can change the course... but one must be realistic. They need to ensure there is something like momentum for the platform. They have Titanfall, but if that fails a new strategy is warranted. And yes, that wouldn't be too early to say that.

A lot of filler but I have seen price drop, kinectless, Titanfall, and tier 2 countries mentioned.

Kinect Sports is a major Kinect game, and it's mainly to get Wii crowd.

And it looks MS are banking on Sunset Overdrive, according to ntkrnl SO will be bundled with xbone in Oct.

Where does the idea come from that the PS4 won't sell well in Japan? Is it the economy, or the small population? Or is that players have made the transition to smartphones/portable devices?

The console market has shown a clear and consistent downward trajectory in Japan. It's difficult to imagine the PS4 will be the thing to change that.

Honestly, after playing, I don't really understand the hype either. I've played for maybe two hours and I find it extremely repetitive. Obviously, the beta is a small part of the actual game but what I find repetitive is the gameplay itself. The Titans are awesome, the wall jumping/jetpacks are really cool and the whole pilot/titan dynamic is interesting. Unfortunately, for me, it got old really fast. I am ready to go back to the bf4. For Microsoft's sake, I hope this game is a huge system seller but I just don't see it happening.

As far as the ps4 sales numbers go...mind blown. Seeing a console sell that many units in it's first few months is really exciting. I can't wait to see what happens this year and next. With titles like Infamous, The Order and several hard hitting third party titles, I don't see an excess of systems sitting on store shelves anytime soon. As much as I hate to say this, I am already considering selling my x1 and picking up a ps4.

Is SO suppose to be free to play?

There are zero huge multiplatform/exclusive games getting released anytime soon, unlike in the west. So unless the PS4 ends with an attach rate of 0.2 games in the first few months or Yakuza Isshin, FFXIV and MGS:GZ pull unbelievable numbers, the hardware can't possibly sell good after launch.

People are just being realistic.

PS4's been available for around 3 months and is already about to surpass the Wii U, which has been around for 2 years. Goddamn.

The Wii U has been around for one year and three months. Not exactly two years :p

But yeah, quite embarrassing for Nintendo. Especially coming from the successful Wii. So far the biggest popularity drop in console history.

I would say it depends what defines "consistently" and I would also say it's important to see how it's doing relatively to Sony.

For consistently, is it only 2 or 3 poor months, or 4+?

January was horrific for MS. I expect February to be much the same. But I think March will be better. But if April and May comeback to Jan levels, then they better be ready to be very aggressive with price.

I don't think they need to panic yet, but I'm sure they will be sweating March sales.

I mean consistently as in during most non-Christmas holiday months (October, November, December). If it settles into a routine of hitting 150k or less every month, I'd say that becomes a major problem for a console that increasingly has virtually no foothold in the rest of the world versus its primary competitor. It has got to ensure it does not fall into such a rut in North America.

I think during March it'll probably hit 250k at least thanks to Titanfall, but they must maintain those sales to be out of this water. And at that price, with the value considerations going on right now in the press and amongst gamers, there's a real probability it won't be maintained.
