Ikaruga (PC) |OT| Even though the resolution is high, I never give in.

Whats the general consensus on the best shmup joystick Seimitsu LS-56 ?
I might dust off my TE stick and mod it for this.

Awesome stick for shmups! Although I'm quite curious about the new Hori Hayabusa. Can't order it though because I'm not in the US or Japan.

I think this game follows from radiant silvergun, but that game didn't seem to philosophical at all haha
The speeches that play in the backdrop while fighting the Stone-Like are rather pretentious metaphors for the state of the video game industry.

Wtf this game is playing at turbo speed for me or something. The music is getting way off-sync from where it's supposed to be.

EDIT: Fullscreen mode just seems broken. Some of you guys are getting input lag in it, while for me the game is just playing at a way too fast speed. I've tried a lot of different screen resolutions in both modes and that doesn't seem to have an effect on it.

EDIT 2: OK, to fix this in Nvidia Control Panel, set vsync to on and maximum pre-rendered frames to 0 to minimize input lag while retaining the proper game speed in fullscreen mode.

Not really feeling it so far and oh so hoping I would. There is so much bullet hell and so many obstacles that it does not seem to matter if your absorb or reverse. You just get overwhelmed too easily.

Will come back to it later, but for now, kind of disappointed.

Pro-tip: Dont try to kill everything. Sometimes you just need to absorb and dodge what you can.

I just spent a good 45 minutes with my computer the same way. It's so much better than the tiny cropped window. I'm not noticing any lag though in full screen mode, at least not enough to noticeably make me worse than I already am. I'm using a Hori FE for 360. Is there an easy way to objectively test the amount of input lag I'm getting?

I almost threw my PC through the window.

Finally beat boss 2, had a good score going...then I get into Chapter 3 and run dead into a wall with 0 lives left.

Alas...Ikaruga is going.

EDIT: Full screen mode seems just fine for me. Playing on a normal 1080p LCD monitor via HDMI. Using Dual Shock 3 controller via that download that fools the PC into thinking its a 360 controller.

So excited about this release. I haven't played through the game in way too long... I think the last time was in 2006!

Works fine on a Surface Pro 1, if anybody's wondering.

Couldn't get X360ce to work with my Saturn pad but thankfully joytokey came to the rescue.

Aghh, Treasure, why did you have to encrypt datafiles... You even used the same archive format as in Sin and Punishment 2.
Bollocks, unless someone cracks it, no music rip from the game. :\

Also, where's my hori game mode you promised? You can rotate the screen, true, but I can't find the option for rotating controls anywhere.

lol, makes threads like this seems silly in retrospect
Someone necro it!

With any luck, Cave will pull its head out of its ass and realize that mobile ports aren't its only shot at staying alive and afloat. Perhaps if Ikaruga does very well for Treasure, we'll see ports of Cave shmups.

Also hoping that Treasure's other greatest works receive ports (Gradius V, damn it!).
Doesn't Sega own (or something) Cave now? I'm sure at least that Cave went under for that very reason... they were banking on people importing 360 titles and spending $10+ on iOS, not things that are widely done in the gaming community.

I'm equal parts rusty as shit, tired as shit, and just plain old shit - I messed up my patterns enough to die at the first boss 3 times in a row.

Time to put my head in an oven for the night in shame. God I love this game.

Just bought the game!

Add me up if you're interested! :)

Where do you buy those Saturn USB pads? I've been all over the internets for this

Pretty sure you'd need a time machine (or buy one second hand), unless you're ok with bootlegs of course. :(
Here's what I did. I bought a cheapo bootleg Saturn pad from eBay (it was white and had coloured buttons), then bought a broken legit Saturn pad, also from eBay.

I then took the internals from the bootleg USB pad and shoved them into the shell of the legit Saturn pad. Almost fits like a glove! I had to put some padding on the insides of the shoulder buttons so they could register contacts, but basically that's it.

That's a good idea!

Considering getting an original controller with an adapter. Any experience with this?

Nice to know. It would be nice adding this to the OP :)
Any way to do the same with AMD cards/drivers, IIRC it does not have this setting ?
I am thinking this might be useful to use with some other games, too ...

@Roboleon : well, be wary of bad adapters. Many are fine, both some add noticeable input lag. There are a few sources which should help you choose (I remember Shoryuken had a very good thread about this, 'though I couldn't find it anymore after their forum change. There might be others)

No personal experience but like Ouiouiba mentioned, I've heard that some adapters have lag input issues. I originally wanted to get one but eventually decided to mod a USB one instead.

Now if only we could get Radiant Silvergun (PC) to go along with Ikaruga.
Am confident it will come soon. It was hinted on by Treasure recently.

Bought the game, it's great, waited like 10 years for it (never owned DC, GC or X360). I didn't notice any input lag on fullscreen but there's a bigger problem - Ikaruga as of now has always-online DRM, it's not one of those Steam games you can launch without the internet connection, unless you start it first and then lose connection. Hopefully Treasure will fix this, as it might as well be a bug in steam_api.dll, just like with MGR Revengeance.

Used to have a US Gamecube copy of Ikarga, but had to sell it as the Freeloader disc didnt work with the Wii. Managed to track down a UK version and fell in love with it :)
Eventually I did beat the game on Easy!

Thank you, I have bookmarked your post for future reference, I can't wait to try this out on my BenQ XL2411T!

I'd like to add that this is a good idea in general for games which soffer from render buffering related input lag.

Are you familiar with Mayflash' adapters? I'm very pleased with the Wii U Pro adapter, and I see they have a SS adapter as well

Oh god don't watch any of the top scoring replays. Just don't. That shit is just bonkers. How the fuck do they keep a chain for the entire stage, maximize damage output and dodge at the same time?

These are the guys who've played the game since GameCube. They know the ins and outs and timings.

Its an exact port so they're basically at home

I think it takes a bit too long to go from one attempt to another, there should be something like a restart option at the end or did I miss one?

GameCube wasn't even the first release, dude. Some of these dudes have played since it was an arcade game/Dreamcast game.

Do you know if there's an option like that for TeamRed?
I *think* it's the same as setting "Flip Queue Size" to 1 and using dynamic vsync in RadeonPro. If you haven't used RP before, I highly recommend it!

PS. One crazy thing I just remembered about the original DC Ikaruga: I remember as soon as I realised I was never going to have it for DC (at least 10 years ago), I downloaded it over a 512kbps connection and it was only 20MB. How in the hell did they pack the game in so damn small? Obviously it's arcade heritage helped, but even then I'm pretty sure it ran off Naomi hardware so storage wouldn't have been an issue. Nuts.
(if this sort of talk is still frowned upon, let me know and I'll ditch it immediately... just thought it was an interesting anecdote)

I ripped the Dreamcast version to my PC myself ages ago. Unpacked, the game data comes out to 35.2 MB plus an extra 11.2 MB for the bonus content (wallpapers) on the CD data track.
