New Sakaguchi RPG for Xbox One? [Up: Nope]

Give it a few years, and those developers will probably join GAF's servers ...

Iwata is desperate, so I can see why Nintendo would fund another Sakaguchi flop, but Microsoft? The company's actions with Xbox One have been so focused on the Anglosphere that I don't under why they'd bother with this. Japan isn't going to care, and I kind of doubt a large amount of western JRPG players will either. It also goes against what they're funding in that country. Over the past four or so years, they've only been picking up really low budget stuff.

With Sony and Nintendo wavering slightly in Japan, maybe MS sees this as a chance to make a bit more headway? Also, having more Japanese developers on board is not just aiming at Japanese markets.

Buying a $400 or $500 system for a single game is crazy.

My comment was to posts along the lines of "I had no interest before but NOW!!!"

That doesn't mean they will never play any other game on that system, but there's frequently one game that makes you "jump in" because it makes you think "well, now it's worth it !". Basically what we know as a "system seller".

lol They wont, mainly because the consumer base wont get behind it. they have been burned twice now with the other 2 previous versions and with how the XBO is not only larger but more expensive doubt folks will really want one.

They are going to have to bring some big guns to the table if they really want to win folks over and I doubt MS is willing to spend that much money considering what happened last gen.

I'm not falling for this one again.

Very few JRPGs would sell me on a platform, and as much as I liked Vesperia and Lost Odyssey, the subsequent abandonment by developers stung, even if it wasn't unexpected.

Yup. One of the main reasons I didnt get an xbox one at launch. If they do bring jrpgs exclusive to the platform that are worth playing i will pick everything up later at a heavily discounted price.

First I've heard of it. Kinda solidifies my thought that Senjutsu is a shill if he knows about this.

The bar is really that low eh? It's called begging, my friend. Shameless begging. Kinda like what I've been doing for quite some time via twitter in hopes of getting some kind of response from Phil, and maybe he finally decided to have a little fun with the subject lol. If this somehow ends up being true, and that in turn makes me a shill, then I will wear the label like a badge of honor. Sakaguchi is my favorite developer, and so to borrow a bit from TLC, I ain't too proud to beg for another one of his amazing games. :D

Also, Tuesday, if this is accurate doesn't have to be this coming Tuesday, which I'm sure is part of the joke here. Microsoft's E3 press conference last year was June 10th. June 10th this year falls on... a Tuesday! So, that's what I'm quietly clinging my hopes to right now. There's no way I actually believe we're going to hear about a potential new Sakaguchi JRPG this coming Tuesday, but I would sure love to be wrong. Please, please be wrong. And, hey, Phil could have just been telling me exactly what I wanted to hear, because I've been nagging about it so much. But it's a lot better than an outright dismissal of the idea, that's for sure. :)

In other words...

I only own a xbox 360 now because of blue dragon and lost odyssey. There's no other reason that I purchased one, those two games are it. Sure it stung not seeing follow ups, but I was still never disappointed with my purchase, because they they were absolutely worth it in my eyes.

My post was not about LO, it was about the assertion that half a million is a "bomba" for an RPG. Not sure if you read the post I quoted and the one he quoted or not.

Yeah, it's a mistake on my part. I read it,but somehow it meant something else while I was processing it.

well it's not like Sakaguchi has anything better to do.

but this seems like a joke. Doesn't really seem like a type of game MS would spend money on nowadays. Or anyone really

Yea this seems like a joke, and people are taking it too seriously though I typically despise MS in general It would make me consider picking up an xbox one cheap espicially if there are some more good classic Rare IPs used

Jrpg are not system sellers any longer, and they haven't been for ages. That aside, who would fall for anything after last gen and the late ports debacle? You can only pull that kind of trick once.

Hopefully it's multiplatform :D.

I don't really see microsoft spending millions on a JRPG.

Are you sure about that?

I can list more than three PS3 exclusive JRPG's. Demon Souls, Tales of Xilia, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, Tales of Xilia 2, Tales of Graces F, Final Fantasy X HD and I am sure there are more.

Don't forget Ni No Kuni

A JRPG exclusive on Xbox one? They still think they have a chance in Japan? Anyways this is cool for xbox fans. But please Sony make some effort to bring some JRPG to the PS4 too.
The west loves JRPGs as well. They don't have a chance in Japan games like phantom dust and lost odyssey will be well received and may push gamers over the edge to get an Xbox one.

But it was Microsoft's money, not Mistwalker.

And that means what?

Like I said, if this is the mindset of Mistwalker or Platinum or any other company, they are done. With no market saturation of the actual product, you will be able to develop all day and night but you will never have a successful product. Not if you keep releasing to a fanbase where 99% of the userbase could give a rats ass about your product. There is a reason why franchises like Demons Souls can thrive on the Playstation platform, and always has been able to, because the userbase is much more receptive of unique experiences.

Anyway, Microsoft pushed VERY hard to get saturation with Japan with the 360.

Mistalker 2 exclusive RPG's
Panzar Dragoon Orta
Viva Pinata
Project Silpheed game
Dead Rising

List goes on. They managed barely 2,000,000 sales over 8 years in Japan with all that effort and money pumped into the process. With MS falling behind even in the US, I would find it hard to believe that 1 ... a Japanese developer would send their product already into a userbase that has proven it is not receptive to your type of product, but also 2 a userbase that is much smaller then the competitions and could be much worse by the time your product releases. And even beyond that, it is hard to believe MS would pump in mega resources to Japan when it is losing ground and marketshare in the US

I just don't see it myself. Could be wrong. Hope not though.

"humor me"

"Tuesday..."

He's not being serious guys.

Though Sakaguchi would make another game for Xbox if MS funded it.

And that is the nail folks lol. He was asking to be humored, Phil responded with humor.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Goddamnit. Don't make me buy an Xbox again just for a Mistwalker game again.

Here's hoping it ends up being Last Story II, with an HD-remake of the original.

Are you saying you hope the last story 2 is on the xbone with a HD remake on it or are you saying you want it in general because the first one is impossible.

I hate to kill your hopes, but it had to be done.

This year's E3 starts on the 10th. All major press conferences happen before E3, so Tuesday is out.

You'd have better luck hoping for next week instead of at E3 for that Tuesday.

If MS keeps it coming for a few years with these AAA exclusives they are gonna sell a shit ton of Xbox ones. Lost odyssey in 2014 or 2015 would be the best gaming news for me in a while. If sakaguchi keeps lost odyssey coming on Xbox one we some of us final fantasy fans up to 9 will be satisfied.

I'm skeptical. If they're making a random February announcement, TGS is a far better venue to at least show something . Heck, even GDC would work.
Less attention when making announcements among other announcements. Random Tuesday announcement. The internet eats it up.

For you, the day a new jrpg was announced for Xbox One was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

TGS is miles off. They need to start tempting people now with the promises of what is to come.

Next up...brand new Monster Hunter.

I don't think JRPGs are incredibly expensive for anyone except SE, and they do sell in the West to some degree, so I don't see why they wouldn't do another exclusive one for the XBO. MS really needs to step up with RPGs anyway now. Mass Effect sold systems back in 2007.

They've given up on Japan though. Perhaps they'll sell it there, but not in large numbers or with any major advertising.

I've played and loved Lost Odyssey, Last Story and Blue Dragon. I really hope MS moneyhats this since otherwise they probably wouldn't even make a console RPG again. These are exactly the kind of games I'm waiting for MS to announce as exclusives.

Didn't someone here tweet Phil a list of games that included Blue Dragon 2 and Lost Odyssey 2 and he said that they'd do a good job of getting a lot of those games taken care of over this generation?

It's a Tuesday but it's supporting the rediculous line up if games xbox one will feature. Currently outshining the Ps4. Games > power.

EDIT: I'm in no way saying power is not essential to winning this generation. But games are more important.

Didn't Dark Souls do big numbers on 360? And MS didn't try as hard as people made it seem, they had a couple of token exclusives but that's it. They took some spare change out of their pocket and threw it at Japan. And Mistwalker and Platinum will go to whoever funds their games, beggars can't be choosers. If MS wants to fund their games, who are they to say no? Who is going to fund their games if MS doesn't? Evey Platinum game is a bomb and the only work they can get at this point is MGR 2, and console JRPGs aren't as bog as they once were, no to mention that Sakaguchi hates Sony so he would never go to them. That just leaves Nintendo and Nintendo already has X. I also doubt that they are willing to fund anymore bombas after W1O1 and soon to be Bayonetta 2. Nintendo could find a Mistwalker 3DS game I guess.

Ahh damn :p Maybe he was just having some fun, but I love that there was no outright dismissal of the idea, which I think is a positive. I really don't want to get my hopes up too much for this coming Tuesday, but, still, even if nothing materializes this Tuesday, barring him saying he was just joking, and there's a very good chance that he was (since I was just hoping for any response at all), I now have a great deal of hope that this will actually become a reality. I play Sakaguchi's big releases wherever they are, but seeing as how he had a recent, and big, 2 game partnership with MS, I thought it was a good place to start. Plus, I would really enjoy seeing what he and his team do on a system as strong as the Xbox One.
