Xbox One price cut to £399 in the UK, includes free copy of Titanfall

Price drop this quick is a surprise but to also bundle a supposed system seller is shocking. I thought they were betting on TF to sell consoles, not give them away. I honestly did not expect this because MS has been bragging about being the fastest selling console for them.

Ms have been tossing down our throat that xboxone is selling in record numbers and way above 360 was here in the uk, the signs weren't there at all, sony just happened to be doing even better, this isn't an xbox 1 situation where it wasn't selling at all.

Do we know any numbers since launch though?

because The One had no games previously this big enough?
because The One was a little more expensive then?

TF is going to be big for MS, in US and UK. Sony has nothing to show for. PS4 has enjoyed the front loaded core gamers sales. Now is the time for dudebros to jump on board, and guess which one would they choose? I expect 3:1 in Mar and 1.5:1 going for the next few months.
PS4 didn't break records and continue outselling Xbox One with core gamers alone. This thing is now mainstream and the casuals are already jumping on board.

You do realise the 360 was insanely supply constrained for a very long time in the UK?

Selling 10 boxes per day would probably beat 360 numbers. Finding one was impossible.

I'm willing to bet a good amount of TF's potential audience already bought the console for it.

Not the way I remember it, apart from the small numbers available due to the worldwide launch I had no problem walking in and buying one that following March.

A very long time is not really true, a couple of months maybe.

3:1 in the UK and the US in March.

I look forward to seeing the sales numbers in April, I think you might be disappointed.

Not surprised at the price cut at all, just surprised that it's a cut of only £30. I don't think this Titanfall bundle will do much beyond an initial rush. £400 is still too expensive for a console.

Good move. Just getting into the 300 range and removing that 4 from the price makes it look cheaper to the average consumer alone.

It comes bundled with Kinect! They really love just cramming that in as a feature.

It wasn't hard to find, it had nothing on the wii shortage. In fact I'd say ps4 is harder to find in the weeks following launch than 360.

They will have to cut in NA now.
No one in the USA is going to buy the XB1 if they think MS will be slashing the price soon, and MS with this move is giving them the reason to think so.

Video games 101 cutting world wide at the same time is better than cutting single region at different times.

Has MS learned anything?

I agree with the price adjustment but it will have to be done in the USA now.

you overestimate most of our (Americans) ability to calculate a EU/USD currency exchange and to even pay attention or care what happens In EU. ....sadly.

and still most of the parents probably have Titanfall pre-ordered for the xbox 360, all of little timmy's friends don't have an Xbox One yet......why should little timmy upgrade when he can't play with them.

This is going to move a few units bundled.....but just from even listening to people who own the X1....most of them got the xbox for Halo....not Titanfall. Most of them that are getting Titanfall are getting it for the 360 because all there friends are still on that platform.

I don't think this is going to move as many units as people think.

Exchange rates are no concern to people buying a console in the NA, a price cut is a price cut plain and simple.
The justification to cut the price in the UK applies to NA also, we know that, people know that.
We know the console is underperforming WW. So because of that, logically, people in NA will most likely wait for their price adjustment now also, exchange rate be damned.

the uk was once a respectable outlet for sales, so imagine it must be pretty bad for microsoft to try and save it, but it says a lot that they want to save it at least. i doubt they'd try any other regions outside of america.

It's worth noting that while the price is here to stay , the free game isn't
GC: Do you have any idea how long stocks will last? I assume there’s a finite number you know you’ve got to give away?

HE: Yes, it’s a promotion that is while stocks last. What I would say is the people that want to take up this offer, I would strongly encourage them to pre-order as of today at participating retailers. But to give you a sense of order of magnitude, this is similar to what we did with the Day One consoles – which you’ll remember came with either FIFA 14 or Forza. So expect similar volumes as that promotion.

So £399 will become the new price for the console only after this promotion ends.

That's pretty much price parity with PS4 now, considering the bundled game.

Pretty damn fast for a price drop, but they need to make moves now if they're to have any chance in the UK or Europe at large. Europe is probably already lost, to be honest. Titanfall had better be good, is all I'll say.

Feel bad for the early adopters, as always.

The hardcore early adopters always end up bleeding for the privelage and suffering through the testing and patching/updating phases. This is par for course. However, they are moving down the course fairly rapidly to address some of the perceived issues. This can't be viewed as a bad thing right?

I mean it could be worse, they could just drop support entirely to cut costs...

Price parity with a PS4 and 1 game. and you also get kinect which you can put on ebay and get at least £50

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Xbox-One-...UK_Motion_Sensors_Cameras&hash=item20e01e2bbd

So that would make it £345 -350 if you sold kinect and titanfall for the same price as a PS4 and if you really wanted to prove a point you could sell the titanfall game code and get at least £40 making the console £305 - 310 making it the cheapest next gen console.

Not bad at all

"When Microsoft cut the price of the original Xbox in 2002 (for the same reason – sluggish sales) it offered two free games to early adopters and an extra controller. So far, there has been no such “thank you package”."

Yep, I need a thank you package. I'm not happy about this. It really is a fuck you to everyone who already bought a One.

The only thing you will get from MS is a fuck you package

I read this in the OP
"Titanfall is a game that has won more than 80 awards so far...."

Just to be clear, this isn't a mistake is it?

It sounds strange for an unreleased game to win more than 80 awards already.

They didn't support the Xbox 360, so why should Microsoft pander to them now?

Because MS are a business, not a 12 year old in a playground spat. Letting Sony go uncontested in markets that they are already very strong in just lets them lock down those territories, up their worldwide numbers and leaves Sony in a stronger bargaining position with third parties and MS in a weaker position.

When most of those awards are things like "best of e3" and "best game with mechs" from the press, it's just fancy numbers.

The fact you only get Titanfall at 399 for a limited time means that after awhile it will be 399 with no game.

Jumping to price parity statements is very premature.

PS4 (no game) & PS+ = 400

X1 (no game, after the Titanfall deal expires) & live = 450

Still £50 more expensive, still worse spec with inferior performing / looking 3rd party games.

Trying to increase their market share is "pandering" to them? Their brand wasn't as popular as the PS3, but I'm sure the people who bought an X1 this time around (even if they aren't as in large a quantity too qualify as "suppporting") would love a larger regional install base.

Mainly any price-cuts need to be world wide. Region specific just makes consumers wait for a price-cut you are inevitably forced to do.

All of which only works as long as nobody else does the same thing driving prices through the floor.

And from the point of view of selling the damn thing, the headline price is still higher than PS4 for a less powerful console. MS truly are the masters of too little too late this generation...

3:1 in the UK and the US in March.

I'll be genuinely surprised if the Xbone can outsell the PS4 in the US in March by more than 20%, never mind 200%. April, the burying resumes.
