Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 Review Thread

Wow, that are some harsh reviews. I already saw the trend to little more critical reviews with the end of the last gen but this game gets wrecked.

Sucks because I thought we had a new great AAA team in Mercury Steam. They came out of nowhere after their shitty Clive Barker shooter which name I can't remember.

wtf? Jericho was a great blast!

The Finnish Pelaaja-lehti gave it a 9/10, I think (or 8/10, but no lower than that). They know how to use the whole 1-10 scale and aren't usually too easy on games with their reviews. Seems weird there's this big of a disparity between reviews...

Clive Barker's Jericho.

I actually loved Jericho, to be honest. I know other people didn't really like it, but I pretty much completed that game in a single sitting.

I haven't played much of it but what I don't like: the stealth sections and the extra focus (hand holding?) when it comes to the platforming...which is kinda janky anyway. I don't remember it being this bad in LOS1.

re: the hand holding, it goes like this - you reach an area and the camera swoops and pans to the destination or some door, it focuses on that area for a good 5-10 seconds, then slowly makes its way back to you again.

Kind of takes the rhythm out of it, if there was any in the first place. And jumping gaps or any sort of jump feels like shit. It isn't fluid.

This series had so much potential after failed attempts to modernize castlevania. I hope they keep trying though.

With that said I give Konami direct access to my checking Acct if they made a proper 2D castlevania on ps4/xbone.

Nah, all the reviewers had to do with those reviews is just do some copying and pasting from their other Igavania reviews.

Yeah, but it seems this game isn't even good enough to copy and paste from God of War: Judgement or Rygar: The Legendary Adventure reviews...

Already purchased on Steam for 10% off and no tax... so no regrets. I was buying this game no matter what.

Jericho was their best game.

Looks like I barked up the wrong tree. Admittedly, I only played the PS3 demo which was really bad and based the rest on the unfavorable reviews the game got, so I may be wrong.

So it's worse than Thief for reviewers :D
Honestly I really don't know what to think.....I don't have a lot of faith in reviews. It seems like the new trend is to punish good games with a few flaws with stupidly low scores when the buzz around them is not really high, while still handing 9s and 10s for free to mega productions backed by huge publishers with big ads campaign.
I definetly want to try LoS2, but considering it's also a last gen game I will probably skip the full price.

Had no clue this was the team that did Clive Barker's Jericho. I actually enjoyed that game. I played the PC version though so don't know how bad the console version was. Still surprised people knock it to be honest. Found the switching between characters to be pretty interesting. It's not OMG amazing by any means though.

Reviews are mixed, not as bad as I expected. I'm still very excited to play this today, as I loved the first. I haven't been letting review averages dictate the games I play lately, and it's largely payed off.

Thank you GMG for letting me pick this game up for 42 bucks. I'm not surprised at the poor reviews given the late review embargo. If a publisher things reviews will spur preorders they will let the review out early, if they think it will hurt they will hold it back.

When people on Gaf defeat a stealth section in 3-4 mins while a certain review outlet took hours I just shake my head. Maybe needed more handholding for some people

Man, what happened? I was a huge fan of the first game but I'm probably going to last-minute-cancel my preorder of this. I never liked the modern day concept but it's too bad to hear that they also messed up the execution of it and many other things. :(

I'm still curious about that stealth section though and about whether many of these reviews are indeed heavily influenced by many reviewers inability to play a game that doesn't hold their hands. I've seen this so many times in recent years and it's a shame.

Posted this in the OT, but seems more relevant here:

I'd be interested to see how the first game would fare with reviewers if it were released today. Part of me thinks it would get similar scores. The review landscape seems far different than 3 and a half years ago.
