That's really bad number, no?
Nah, you have to remember that basically every PS4 shipped is sold. Even if its a small number it is basically the max possible.

We won't be able to read the market until supply finally outweighs demand.

Just got my PS4 with Killzone over the weekend.. already have an Xbox One with plenty of the multi plats.. can't wait for Second Son & #DriveClub whenever the finish that, just finished Killzone, while graphically beautiful, that story/character development was garbage

Wow.

Well, I got my PS4 y'day as well in anticipation of infamous. I have to say, PS4 has no games. Resogun is nice, but otherwise it is a barren wasteland. Strange that so many million ppl are buying.

It's about the future. You don't buy a console based on now but over time and over time PS4 will have the best line up.

Seems like MS and Nintendo are the only Console manufactures who took the "tablets hit".

Playstation is doing fine.

I just hope that console sales won't flatline after all the enthusiasts have gotten their unit.

Enthusiasts haven't even bought one yet, they're all acting nonchalant on forums waiting until the PS4 has the "must-have" game. It's the general public that are going mad for the PS4 that's why attachment rates aren't as high as the One which has the enthusiasts.

Pretty amazing pace so far, 6 million before March is unprecedented for units even produced, let alone sold.

I'm glad the one company that tried their hardest to make gaming hardware is being rewarded with success.

I completely agree with this. Glad to see the company that focused on games is rewarded for it with great sales numbers.

What.
Yeah, 6 million in 4 months with like no games then they're going to fall off a cliff.

That doesn't seem ludicrous at all.
I'm just saying it's way too soon. Like you said- 4 months. Way too soon to understand the trajectory of these boxes.

Let's wait another year or so before speculating on that kind of thing. It is easy to sell a few million units at launch to your hardcore fans. That is what is driving the PS4 demand, while consoles that went for mass market acceptance at launch (xb1 and Wii u) have underperformed.

Release a powerful console with no gimmicks at a reasonable price and it sells. Who would have thought?

Seriously. Sony was the only one of the big 3 that didn't take stupid pills before designing their new box. They simply made a powerful with a nice controller for $400 and everyone ate it up. Keep it simple stupid!

Very doubtful that it's in order. Ghosts is almost certainly the best selling game. I remember Activision mentioning that it was the best selling PS4 game at all major retailers in the US. And FIFA is usually the only game that's charting above it in Europe.

You mean Knack isn't the second best selling PS4 game? :(

Well, I am going to assume the PS4 is currently sold out in JP.
Remember, Sony still needed to split 3 ways of their 1.2M PS4 between NA/EU/JP during February.
And the 70k sold through on the 2nd day was the last batch of PS4 for JP until next month.

If you weren't the 370k gamers that reserved the console in JP, you probably won't get one and will have to wait in queue like the majority of everyone around the world just to preorder.

Remember guys, this 6.0 million is an estimate by SCEI.

It's not absolute hard numbers, and it's assuming that the vast majority of stock sold-in...promptly sold-through as the market is supply-constrained.

However, it's a pretty damn accurate estimate. SCEI spares no expense into making sure their PR is solid.

Fantastic job to everyone involved in SCE WWS.

Nothing! I said nothing!
Well done Sony. Generation is off to a great start for them.

Edit: I wonder what the number would have been if they were not supply constrained.

This doesn't surprise me. All the reasons I ignored the PS3 at launch were eradicated by Sony for the PS4 launch so one now sits in my AV rack. Simple business.

The reason it is sold out is because it appeals to a market broader than enthusiasts, ironically "enthusiasts" are the ones picky about games and are waiting for unique titles whereas more casual players are buying it with a copy of BF/COD/FIFA/Madden.

Conversely, Xbox One has had a hardcore go out and purchase it specifically for MS titles, leading to higher first party game sales than third party compared to PS4, and a drop off in sales post-christmas.

That's crazy.

not too crazy. This was a simultaneous ww launch, and the PS2 had staggered territory launches. They still had to produce a ton of units in less time then the PS2. So that part is impressive, and overall its doing excellent. I'm glad the market responded to a well designed, priced and vision of a gaming console.

Most people buy third party software. The only slowdown will be the typical one for summer and then the Destiny bump happens leading into the holiday season.

I couldn't disagree more.

Also- that's straight up speculation.

Really want to know what xbone is at . What was the last figure, 3.2 million? Guessing we won't hear from MS until after March when xbone will likely outsell ps4 for the month.
If PS4 outsells the Xbone during Titanfall's launch month, the blackboard will be needing a dust off.

Exactly. With the US/UK defecting from xbox, the trajectory is locked barring MAJOR changes (a SONY RROD, or xbox free in cereal boxes)

Well get a better picture 2-3 years out. Too soon to say, not even really disagreeing with you.

700 K from 8 Feb to 2 March, 370K Japan. This means 430K allocated for all other countries.

My guess: 200K US, 230K Europe+Asia.

Feb NPD Should be 200k + whatever units sold between 1-8 Feb (20k-30k) = 220k-230k.

Edit: Bad calculations.
