Metal Gear Informer: MGSV: GZ healing spray, length & footprints

One hundred hours of glorious Kojima gameplay a.k.a collecting the underwear of all 300 enemy soldiers while staying undetected in the process for the ultimate Platinum Trophy...

I wonder if the jumping is context-sensitive. Like there's no jump button and Snake only jumps on certain ledges. I hope not, but I heavily suspect that my hopes will be dashed.

From the videos it gives prompt to tap the action button near an edge to leap off. But it's not clear if he'll jump the same everywhere.

You will be able to walk around Mother Base according to Kojima.*

*In August 2012 in the same interview where he talked about a bunch of features which will only appear in The Phantom Pain.

When he said that we will be able to walk in Mother Base, TPP was not even announced.

Exactly. He said that before MGSV would be two seperate games. I wouldn't hold my breath for an explorable Mother Base in Ground Zeroes.

GZ takes place on an island, with the main story line focusing on the military base. other missions take place on other parts of the island.
uh.

pretty sure camp omega is the only playable area in ground zeroes.

and walking around mother base is obviously not in ground zeroes, batzi. come on. mother base has been relegated to an app until you get to
rebuild it
in tpp.

That's the point. He also talked about day-night cycles.

True. While the real-time cycle is not in GZ, some of the side-missions take place in daylight. Anyway, there is a cutscene showing Snake fighting at Mother Base, so I assume at some point during the main mission, we will have to travel back there hopefully a small portion of that will be playable.

Yeah, Kojima was definitely talking in code back then about Ground Zeroes so as to not spoil the full MGSV announcement. For example he had an interview where he talked about Ground Zeroes having taboos and might not sell, and whilst we have heard a couple controversial things in the game, I'm pretty confident he meant the Phantom Pain.

Also when Kojima said he was doing a presentation at GDC where most of it was about the MGSV: Phantom Pain reveal, he said it was a presentation and trailer about Ground Zeroes instead. And then like these guys have said, when he was talking about all the interesting features "Ground Zeroes" would have like Day/Night Cycle and Motherbase exploration, the former was announced as something only in Phantom Pain.

Also the GI guys seemed to shoot down the idea that Motherbase was playable. They said the mission is extract Chico, extract Paz, then a big cutscene and credits.

GZ = base management
TPP = more detailed base management + walk around your and your friends' bases

Can we pre-order the ps3 version on digital ?

Isn't the secret mission where you play like the old PS1 game is a preorder ?

I really hope the jump animation from the TGS build was improved. It looked weird, unlike the E3 trailer.

Looks the same to me, with the arms flailing. The problem with the TGS jumping was the landing. No rolling, no slipping, Snake just lands on his legs after falling from a considerable height and keeps running.

ITT:I almost read some untagged Peace Walker spoilers, so I'm leaving.

I've been enjoying playing through the PW HD version on PS3 over the last week...it's such a different game than the other main entries. The base management and mission setup is more interesting to me than I would have expected.

I'm looking forward to Ground Zeroes regardless.

I was actually referring to the landing, the TGS build had a weird landing simply because the impact of Snake's landing force on the ground had no particular physics to it as if he was floating on the ground when he landed.

Technically, you could spend tons of hours in a game if you really loved it. So that says nothing and even less that a playtester, that gets paid, did it.

Base management mini-game on tablets in GZ. You can Fulton people in GZ to be used in TPP.

There is no Fulton in GZ. Only TPP. In GZ, you extract prisoners by calling in a chopper and dropping the body on it. Of course you don't have to carry him/her yourself all the way to the chopper, you can use a vehicle to drive the prisoner to the helicopter.

The base management isn't exclusive to tablets, nor is the map functionality. The second screen stuff is just there for convenience for those that have the devices. And like Batzi said, there's prisoner recovery but it's not fulton style.

I know obviously stuff like the "map" on tablets is second screen and an extension of the main game, but I'd be pretty shocked if the motherbase management was anything more than a minigame added to the app. I'm sure playing it might unlock special benefits like maybe some items, but I doubt Ground Zeroes itself has base management, it just wouldn't make sense really when the first mission in the game is it being blown to smithereens.

Welp, just gotta keep that save data on your hdd for 9-12 months until Phantom pain is out to see if there are any unlocked bonuses lol

Point is that it's not in GZ outside of an app and the devices that run that app. It's not Fulton then, but you recover them.

Platinum, even the 35 hours chicken one. Just stupid.
That is a "I don't even have to play to get it" Trophy. Before going to bed, turn game on, go to area exit, sit underbox, turn tv off and go to bed. Wake up move to next area save and quit. Boom 8 hours and all you did was sleep. Repeat 4 nights in a row.

Landing animation seemed fine on the daytime gameplay demo though

If you jump down a two-story watchtower I think you'd have more momentum than a little squat. It's just silly seeing him jump down that height like he's jumping a small ledge.

I think the animation looks just fine, he absorves the landing impact with the whole body

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.
The worse culprit is TGS Day Demo where he jumps down a height of several feet, and lands directly on his legs without a roll.

It reminded me of Red Dead Redemption in terms of jumping animation awkwardness. A roll is needed.
Also when he jumps off the moving truck near the beginning. No forward momentum what so ever.

Pretty strange, considering he did have a forward roll after jumping off of his horse in the big E3 trailer.

All things considered TGS footage was obviously not the final build, E3 trailer was obviously not running on a console so hopefully none of this "lack of animation" will be a problem when the game comes out.

Snake leaves footprints in the mud, which can be spotted by guards. This is just one of the things that adds to the difficulty, other things include better fields of visions for guards, randomized patrol routes and search lights; there are many things that can give your position away.

Seriously, this needed to be pointed out? What's a stealth game or MGS one without such stuff? :/

I played Peace Walker this month, and all the MAIN OPS and enough EXTRA OPS to unlock all of ZEKE and the true ending took me 20 hours.

That's impressive, but I have a hard time believing that your play time reflects the average. There are a great deal of people who didn't even know the true ending existed.

Japanese devs still behind the curve in every respect possible, eh.

i still remember some interview where kojima talked about how the ps3 would allow them to incorporate realistic animations in the game. this was in, like, 2007 or something. the animations still look robotic, archaic; they could be from the ps2 titles. it's embarrassing.

...they're a little better than that, I'd say. The majority of animation is pretty solid.

I hope Kojima Productions works on this until TPP is out. The thing that stood out the most when it came to graphics and engine in MGS, was always the wonky animations. Its the only thing that Kojimas team couldnt do right in 15 years of the series.

Most animations in GZ look pretty damn good, especially considering how wonky they've been in past MGS games. The transitions between movements [from running to picking up something for example] are noticable though, which makes it look robotic.

It's mostly that absurd arm flailing that sticks out. I wonder if Kojima or his animators ever tried actually jumping like that. Seriously, try jumping off a ledge while flailing your arms like that.
