Why are people comparing two different bosses? Or do we think that they have been changed? Is it just speculation or what?

Could it be that there are two boss fights? Looking Glass knight and Mirror Knight? and in regards to the graphics... Are we really comparing Youtube videos of gameplay feeds to a trailer?

Honestly, kinda guessed it when I saw the initial footages. No way the past gen systems are going to have dynamic lighting that good.

I'll be double dipping the pc version anyway. I don't think people should honestly expect 2 to look that much better than 1.

Don't feel less hyped dude. I've been watching the stream and the game looks fine to me. Graphically it looks better than the previous Souls games. Not amazingly better, but noticeably better. And people are complaining about everything being grey and I've seen areas bathed in sunlight and rooms with walls lit up by fire as well as an area with that's got bright green lighting all over the place. It's not all grey and dull. People are over exaggerating.

I agree actually. When I saw
Majula
my jaw dropped. I wasn't expecting it to look like that.

I don't know much about the setup process involved in running a game stream, but could it be possible that the streamers aren't calibrating gama / colour / contrast output optimally?

I pesonally haven't watched any streams, so as not to spoil the game for myself, but perhaps this might account for the 'dull' 'flat' look some have mentioned?

It would be flabbergasting if the kind of dynamic lighting seen in the preview builds, and the network test are not in the finished game. Makes very little sense for such a heavily touted feature to be taken out.

It is indeed weird if the lighting system is missing, considering FromSoftware were touting it up as the big change in their new graphical engine. I'm curious to see what it looks like for myself. I've seen the lighting system in effect in the stream though, it was very noticeable and great. It wasn't in all the areas though.

It makes more sense that Mirror Knight became Looking Glass Knight the same way Silver Chariot Rider became Executioner's Chariot.

They happen in the same area as far as I can tell.

That said, I wouldn't put it past From after Asylum Demon, Stray Demon, and Demon Firesage.

Lol, it would be pretty funny if it ended up something like this. It's hard to imagine From Software would hype up a boss and then pull a complete switcheroo on it and even change the name and everything, especially when Mirror Knight was one of the things that everyone saw. They advertised that fight heavily.

We'll have to beat both Looking Glass Knight and Mirror Knight before we face the final boss Reflecto Knight, who stole the game's lighting and wasted it on extravagant demos.

The fight played out exactly the same as in the demo from a gameplay perspective, the room leading up to it was also identical in design.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be the same fight. It's still a cool fight regardless of the disappointing visual changes, the summoning stuff should be awesome once the game goes online!

so there was a reason why I didnt get hyped from the streams I poped in for a couple of minutes.

visuals and gameplay looked kinda boring.

Dang, it just doesn't make sense when they heavily advertised it and it was in the beta. I'm not that disappointed, it's more of just a big enigma as to why they changed it all of a sudden. I wonder if there were problems with the design that weren't visible to us. But it seems like the fight went smoothly for the beta testers.

Can someone who played the PS3 version confirm the downgrade?

I can confirm. I own the PS3 version and played the demo at Comic Con last summer and the difference is night and day. I'm not too bothered by it since the gameplay is what matters most to me.

If it bothers you, just light as many torches as you can for better lighting haha.

Man, this thread is really sad. I still can't believe people watch streams and spoil shit. Some people are just way too invested in this stuff. All this chat about lighting, downgraded graphics, etc. just from viewing someone else play the game? Is that what you're compelled to do before the launch of a game you're (were) excited for? Why not catch up on some of From's older catalog instead? I don't get it. I would have felt like such a boner back in the day if there were streams/videos of old King's Field games and I watched/critiqued them before I even got my hands on the game. I wasn't even fucking thinking about shit like that because those thoughts/concerns didn't even exist back then!

I still feel like modern social media has ruined most of the gaming community. There's too much exposure/information available before a game is released. I've found it so difficult to even want to talk about games with people anymore because of discussions like this. It sucks that you can't have real discussions with people anymore without knowing if they actually played the game or "watched" it on YouTube or some stupid streaming site.

Sorry that we want to know more about a game we're paying for?

Nah, the man/woman/transsexual has a point. It's not even a point exclusive to video games.

I miss mystery, too.

There is a difference between knowing about the game you're getting (seeing a couple of minutes of gameplay, reading reviews etc.) and watching the whole thing via stream or Let's Play.

I mean, it's there. Just avoid the streams and discussion. But there are options now. So everyone wins.

Heck, demon's souls has even less mystery due to the long delay between JP and western release.

Lol. :)

There is a point there to be had, but there's also a point in calling out publishers and developers for showing off games in a spectacular way, that ultimately gets downgraded before release. You could say that 'it's a work in progress!' However, this trend is far too common among publishers. Look no further than the recent Watch Dogs downgrade.

I'm not upset about it, actually; the original lighting looked awesome, but I was never in for that kind of stuff. I want a Souls game, and that's what I'm going to get.

Of course. Just saying the poster has a point. Waiting on a game pre-internet was a much less savage beast.

True, but if you ever believe advertising (which all that pre release stuff is) then you're a mug.

EDIT: I don't mean "you" specifically... Aaaah you know what I mean. :)

If this stuff is true, I bet it's the reason reviews are embargoed until launch day.

If this stuff is true, then all of those "FROM just wants you to double dip" accusations due to the PC delay are more than likely true. Given the option between the three versions, if the console versions are really that bad, nobody that could run it on PC would ever pick them.

Cannot believe FROM did not say anything. I am disappointed in you FROM. I thought I could trust you.

Here's hoping they didn't downgrade the visuals on PC so it looks similar only at higher res, in a bizarre attempt to not disrespect their console fanbase or whatever. I really wish they had kept the visuals from the first game and focused mostly on improving performance and adding a couple of bells and whistles if possible, it looked so beautiful, I loved the "photorealistic" and detailed look of it. Everything appears more cartoony and gamey/generic in the new one.

Dude, that has been the case for so many console to pc games now that I can tell you the overwhelming conclusion is that it really doesn't matter. Consoles are still a bulk of the game sale and pc will give a nice alternative avenue of income.

i remember buying FIFA 96 for the SNES.

man, i wish we had the internet back then, so people could have told me, how much it sucks.

You never bought a game pre-internet that exceeded your expectations?

I can tell you that Elite absolutely blew me away. Black and white wire mesh FTW :)

If back in the day i had known that CG=/=actual game i wouldn't have bought a lot of games.

Wasn't one game enough to tell you that?

of course.

but I like this times better.
you can know everything you will in advance.

bugs, graphics, gameplay, framerate, tearing and so on.

It has it's Pros and Cons. I think people's opinions tend to influence others a lot more, where once people would've been more tolerant of smaller problems.

I think an over abundance of easily available information is often mistaken for wisdom or intelligence.

My brother and I imported the Japanese version of Demon Souls before the game/series got "big" and it was such a weird/euphoric experience. We're old school From Software fans at heart, so the little talk that there was at the time of it being a "successor" to King's Field got the better of us. It was really cool playing the game at the time because NO ONE was talking about it. From hadn't acquired/reached their "mainstream" appeal/audience yet (it's still crazy to me that their games have made their way to media outlets like Spike TV, etc.), so it felt really raw and exciting. Honestly, I didn't know what to think of Demon's Souls at the time. As much as a fan I was of From, I was a little dumbfounded as to what I was playing. It took me a few months to acclimate myself with the game because it was so different compared to their usual offerings.

All of that mystique surrounding From's "Dark" RPGs is gone for us now, however, as there's too many eyes on their stuff, so to speak. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily, but it is what it is, I guess. I still love the Souls games and I'm looking forward to playing Dark Souls II (whenever I can make the time for it), but I ABSOLUTELY miss the days when gaming discussions didn't center around fucking YouTube clips and streaming sites.

Sometimes we're still tricked, and/or ignore the warning signs
