Sony Went "Back to the Drawing Board" with Driveclub

Maybe people should actually read the article before posting. It's a misleading, sensationalist headline taking Rhode's quote out of context, he's referring to the reason it was delayed in the first place and what the game was striving for.

Never quite understood the hype for this.

Only reason its being held back is due to Sony feeling comfy with the lead.

I'm assuming the talk in the thread, of it being a trojan horse for VR could be true now

Edit: or it could be shit

So a game that was delayed just a few weeks before launch, was supposed to even be partially be free on PS Plus, is now transitioning into possible vaporware. Crazy times.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Evolution is a dead studio walking.

Could had a Wipeout for PS4 launch chaps, but you closed the wrong studio and now this is the development hell shit you're left with.

Pretty sure the game hasn't been further delayed, it sounds like he is describing why they delayed it before november.

I guess they'res only a few smart ppl in this thread including yourself. Everyone else is just slow or have that low IQ.

Misleading thread title much? This is just further elaboration on the delay that we already know of, not a new or recent development. Also, 'going back to the drawing board' doesn't necesarily mean scrapping an entire project and starting over, as some people ITT seem to think; in this case he is probably just reffering to the reworking / re-evaluating of the game's social features, something which we have known about for a while now.

This. But hey, we need more drama.

The last quote though:

When pressed on if it would still come out sometime in 2014, Rohde refused to say, though Sony PR stepped in to say that we’d get more details soon.

I'm going to assume it will make it this year because if it doesn't then there's definitely something very wrong here, this was supposed to be a launch title.

Let people act dumb.

Game wasn't very fun at E3. I encourange any developer to take their time. There are no second chances once its released.

hopefully this "back to the drawing board" has nothing to do with Sony's VR headset. i would be extremely disappointed that a game was delayed just to force compatibility with some gimmick technology.

Really surprising that the game bombed as bad as it did when there are not a lot of high quality racing games out at the moment. Not sure what it means

I think the hardcore are just ready to move on from Ps3 and last gen in general. Hell, maybe many people were waiting to see just how good Drive Club would be, since that presumably was gonna be out soon. SO much for that I guess.

can't wait for

Before this statement they did indeed say they were re developing the social aspects to the game... also the VR rumours makes the r̶e̶b̶o̶o̶t̶ it believable

Edit: Likely just the same thing going on but phrased wrong

LOL. This is thread is probably why they should keep quiet until they have something new to say.Reopening old wounds without candy!

But when developers take their time costs go up and it's inevitable that a lot of people are going to be let go after completion of the project.

y'all should be ashamed

I think the most positive thing I read about any hands on article with the game is that it was "promising." But yeah, lots of fairly down previews were not a great sign.

Would rather it get delayed if it means it ends up being a great game. But now it has to live up to that. If it's just good or okay, then they void it's left in Sony's catalog this year won't have been worth it.

Still don't know why they greenlit another racing sim game when they have Gran Turismo under their umbrella
It isn't "another racing sim game". It's a mix between sim and arcade, leaning towards arcade racer.

Didn't they say back in January we'd get a release date "shortly"? I'm crying! :(

I also think the vast majority of people didn't think retooling the game to the extent that "going back to the drawing board" was a proper description was the reason for the initial delay. Seems most people were under the impression that it was basically to give the game some more polish time rather than bring it out in time for launch and the crunch associated with that.

However, describing what happened with that delay as "going back to the drawing board" pains a much grimmer picture about the actual state of the game's systems and online functionality than anyone thought was being worked during the delay period.

I'm embarrassed you, and others, didn't read the actual article, to say the least, but I am not surprised.

Edit: I thought not reading the damn article prior to posting knee-jerk reactions was a bannable offense?

Pretty sure I read the OP and the fucking article but keep begging for me to be banned.

"When asked about when it’ll launch, Rohde said, “We’re not announcing any specifics on that yet.” When pressed on if it would still come out sometime in 2014, Rohde refused to say, though Sony PR stepped in to say that we’d get more details soon."

How different could the game be? Apart from VR all I can think is that it's going either full sim or full arcade instead of a balance between the two.

Remember how we didn't really get more than 15 seconds of gameplay at the time for the last several months? This is probably related.

Might as well put that quote in OP:

Sony's output from WWS for 2014 is quite average if not below. I'd say MS certainly beats them in this department even moreso if Driveclub doesn't even make the 2014 date.
