OK Marvel Comics. Where is your "Batman" gaming title?

I want to play a Punisher game that feels like I'm actually the Punisher, tactically taking out my foes.

Like Sam Fisher, but way more awesome.

But yeah, we literally just had this thread.

Capcom makes good games with the Marvel license. Marvel/Disney is funny though. They get talent, they yank the license away. Post-MvC2 they gave the license to Activision who made some flat out god awful fighting game with it. They just yanked it from Capcom, honestly it would be best if they shelved making fighters period rather than give it to someone terrible and have some poor unfortunate soul out there think it's from the same lineage as the Capcom ones.

yup

Why does there "Have" to be a competitive title for Marvel against the batman game.

I'm glad there isn't one at the moment.

Any time Marvel or DC does anything, the other company must respond in kind. Lest....something happen. Not quite sure what, exactly, but something.

So it has been, and so shall it ever be.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
it's funny, in the comic and movie world, Marvel absolutely pummels DC. But in the gaming world, DC wins (So far)

Disney's Infinity will make more money than any of their Marvel hero games will - therefore Disney doesnt care l0l.

Question is, who would be the Arkham version for Marvel? Perhaps Spidey and maybe working on stuff on The Raft? Perhaps Cap doing stuff in both WW2 and now?

Hulk Ultimate Destruction was one of the best comic video games ever.. way back in 2005.

Wasn't a fan of AA, but AC was a huge improvement.. Still have to try AO.

I havent played Deadpool yet.. but i know its got mixed reviews.. some love it, some hate it. Hoping we get it with PS+ someday lol.

Wolverine Origins was awesome.

The Iron Man games sucked.

Ultimate Spider-Man was awesome on PS2, but really i havent enjoyed ANY of the newer spider-man games... even though i got to play as 2 of my favorite spideys (2099 and Noir are super awesome... just that game sucked)

Every Marvel Movie Licensed game on last gen has been crap (aside from the "semi-tie-in" with Wolverine Origins... the fact that they made the game rated M and gave Logan all the awesome bloody moves made that game so much more than a movie tie-in (pg13 movie no less).

Pisses on Arkham.

Ultimate Destruction? Better than Arkham.
Spider Man 2? Better than Arkham.

Marvel's been putting out Quality games way before DC. Come on; let's be real. Treyarch are the gods of Spidey games (and now CoD, ironically.)

completlet forgot about hulk ultimate destruction. That game is the best super hero game ever created thus far imo as far as making you feel like the super hero you are playing

I've been saying this since Asylum; the popularity of the Batman games have to do with how popular the films are really. if the films never existed AA/AC would never be as big selling as they are now

it's also ridiculous cause this whole Batman phenomenon is just ugh.

It's one of those things that Batman doesn't even seem like it belongs to DC, it seems like DC belongs to Batman. Batman is this big franchise of games and movies and none of the joe everybody wants to see anyone else, they're all considered weak links. "superman is lame, wonder woman is lame, flash is lame, aquaman is lame" and it just centers completely on Batman.

I don't know, it's just ugh

Yes he should. It'd be completely mental.

All Glory to Khonshu!

Also; an Iron Fist game that followed the Capital Cities of Heaven arc would be pretty damn boss.
Chilling with Fat Cobra and his victory wenches, and having a playable Orson Randall in a WWI flashback.

Ahhh....to dream of such things.

Captain America and the Avengers by Data East.

Pretty damn good game too. It is the reason I like Vision. I never saw the 4 player version, but I know it exists. If they want to make Hawkeye scenes a bit more interesting in the next Avengers film they need to get him his flying bike.

Ultimate Destruction was not only a great game it had a huge influence of how Hulk is portrayed moving through cities. I have only picked up a couple dozen Hulk comics over the last twenty or so years, but never before did I see him climb buildings in the way they saw in the game and that was definitely adapted in Edward Norton Hulk movie as well as Avengers. Hell, they even had the car gloves in the Norton movie.

You have point. Nolan and Goyer taught fans how to take Batman serious. I wish Snyder would direct X-men.

Yep.

The consumer audience doesn't give a fuck about anything DC. In their eyes DC doesn't exist. Only 'Batman.'

Marvel does a much better job of getting their other characters out in Media. There will be a fucking Amadeus Cho film/game before there is a Wonder-Woman film/game. Count on it.

Might as well rename it to fucking BC. Batman Comics

It especially sucks because it's made me utterly sick of Batman. I've never been the biggest fan of the character, but I do like him. But man, I am just sick of the guy and the constant perpetuating of this idea that he's just soooooo much better than every other superhero.

Maybe if DC actually gave other characters a fair shake, they'd see people like them just fine. I mean, fuck. There's literally legions of people, many of whom don't even read comics, just waiting to give them money for a Wonder Woman movie and WB is just sitting there like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I want an Iron Man game with the kind of detail and graphics of the Batman Arkham games, but I realize I'm asking for too much.

It's not just a idea anymore, it's just general opinion now among a lot of people. DC isn't helping that any, it is their lord and savior and cash cow after all.

Ask anywhere, most people are batman marks, doesn't seem to be any fatigue in sight.

Funny enough, Superman was way more popular than Batman when they took that name. I guess someone saw into the future.

I know. You'd think WB/DC would interested in fighting that perception, or at least using their other heroes to appeal to people that don't like Batman, but alas.

God forbid Batman ever fall out of favor with the public; they'll have nothing to fall back on.

Difference in opinion. You could only believe this if you really, really enjoyed fighting games. Plus UMvC3 has this bad habit of making people I know want to throw it out the fucking window, even when they claim to enjoy it. Arkham's never made me want to do that. Other games don't either, because typically I don't pay for frustration.

There's a lot of potential in a Punisher game. I'd like to see a mechanic (not too ham handed, mind you) that forces the player to be judicious with their actions to avoid police and FBI targeting. Blowing up a low rent drug house? Possible, but will bring heat to you. Blowing up a Jigsaw operation? Big move, but because of Jigsaw's status, not much heat comes to you. Shoot up a block, damaging storefronts/harming innocent bystanders...you will feel consequences.

Just something to allow the player to feel like they exist in a world.

And yet despite the Batman bias, multiple overall DCU games have been made recently.

Which is surprising. And cool.

Though I'd love to see some more solo games starring other DC characters. Like a character action game ala Bayonetta or GoW starring Wonder Woman, or a big open world action game starring the Flash.

Strap on your hooker ...
Disney: "Well, you see Mr. OP, we have this new franchise called Infinity. We're planning a little something called Marvel INFINITY which will cost us much less and sell fuck tons more units that WB's little games. So, we're good."

Seriously, Marvel Infinity will print money, Then Star Wars Infinity will gush forth a fountain of crude oil.
Yep, just like how flooding shelves with plastic instrument games expanded and strengthened the market for more of them.

Oh wait no the opposite of that happened

The Arkham games really are in a special class.

  • X-Men Legends is a great beat-em-up.
  • Injustice was a pleasant surprise.
  • Spider-Man 2 & Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction are awesome open world games.
  • DCU Online is a really fun MMO.

Other games out there might feature super heroes, like the ones above, but few really achieve a game that feels like it was 100% what you'd want from the character. I don't want a Superman fighting game, nor an overhead dungeon crawler with Cyclops/Wolverine. That doesn't make them bad games by any stretch of the imagination, but my point is that the Arkham games delivered games that felt like the ones people had wanted for ages, if I'm making any sense. Arkham feels like THE game Batman fans wanted to play, whereas things that even aim for the right approach (Spider-Man 2) fall short in enough respects to never achieve that A-class (lack of mission variety, semi-dated hardware not enough at the time, etc).
