Media Create Sales: Week 13, 2014 (Mar 24 - Mar 30)

It won't be so easy now for PS4 to outsell Wii U LTD in Japan as some of guys are believing. Since Nintendo is very japanese-centric, they won't give up on the Wii U based on the fact it has a bigger userbase than the PS4 in their homeland and they'll probably use it to keep supporting it. Unless, of course, aware how dumb Iwata is, he decide to abandon the platform completely when it still had a chance to compete for the Japan lead.

If Nintendo announce more games this E3, they'll have prospects to keep it competitve against the PS4 in Japan. If Dragon Quest XI is announced as a Wii U exclusive, for example, they'll remain competitive.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

DQXI exclusive for WiiU would mean that it would also get KH3 and FFXV, since in this scenario Nintendo would have bought Square Enix - otherwise it won't happen.

You all know Vita and PS4 will obliterate 3DS and Wii U as soon as Sony announces PS1/2 emulation and we can play DQVII and DQVIII through remote play!!!....wait! That's my only hope as a European to play DQVII!! Fucicles!

Why would DQ warrant FF and KH?
That's not the point, DQ has no chance of hitting the WiiU. Even if DQ was first party and Nintendo bought the whole company, even they would put it on 3DS rather than on WiiU. So the scenario where the WiiU can keep up if it get 3rd party AAA IPs like DQ exclusive isn't a likely one.

Dragon Quest never goes to unpopular platforms. This is as crazy as thinking Monster Hunter 5 is going to be Vita exclusive.

It's nice to see the vita doing so well this year and everything else getting a bump...except the ps4. Even the 360 had a bump...

Even the Yokai Watch comic is doing good numbers.
This is definitely their most successful cross media franchise ever.

I wouldn't expect big numbers from Sonico.
The cartoon wasn't too big.

I'd be surprised if it beats Love Plus+.

Lol people think the WiiU's LTD is going to be higher than the PS3's. Wow now thats funny.

Who said WiiU would outsell PS4 Japanese LTD lol ?.

I do think WiiU will outsell PS4 in 2014 due to MK8, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, X and Smash releasing combined with the terrible Japanese PS4 line up.

I'd expect around 100K, first week, if not a little more. Unless I'm mistaken, Mario Kart generally debuts higher than 3D Mario in Japan, no?

GC and 64 was higher for mario (very slightly in 64 case) I think Kart will be a much higher debut but not to do with any precedents but they just dont come along as often as the nintendo platformers

These days, I'd say Mario Kart FW > 3D Mario FW fairly easily. Galaxy 1 was like 250K and Galaxy 2 was at like 339K first week. Mario Kart Wii was over 600K. Mario Kart 7 also launched at about 450K+ as opposed to 3D Land's 300K+.

Personally though I think Mario Kart 8 has a lot more hype than Mario 3D World did. The system has never been lacking platformers, whereas a racer like Mario Kart will be fairly rare on the system (Sonic's racer releases two weeks prior in Japan though). In addition, the graphical upgrade of Mario Kart 8 is obvious and actually turns heads.

Personally I'd pessimistically say Mario Kart 8 is going to open at least at 150K. I think it might open higher than NSMBU. NSMBU, while it was the sequel to the best selling Wii game was hampered by NSMB2 a couple months prior. If it gets significantly higher than NSMBU (200-250K) FW we might start seeing something interesting for Wii U in Japan.

Since Dragon Quest games, exclusive to nintendo for almost a decade, meant FF and KH were also nintendo exclusive... SE being reluctant to spend big on Japanese console games and DQs history of relatively spartan presentation values mean 3ds is overwhelmingly likely to get it if it isn't mobile, but with PS4 bombing in Japan and DQ being unpopular in the West a WiiU upport ala monster hunter is the likeliest bet on the console end.

I'm expecting 150k for MK8's first week but for it to have really, really good legs, drive hardware sales and go on to become the consoles best seller once it's inevitably bundled with the system later in the year.

PS4 will outsell Wii U handily because it'll actually have third party support + Nintendo's games aren't making as big of a splash as they used to on consoles.

Bayonetta 2 and X will likely bomb. Im not sure about Zelda Musou. Should be very interesting.

I actually think x might do relatively well. There is an audience on the wiiu playing dqx and if these people wants to try another RPG, x is the one to go. Selling 150k would be on par with the last one and for the wiiu, thats the best you can expect.

Its possible. I just see it as sequels to games that didnt exactly sell great on...the Wii U. They might do ok relatively but I dont see them as system sellers.

Expected, but L Thammy almost beat Media Create by units. =P

I should start selling my numbers. I'd have to make them all up, so I think I can compete with Chartz.

Even if we put Dragon Quest aside, the question is "why would publishers greenlight a Wii U exclusive?" If they're targeting the West, they need to be on PS4. If they're targeting Japan, they should be going with the 3DS or Vita. The only things that really make sense are games like Hyrule Warriors, where it uses Nintendo's brand recognition to benefit the third party.

I've read things here and there suggesting that Xenoblade has strong word of mouth even in Japan, so X might do okay for that reason. I can't imagine it sharing much of an audience with Dragon Quest, though. Dragon Quest is a mainstream game that has an appeal beyond the normal RPG audience. I guess the multiplayer RPG bit could be an overlap?

I never tied this before, but I ran the results with Media Create and Dengeki to see how it would go:

Code:
BY UNITS BY MEAN ERROR %

  1 31,778 Dengeki 1 5.16% Dengeki
  2 47,578 Media-Create 2 6.89% Media-Create
  3 48,943 L Thammy 3 10.63% L Thammy

Expected, but L Thammy almost beat Media Create by units. =P

what happens if you use Dengeki and Media Create as the baselines instead :p

This years E3 will be very telling for the future of WiiU. If all we see is already announced games and Zelda for late 2015 then it will be apparently obvious that Nintendo will be moving on from the console as fast as possible.

Even if they announce Animal Crossing & Metroid U on top of the new Zelda I still don't see it outselling PS4 LTD in Japan though because PS4 will eventually price drop and Japanese focused third party games will eventually arrive on a regular basis. Something that can't be said for WiiU.

Unfortunately I can't see a Metroid U unless it's already in development which I don't think it is :(

Ninja Gaiden isn't really the most popular game, I don't know why they thought a weird zombie spin-off was going to do anything decent.

Wii U will finish with 3-4 milions sold in Japan

And don't expect many more games to be in development for it considering they even annouced projects which will be most probably released in 2015 like FE/SMT collaboration or Zelda

The 360 version of Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z sold 323 units.

The best case scenario would be 3.096 units between both versions. If Famitsu is in line with Dengeki it would mean that it is the worst Ninja Gaiden debut. Even Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, Ninja Gaiden Black or Ninja Gaiden Σ Plus and Ninja Gaiden Σ 2 Plus did better.
