Eight cores? i7 3770? Am I missing something?
It's for the AMD processor listed.

Yeah, I guess this IS a good choice for me to have gotten and admittedly that makes my computer as it is strong enough to be the 'eh screw consoles lets go PC' option... though I guess that IS a big reason why I'd rather wait on an upgrade since I need something to destroy consoles when I can already match them more or less.pretty amazing how this keeps showing up on recommended. previous card before the current 680 and man it was beast
Logical vs. physical cores.
So just turn it off, it hardly adds anything to the game.

They should just have a 30fps lock option in the menu so people won't have to bother doing it through the drivers.Oh PC gets the "we didn't have enough time to optimize this one" edition again. Joy.
Hyper threading =/= 8 cores.
i7 3770 is only 4 core.
Last time I played it was near launch and my i7960 @ 3.6 Ghz couldn't even maintain a solid 45 FPS. AC4 didn't fair much better for me either.AC3 runs fine for me
AC4 with PhysX was a fun project though.
Does an 8-core i7 3770 even exist?
That's gotta be a typo.
Imagine how many cores before the downgrade.
Yeah I know that, which is why I pointed as much out in the op that I think they're including hyperthreading with the count. lol >.>

How so?
I wasn't directing it at you, just the way Ubisoft addressed it.
Fuck, is this going to be a trend, I bought a i5 4670k due to recommendation that it should be future proof for the PS4 generation, if I had known 8 core is going to be a standard I would have bought a different CPU.

Shit, us plebians with 4-core i4770s are FUCKED
I somehow think my i5 2500k at 4.5ghz is gonna be alright
that said, it's probably terribly optimized in the CPU department, like asscreed
It has hyperthreading, which allows it to act like an 8 core I guess

FX-8350 have 8 cores and the i7 3770 have 4 cores but 8 thread (HT).On the Ubisoft forum boards, the UK Forum Manager didn't include ''eight cores'', but I'm not familiar with computers so I'm not sure if there's a difference..

Sure, but the minimum requirements for CPU are fairly low for today's standards. We don't know yet what exactly it is that is making the recommended settings ask for this much. We don't know the effects or resolution used for their benchmarks, or even the framerate target.
Is it for 1080p 30fps and PS4 settings? Then you're goddamn right this looks like an unoptimized mess. Those things don't mean anything, honestly. It's a shame they don't, but it is what it is.
It could be an impressively optimized port that, as long as you don't use max tessellation settings or whatever you can have it running and looking much better than consoles with only a 560ti, or it could be a mess that drops to 40fps for no reason in certain areas.
Only time will tell.
Saying it's Ubi so we should be careful is a fair point though.

That is why I went with the PS4. I am running a 2500k and a GTX 580. I knew that going into this next generation I was going to need a video card upgrade, and that alone would be the price of a PS4, maybe a little less. But, I also had the feeling that more threads could become standard, regardless of frequency, and I wasn't about to upgrade my entire system rather than just get a PS4.Wonder how seriously it's required?
Still, it's part of why I favor the idea of getting a new console over a new PC at this moment if you want to play next-gen games: a console is guaranteed to work, while a high end PC might be quickly outpaced. Especially since there really hasn't been a good replacement for CPUs like the i5 2500k just yet, so while the video card upgrade will be worth it you might be caught with your pants down with games like this whether due to legitimately needing 8 cores or just being a poor port.
Starting to sound a lot like Call of Duty Ghosts. Preparing for the worst.

its not like hyper threading literally does nothing. it splits the workload per core to process more threads simultaneously. if theyre recommending the i7 because there game is heavily threaded well then there ya go, it makes sense. listing "8 core / hyper threading on a 4 core" is kinda wonky.
I'm fucked?
What does this mean for someone with an Alienware X51 with a i7 (not sure of cores) and a GTX 660
Going off the PC version of AC4, that's a yes--sorta. GPU wise you'll probably be able to smash the game with heavy amounts of AA and goodies, but performance will be bottlenecked something fierce due to the shit CPU optimization.
I got so tired of the framerate in AC4 I just said fuck it and locked it to 30FPS and ran 8xMSAA because I couldn't get the damned thing to run anywhere above an average of around 45 FPS no matter what I did.
