So Dark Souls II [PC] is launching in less then a month and there's no footage of it.

This list is encouraging to read. That the game has all of those native options shows that they were really thinking about the PC performance from the beginning. In the end, the consoles really got the performance cut.

Are all of those options confirmed by your source?

As other have said, if possible, try to gather as much info. regarding the lighting of the game. How does it look? Is it darker? etc.

Yes, it's what I was told. I'm trying to get more info but it's hard for me to come up with specific questions since I didn't play it on consoles. So far I'm trying to find out about the hitboxes that a lot of people complained that they felt off.

Calibrations version is 1.04, what is it on consoles right now?

Let's see

1080p at 60fps
Several graphics options. Textures, shadows, effects, AA, AO, blur, anisotropic filtering, water quality, depth of field and etc
There's an option that will automatically lower your graphics to mantain performance
Really fast loading times. Don't even have time to read an entire tip

That sounds like a pretty solid port to me.

Who is Gbraga and how can we trust this person?

Anyway, even if he/she is right, that's disappointing news. I don't get the '1080p at 60fps' thing though since that's not exactly a setting you can toggle. Does the game let you choose higher resolutions and is it capped at 60?

I've been anxiously waiting for the PC version. As long as I get 60 FPS I am a happy camper. I also have a SSD so loading times will be nonexistent. Slightly better textures will also be nice, but 60 FPS does so much more.

It really does, and I'm very happy with that. Hopefully Durante won't be needed (aside from allowing us to use PS3 buttons, pretty please?)

Still doesn't answer about the lighting though. If it was removed on consoles because of performance, why isn't it intact on PC?

Those fast loading times and Steam are gonna make PvP a dream. So stoked.

I think it was both a limitation and a design choice. Having it be that integral meant changing the way people played the game. Not being able to two hand weapons and stuff. I'm sure the overwhelming beta feedback about how dark it was probably made the decision to remove it easier. I wish they would have kinda found a middle ground though.

Well if the lighting is out it's disappointing but at the end of the day it's all about that 60fps.

What exactly do you want from the PC version?

I'm not part of the industry at all, as I said, please don't take my word for it.

The 1080p/60fps thing may be just their native resolution, I already asked about the possibility to downsample, so that might answer questions about resolutions over 1080p.

It's the most important thing to me as well. 60fps and I'm happy.

The quality of the reveal footage, or at bare minimum the TGS footage.

I'm not saying you're lying. I just prefer to be skeptical.

About the darkness thing, I hear it's about this level of dark:

iLgDnbTnZMmoJ.gif

The tutorial area of (PS3) Dark Souls 2 doesn't get even close to those levels of darkness; if the PC version really looks like that then chances are the overall atmosphere will be slightly improved.

Man, I really wish we didn't have to gather breadcrumbs of info when we're just 3 weeks away from launch.

I think I'm going with "design change because of consoles limitation" too. It would make sense to want the same experience on all platforms after all, even if it means the lesser experience (they did talked about the darkness as being very important to them).

No worries, it's the best thing to do. I'm just sharing because I was excited when I heard that the port seemed to be very solid.

I think next week is when we will start seeing and hearing things since the people are starting to get previews. Better late than never. At least we'll know what we get before we buy it.

Apparently there's no in-game vsync option, but there's no tearing either, so maybe it's forced on? Or could that just mean that it's limited to 60?

I suppose your source is also starting a fresh playthrough. Did he/she play the game on consoles as well? If so, try asking him about how the interior halls of
Forest of Fallen Giants
look like, it's one of the earlier areas and a very solid point of reference.

Is the game so far performing at a solid 60FPS? Thanks for answering the Q's btw.

Probably limited to 60 since it said "higher FPS option" on Steam. I remember Durante saying funny things would happen in the first if the FPS went higher than 60 frames.

And yeah, thanks for the answers. I won't hold you to anything of course but it's good to hear something.

Well, at 60fps your roll and jump were both shorter in distance and you could fall through the level on some ladders

Custom resolutions are supported.

I will, and he did.

Yeah, I hear the performance's great. Solid 60. I don't know their rig though.

It would make sense. I hope they fixed the jumps though, can't press backspace to go back to 30 for a jump now.

Gbraga if you're wrong about any of these a million years *of shame* upon your family lineage ;)

Sounds like a much better version than I expected though.

Edit* dumb mobile posting.

Thanks for all the info Gbraga, still interested in hearing if there is any changes at all to the lighting compared to console retail.

That would be vital to know as well. I hope you can gather that info for all of us because a solid 60 is, honestly, the least I was expecting from this game on PC.

I was beginning to worry we were just going to get a facsimile that inherited most of the issues present in consoles.

If everything turns out to be true, it'll be pretty damn good.

The darkness thing is probably the one that have the highest chance of being off though, since your display and settings can change that. This is something we'll probably need footage to judge.

Me too >_<

It'd probably help a lot if they got to the Mirror Knight fight. But I don't know if it's complete access or if it's limited, or how far into the game the Mirror Knight is.

I assume that's about the tutorial, and I didn't play it on consoles to know how it is there.

Hey guys, I'm the person who made that GIF.

Don't use that as a testament to the lighting. Because it is a 50fps GIF, I had to limit the colors for it to maintain the smoothness, and as a result it's colors are really compressed.

Here's a better PC lighting example showing off a great area

data_2014_01_30_23_24_19_28_by_aloo81-d79c6am.jpg

and a daylight example

I tested these both and that actually wasn't the case.

Jumps were only shorter when it was actually over a gap in which you had enough time to being your "fall" animation.

No but GMG did send out a wave of 25% off vouchers for DS2 to people today. they're tied to each person's account though so you either got lucky or didn't.

Check your email.

I got one. But I'm waiting to see if the PC version is shit or not.

Account bound codes.

If he wants he could paypal someone with the code and provide him with the key when its available I guess.

You're a good guy for offering but as you can see, it's a no go ;)

I asked their Twitter support if I can get a code, doesn't hurt to try I guess.
If you don't get a code and you need someone to help you with it PM me before April 11.

Have we received any word of support for 120hz?

I really really hope it will allow that. Most games do but the ones that don't tend to be stuff like this.

I've been so tempted to pick this game up on PS3 but at this point it's been long enough that I'm resolved to make my first time through this game the right way.
