It's a fine port. Not worth double dipping to me though, sticking with console version.
He he he, poor From Software... it's not good enough to just make a seemingly great followup to a good game anymore is it?
I'd be hype for the PC release, but I just bought it on the 360 somehow.
You expected them to completely overhaul their lighting engine for a PC port?
PC was supposed to be the lead platform this timesome dirty liar said:Q: The demo presented during the event ran on PC. This means there is also a PC version developed in-house?
A: The version shown before the interview actually ran on PC. If the first Dark Souls was adapted from consoles to PC, this time, it's the opposite. The PC version serves as a base
Yeah I know. Why should anyone be upset at misleading marketing? People should just accept this type of bait and switch and be happy about it.

Those early previews continue to haunt this game.
This actually looks pretty good but I'm sad at the lack of good lighting. I'll probably pick it up in the Summer.
The lighting was changed drastically, to a point where torches were basically useless and various textures lost some fidelity. Unfortunately, the PC version of Dark Souls 2 doesn't fix this. While this shouldn't come as a surprise, those hoping for a drastically different looking game will be sorely disappointed.
Of course, all of this is made even better by the fact that the game runs at a solid 60fps.
We were led to believe this isn't a port.
So, did ScamSoftware lied when they said PC is the lead platform?
Because that looks simply like a port of the console version.

it's not about the lighting anymore, honor and shame are huge parts of it

I've now subscribed to this thread.
Great game is great, Glad they sacraficed prettier visuals for a stable framerate and more playability
or the console version is a downgraded port of the pc version?
Don't care. I didn't even really mind the ps3 graphics to be honest.
What is more bothersome are the long ass load times. Which won't be present on pc.
Good:
A good PC version.
Bad:
No old Lighting.
I'll take it.

Its clear there is only ONE version of the game
Im curious as to when the Assets in the reveal were scrapped.
Its pretty stupid to go "Hey guys, our game looks a lot worse now" right before release. If you are going to release a completely different game at release you owe it to the consumers to at least mention that, if not in the preview builds then up to release.
It was what they seemed to have done, but the problem was that scaling back as much as they did resulted in having to overhaul the level lighting (as in reducing the number of actual dynamic lights and adding ambient lighting etc.) and bringing that back would have meant going through all the levels again and balancing them again for the dynamic lighting which then would have resulted in supporting two completely different versions of levels for each patch to come. The only way it's going to come back is after the current console versions are done with (DLC and patches released) and they end up working on versions for PS4/XB1 and then update the PC versions with the assets from those versions.PC was supposed to be the lead platform this time
I think people were expecting a modern lighting system that was maybe scaled back for consoles, not for ps3 to be the lead platform then ported out from there with 2006 era "PC enhancements"
