'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

If for some reason they are unable to hit a steady 60fps while keeping it running at 1080p I hope they lock it at 30fps and go all out with the eye candy.

Why are people acting like the game won't hit 60fps the vast majority of the time based on a standard phrasing for games in development?

TBF no one knows the majority cases this gen of something targeting leads to it generally being 40's mark and maybe, or maybe not with serious dips. Often not locked in any case

I wish this game was temporally reprojected so hard that it was 120fps even if that means it couldn't output that via HDMI, just so they could charge $120 for everyone that says $1 per fps.

Do it Sony, you'll make so much money! By writing that on GAF they have made a Faustian deal. His name isn't EvilOre for nothing!

There's like three people in this thread that are actually excited about this games release and everybody else is concerned and miffed about performance and price.

Fucking sad

The same was true last gen of games that said 60fps without the targeting qualifier. This is a PS3 port being handled by Naughty Dog themselves. I have faith in them.

Still going physical copy with this even with the extra content with the digital pre-order. I have tried to never read or watch anything about this game. Can't fucking wait.

I am so jealous of you. This is one of those games I wish I could play again for the first time.

I'm the fourth! Can't wait to play this a third time and have a new go to MP game for the PS4!

I was unsure, but considering it contains all the DLC [of which I've already paid about £15 for..) and the upgrades, all in one package on the PS4, it's a fair $60. Looking forward to it.

Ah cool, I never got it for the PS3 so this should give me some fun this summer. Hope it comes out in early summer though.

Why would you buy it? You can't even know whether or not it is good!

I'm expecting some eye-popping graphics. That's a reasonable expectation, right?
Everyone in your family will be bed-ridden for years and after that you need to get a seeing eye dog for everyone, but because demand for the seeing eye dog services will have skyrocketed post-release they will be so expensive that you will have to live in poverty.

You will be unable to feed your dog and the school that sold you the dog will buy it back from you and because you're now living on the street you've become addicted to drugs and sell the dog for that. Then you die.

The fact that ND is handling this port in house has eased some of my concerns about its potential quality. I would've also accepted Nixxes or Bluepoint.

Still gonna hold off on pre-ordering on PSN till we get a solid release date though.

You're going to roll your eyes at this, but I honestly think it's too fluid. Ironically it feels like anything at 60FPS doesn't move at real speed but instead is sped up(yeah I know, real world 60FPS). It is visually jarring and causes a disconnect.

It's fine for something like COD, or MGS:R becuase it's an action game, and therefore supposed to look like a game. 30FPS is also a hell of a lot closer to 24 than it is 60. I just think it betrays the notion of "Hey, I'm playing a movie." It feels foreign and personally unwelcomed. But once again, I don't like seeing movies in 48 FPS either.
For some reason my reply to this didn't save, seemingly anyway.

The real world isn't 60fps, we actually don't see in frames, different aspects of our visual perception are updated at different frequencies, for example we see contrast 'sooner' than we see color, but even the slowest parts are considerably quicker than 60fps.

Your examples are bad because those games are fast, TLoU isn't going to look or feel like CoD because it's 60fps, it's going to look like a smoother TLoU does. Play something like RE4 at 60fps and see how that compares.

As for films, there are people that consider the 25fps PAL films unwatchable because they're strayed from 24fps, a single frame can notably change the feeling of a film, so 30 being closer to 60 isn't having anything like the impact you're imagining.

The Hobbit at 48fps is an interesting experience, I personally hated it, but then I saw it in 24fps and it was also pretty horrible looking film. It's also not possible to see it in 2D in 48fps as far as I know, so it's difficult to compare. Although I think personally the most apt comparison for this situation is MGS3. A slow paced, heavily cinematic experience, which for me, I didn't really like on PS2 at 30fps, and became my favorite game in the series, and in my all time top ten probably, when playing it at 60fps. It did nothing to diminish the impact of the story, or story telling, and did everything to improve my experience of the game.

It's going to sound incredibly arrogant, and maybe it is, but wait and see, you're not going to be complaining about it lacking a filmic quality when you play it, I'm quite sure.

Is it just me, or did Ellie suddenly get a bad case of man-face?

It def looks off. Its what I meant before to me, it looks like Ellen Page again. They should fix it for retail release IF thats the cover art for the PS4 release. Right now, Im not liking it. Ellie doesnt look like that.

So glad this got announced, means more people get a chance to experience this great game in it's best form. Sold my PS3 version as soon as I saw the accidental confirmation. It chugs on PS3, so can't wait to see it with all these improvements. I think Sony has nothing to lose by porting their late PS3 titles over since lots of people skipped them. Pupeteer, Beyond, Last of Us etc. bring them all!

My favorite game from the past generation, and probably one of best games I've played in all my life. And also I enjoyed immensely the multiplayer, very fun, slow paced and different. Day 1 :D .

Well, "60FPS" aside, it is safe to say we see at a higher fidelity.

I'm just really worried about losing that visual flavor. But then again, God of War 3, with is 40ish FPS looked very cinematic, due ofcourse to camera angles, lighting, etc.

I will reserve judgement for now, but yeah, I didn't like the looks of UC3 in 60FPS at all.

Three people? There's a huge thread of folks claiming this is their PS4 system seller and can't wait for the game to game to come out.

You're hearing the typical vocal minority.

I actually think 60fps for TLoU's gameplay will work very well. It's more more grounded in realism than Uncharted is and the brutality will have added punch with clearer, more defined animation.

Well you're not going to lose anything in a port, TLoU is going to look massively better.

If you mean like UC4/TLoU2, I think the chances of those games being 60fps is practically zero.

The new hardware is going to allow for a much better looking game at 30fps, those changes are just too complex and costly to implement into a port, so it makes more sense to use that overhead on performance.

Was hoping this would come out, as I sorta missed the boat on the PS3 one and now it feels old and crusty coming from the PS4 :p

Excited to finally check it out.
