one thing Shaft does is pick interesting subject matter to adapt. Their shows arent boring. They have a way of approaching things thats fascinating due to the styles they choose to utilize and the way they depict characters. Its intoxicating really. Im addicted to Shaft studio works.
well they have some shows that aren't worth any second to be wasted on

Matsutaro 2

The MC's still a complete ass, the overall subpar quality of the show conveys all too well the staffs inability to give a shit, and they still haven't really gotten to the sumo stuff. I kinda want to give this the benefit of the doubt but it's just too lackluster to. Dropped.

Disappointing, but after the first episode I don't know why I expected any better.

Only SHAFT stuff I've seen is Madoka, the Kid Icarus short, and these gems. I feel like I'm missing out at times!
You haven't watched Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru? smh

I was first (unknowingly) exposed to their charms in Tsukuyomi Moonphase. Its been love ever since. They pick such weird things to adapt like Denpa Onna and bakemonogatari and Arakawa and some more typical things like soredemo and szs but with their own special stamp of awesome.

I still dont understand the point of that. Someone who wont talk to someone unless they have a different avatar has ZERO credibility whatsoever. There is literally no useful information that can be gained from such a person.
I understand the motivation, and not everyone has the personality to stand out in a crowd, but it's also important to recognize whether it's actually an issue and when you're letting a vocal minority get the best of you.

Only know of the first due to the corndog dude's forced avatar and the second because I could swear people describe it as "secret best show" or something! I have gaps I'm slowly filling!

O-Boy. Love these puns.

I'd also like to say that I love the watercolor effect used for the backgrounds.

Oh god, I'm dead!

And now it's become Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

I'm like one of three people here who like Denpa.

Arakawa is legit though.

I don't understand it at all. And really if people are so stupid as to think that way, I don't think they'd have anything sensible to say on any topic. I'm kind of shocked such people exist.

I watched first season of Arakawa, it's pretty good. Definitely more worth your time than some of the filth you will encounter later on in Monogatari.

Shows such as?
Nisekoi, Sasami, Nisemonogatari

The two "do you judge people based on their avatar" threads aren't helping, for sure.

Living for the Day After Tomorrow 10-12 + Final Thoughts

I always do my research before, during and sometimes after I watch a show, and the Japanese wiki confirms that Kotomi and the bed and breakfast elements were anime original. With a premise like this, some sense of closure was needed in order to make things feel complete, and while I'm not 100% sure what came after, with the small cast the show had, I felt it followed through on its premise well enough. The themes of family, love and maturity were obviously intertwined in various ways, and largely reinforced one another. Like the old adage of kids wanting to be adults and adults wanting to be kids.

I wish Shoko had gotten a little more to do in the second half, and a chance to make some more friends her age, but Karada was definitely the lynchpin of this entire story. Episode 8 was one of my favorites because of that montage. Someone who was forced to grow up (in more than one way), but still lacks the knowledge necessary in order to make it really happen. The show knew exactly what it set out to do, and accomplished it. The ending with Kotomi was foreshadowed at least an episode or two in advance, and sometimes it's better to leave things unsaid (it's clear why it worked), but maybe a little bit more on the lore of the wishing stones would've helped - but I compared this to Natsuiro Kiseki, and that stone never had much explanation either. One of those things I need to suspend my disbelief for.

Just about every character is more than just a friend, just family or just a lover. Often, I found some combination of one in all of them. Karada is "family" and a friend. Shoko is a lover, but became a friend and a surrogate part of the family herself. Tetsu slides between lover and friend. All the permutations playing into each other made the relationships carry a bit of weight - again, the small cast. The animation had some really nice scenery, and it worked well. Not top-level, but it was pleasing.

It turned out to be a pleasant supernatural romance in the end. I wasn't sure of the level of drama, but while it had a heavy undertone to it, it always kept the heartwarming there, mostly in flashbacks. And while Hiro and Shoko did clearly have sex in the flashback, it's just a natural thing, and barely elaborated on, since the show wasn't focusing on that, but I'm pointing it out.

Worth the watch.

The trickiest part of going through the backlog is keeping the alternating shows with enough variety so that I don't overload on the same thing too much. Which is why my next show is Kannazuki no Miko the Fairy Tail OVAs and movie.

Thats just weird. But then I pay zero attention to avatars. Its names and the content I pay attention to. I don't think I could recognise any poster by their avatar.

Mekaku guy needs to get a life.

Does the Kana Asumi AI robot internet waifu thing not having feet symbolize a not-so-hidden urge from the fanbase to cripple and thus cut off any possibility of their waifu leaving them, as in, their fear of real human beings--and freedom exhibited by such people--manifested as this cutely voiced, all too crippled, explicitly not-real totemic fetish that calls them 'master' and dotes and caters to their needs.

Maybe they can put her in a wheelchair.

Rowdy Sumo Wrestler Matsutaro 2:
It's still pretty much impossible for me to care about Matsutaro, and he doesn't really seem to have been changed at all based on the events of the first episode. I wasn't expecting an overnight transformation, but he's still just so unlikable. It's a shame, because I like the old school style look of the show, and the music is pretty solid, but I really just can't get behind the main character at all.

How idiotic. Shes a ghost in the machine, who are frequently depicted like that.

I figured she was a corrupt program. Then again, she is bound to him (unless he sends her through email, apparently).

Also, I feel like the whole "master" thing is a callback to I Dream of Jeannie.

My understanding that most of it is fanwank about how magic works in the universe though. lol
"But I didn't care to try to write it any better" isn't a good excuse for such awful world-building and character design, though! It's a pretty bad excuse, in fact.

Internally consistent magic is the first rule of any dumb wizard thing :<
It does help, but even series without consistent magic can be good... but it definitely helps if the magic actually does make sense and follows rules. This is something which annoys me in games when, for instance, they have a magic system where the player and computer work by completely different sets of rules (this is not particularly uncommon)... that may work within a game, but it's clearly not consistent.

Anyway though, in this series, there are lengthy explanations of magic all over the place for sure, but in the end most of it serves to explain how amazingly incredible the MC is, really. :p

NIce explaining .. too bad i didn't read it because it's full of spoilers. I consider this show to be one with potential so there is no reason for me to spoil my enjoyment
Isn't this too much ?Talking about plot points that aren't even used in the anime yet when only the first episode aired ?
I'm not spoiling the plot, just explaining how the world setting and main character work. There are some minor plot spoilers, but those are in spoiler-tags and none are anything major; I don't talk about anything significant plotwise. The issues I discuss are more important than that, it's about general themes, not specific events. I do think that there's a difference between those two things -- reading that won't spoil the plot. It just explains how ridiculously dumb the writing is.

I read SAO way before the anime started , so should i had done something similar and spoil all the points that were controversial over a lot of people in advance ? I don't think that's cool
I disagree there for sure. Maybe if people had been forewarned about how SAO gets even WORSE later on, maybe some of them might not have watched it, only to turn on it later once it got too stupid even for them... (I greatly disliked SAO from a conceptual level so I never had that problem myself, fortunately.) All that SAO-love early in the series was quite annoying, it's one of the things that got me to stop reading the anime threads for a while. But yes, I do like to know what I'm in for in a series, as far as themes and the like go.

So Mahouka is "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality", but with incest?
Is Harry that broken? I never read those books, and only watched a couple of the earlier movies... but if he is, then yes, that would fit perfectly. Nice description there. :)

Remember when you said ABF had thought about the plot more than the writers? I wouldn't give them that much credit!
It's definitely unfortunate that anime, manga, and LN writing is so often so, so low quality.

This lost me like halfway through when it stopped being this inversion of Sasami-san and the... masked guys came in.

I'd prefer it to have remained a two man show between a man and his computer but all the chu2 cruft gets in the way.

Uh, okay bro. Hope you weren't overwhelmed by the sincerity of the post~

I'm actually referring to a fanfiction, in which a 11-year-old Harry revolutionizes magic by applying the scientific method (vaguely). And yes, he's completely broken, so much so that they had to make the invincible villain from the original even more broken.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
From now on, I'm going to start telling Korean women my nick name is East Dragon then give them a wink :)

More Kana Asumi!

Kana Asumi is only woman who could play one of the sweetest characters in anime history, then be a lunatic horny teenaged Chtulu god, and then go full on psycho.

I'm reminded of Ace Attorney
Dual Destinies
Pearl from those images. Adorable embarrassment is adorable.

I don't have an anime avatar. Because who needs anime avatars when you can have a dog with a top hat smoking.

I can't fight that logic. That is truthful logic.

Good for those that wanted it. I'm not one of those. But it should be a ratings draw, so I'm happy either way.
