You accidentally typed a "1" in there.

Thankfully I was between swigs of tea, would have been messy :)

We need figures to compare it to, but this is impressive none the less.

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!
it's good knowing that the more powerful console is also the most sold

Mobile gaming is the future, they said.
Console gaming is dead, they said.

Both statements are true
in Japan
.

Seriously though, 7 million in 5 months is mental, they've done a crazy good job at giving the people what they want. At that rate they could easily sell over 100+ million PS4s over the generation.

Clearly the Xbox One dominated US March NPD. They had to considering it was the month of the most hyped next-gen exclusive yet but it's maybe a higher loss than expected so they tried to put this PR beforehand.

Maybe they lost the lead in the US too. Worldwide however they have nothing to worry about.

He who will not be named released a tweet yesterday saying he heard from a MS guy PS4 outsold XB1 2 to 1 the last couple weeks worldwide. If Sony loses the NPD battle I doubt they care.

Great stuff Sony, but this feels like preemptive strike before tomorrow's NPD release.

I am sure MS 'won' March's NPD and that will come out tomorrow, but where is the wisdom in this as a pre-emptive strike to that?

Surely a better retaliation (or lunge for the throat/sweep to the legs/etc) would be to announce 7 million sold after MS announces their NPD figures, not before.

For the oddest reason I can't actually quote Wynneback atm, but here's the quote:

Not good at all. If they took until April 13th to hit 7 million, then that means the pace has slowed down considerably even with Ground Zeroes and Second Son releasing. I'm now smacking myself in the head as this invariably confirms that Xbone won March's NPD and Sony is trying to cushion the blow by letting people know they surpassed 7 million units. Pretty sad, but whatever gets people cheering.

I was going to seriously reply to this, but you've tricked me good once already. Won't fall for the same trick twice tho.

No way. I still believe the sales will be a lot more frontloaded because of the crazy long last previous gen.

Couldn't be less than half a million. Thursday should be interesting.

yes it could be, and it will. The combined numbers of Japan and Europe are definitely more than NA by itself. Its selling arounbd the same rate in Europe as in NA. I'm predicting 350k-400k in NA. Its gotta be less than 400k though.

Did they not release information of 6 million sales before the March NPD?

If so that would make this current "hypothesis" invalid.

They released the 6 million figure on the 3rd and the NPD results were released on the 13th. It just seems like they wanted to clear 7m+ before they announced the next figure. No fun in 6.Xm. ;)

PS4 still going strong.

Naw, summer is coming and sales will start slowing down. The ramp up will start again in August with the holiday acceleration starting in September with Destiny.

watch_dogs will also be released. i know it's got a bad rep here, but people are genuinely excited for that title. kinda like ac? lol. it's hated and loved and it's popular. okay, there's more hate than love, but still it sells.

sept is destiny, which is being pushed for ps4 per activision's strategy. diablo 3, order 1886, the new assassin's creed unity, nba 2k15, etc. most are multiplats but we all know in the real world, people buy these games for one console and that console most people will be buying their multiplats on will be the console this holiday.

XBO must sell 340k more consoles than PS4 to surpass it tomorrow.

If Sony released news of the 6 million sales on March 3rd and that was before Feb NPD numbers, why is it assumed that releasing the 7 million news before the March NPD is "preemptive"?

It's selling terribly in Japan. Europe would have to be doing the major lifting, but I'm not sure whether the European market matches the US market.

Why are there so many people in this thread who think that this PR automatically definitely means that PS4 lost NPD in March? How does that even make sense from a PR point of view?

He who will not be named released a tweet yesterday saying he heard from a MS guy PS4 outsold XB1 2 to 1 the last couple weeks worldwide. If Sony loses the NPD battle I doubt they care.

Did he also happen to mention that EA and Respawn were begging for forgiveness from Sony?

So I'll assume PS4 will hit 10 million by august and then explode from there since it's close to the holiday periods where sales double.

Am I right in assuming that?

So About 15 million+ at the end of 2014 would be a pretty safe estimate for PS4, wouldn't it.

For those saying the PS4 is slowing down, scroll to the right for the Sales Per Day in each tracking period

That's not what it means at all. Regardless of what you or the competition does, sales will slow down gradually following launch. Do you expect them to keep up a launch pace throughout the entire year? Even when factoring for supply constraints, the vast majority of people who really wanted one very badly (as in, were anticipating launch instead of being enticed later on) have already purchased or will do so soon.

Sales will only slow down if demand is satiated or supply is not replenished. Due to a lack of information on my part (I haven't been following threads, I'm just assuming the PS4 is still in a "sold out" status in stores), I'm assuming demand hasn't been satiated. Therefore, I look at it as 1 million in 5 weeks as being a (slight) decline that represents lost opportunities, as production capacity (or, at least, shipments) still isn't increasing and isn't keeping up with demand. Now, if you were to come back and tell me that actually the PS4 is available pretty much everywhere, then the nature of the conversation changes.

At any rate, if they're going to be near as successful as desired, production simply will have to ramp up in the months ahead, if it hasn't already. They'll have to get on a pace to produce at least 20 million units per year, possibly higher, if they want to satisfy all consumers once you factor in the holidays.
