Mario Golf: World Tour DLC [3 packs, 2 x 18 holes ea., New Chars, Day 1, Season Pass]

Is the DLC locked to one 3DS at a time or can it somehow be tied to the cartridge?

It's locked to the 3DS. Good in that other people can borrow your 3DS to get access to some DLC they haven't purchased (e.g. FE:Awakening). Bad if you're using a cartridge and switch systems ever without moving accounts.

yeah that's my main problem with it. They were very clear in the beginning that they were not going to go that route. It's the precedent this sets that bothers me because while it isn't bad value proposition for Mario Golf there is no guarantee about how future releases will pan out.

If it helps, the game was probably ready for release months ago (it was originally announced for Summer 2013, if you recall), and they likely held back the release in order to finish the DLC to sell close to release.

So instead of "release the game and 60 days later release first DLC pack", it's "hold back the game 60 days to release game and DLC pack together." The Nintendo Difference™.

Sorry if obvious, but is the season pass timed at all, or will it be always available at Toad's store (until you buy a single pack rendering the pass void)?

Believe it's forever (until the first individual purchase), just like the FE:Awakening DLC packs were always available, even after all the individual maps were released.
Need more Fire Emblem

It's more like why did Nintendo bother calling it a season pass. It's just a DLC pack.

No. There's three DLC packs and buying the season pass gets you all of them.

This is exactly what a season pass has been since the term was first used. I'm not sure why there's all this confusion about it.

Nope.

....oh, you mean a re-released game with DLC included. Still nope.

Go on...

What do you think season passes are? It's always been buying all dlc packs for a cheaper price. This time we just know what everything is in advance.
The best part is that since we know these are all remakes of the Mario Golf 64 courses, we already know the basic hole layouts, too.

Like, you can't get any more transparent than that. You can look up the hole layouts if you don't already know them, after all. No real mystery as to what we're getting. Though they could've just said they were MG64 courses from the start...

I just found out the DLC contains N64 courses.

Any previous criticism I had is gone. Hellooooo Season Pass.

Now if we could just get Minigolf Mode from 64.

been playing the demo a little. not sure if I want.

something about the controls feels odd. difficult to see where I'm hitting it. best example is trying to land on the bumper things on Yoshis course, can almost not see if it's going to land there or not.

I think I'm OK with the DLC. will not buy it unless I run out of things to do, sounds like I might not.

also, it has multiplay, but my experience in handheld games is people will just drop off in such a long game the minute they are behind by 2 points. Would asymetric multi work in a game like this? that would be cool.

Not sure if this is what you meant, but you can play at the same time in this game so you don't have to sit and wait for your opponent to finish.

I want Minigolf Mode too. :( I also would've preferred if 3 of the courses weren't rebranded for what I presume are marketing reasons, too. I mean come on, they even use remixes of the tracks they're remakes of! ;_;

that's cool. would be nice to be able to challenge a friend though, play my game and have him accept 2 hours later, then it shows results when he's done.

Wait, so they're just N64 remakes or is each pack two new courses + the N64 ones?

I don't want to just remakes.
Toad Highlands, Koopa Park, and Mario's Star are remakes of the courses of the same name. Layer-Cake Desert is essentially a remake of Shy Guy Desert, Sparkling Waters is essentially a remake of Yoshi Island, and Rock-Candy Mines is essentially a remake of Boo Valley.

That is all the DLC. So yeah, they are N64 remakes.

Each pack comes with 2 courses. So you're getting remakes and likely some original ones.

Ah, this is exciting. Wasn't interested in the game from what was shown of the holes and the sixteen-character roster. Day 1 for me now. It's a shame Gold Mario has all the same animations though.

i will try the DEMO if it's better than Mario Golf GC i will get it 45$.

Between Mario Golf 64, Mario Golf GBC, Mario Golf GBA, and Mario Golf GCN, I thought Mario Golf GCN was the least enjoyable. Still fun, but the best part of the GCN version was the ability to transfer your GBA character to it to gain more stats. :p

This isn't a Jrpg like the other portable Mario sports games, right? (I don't know about Advance Tour, but I know Mario Golf GBC and Mario Tennis GBC are)

So is the season pass only available for a limited time or will you be able to buy it all three packs for the discounted price after it's all been released?

Also, the press release mentions Gold Mario being available after all packs are released. Does that mean as a free download or will you have to pay for him on his own?

Bleh, Nintendo please don't do this. You were doing so great with the DLC on most of your games, no point falling into the season pass hellhole now after staying away from it for so long...

This.

And also this:

Basically this. People want cheaper games, welp its $10 cheaper but with an additional 108 holes and 3 characters for $15 more.

If you bitched about Nintendo games being too expensive, this is on you. Welcome to the future you created.

And this:

Hey, people wanted Nintendo to embrace the internet and the way other companies were doing things now...

Be careful what you wish for.

I blame all the people who bought horse armour last gen.

Seems like a lot of people are on the fence on the game now because of the season pass. Not sure where else to post this but the first review dropped today courtesy of Gamereactor Sweden and they gave it a 9/10. They cite satisfying mechanics, impressive graphics, fitting roleplay elements, a lot of variation and tons of additional content among the highlights.

I wasn't very excited for this game during it's reveal last year but I'm starting to get pretty stoked.

At first I was mad.

Then I saw how much content was in that pack and in the full game and now i'm sorta interested considering me and my friends planned out some tournaments for this already.

That is some of the worst savings I've ever seen for a season pass.

European savings are pretty good - basically the three packs for the price of two. Maybe in recognition that they're fucking us over on the basic price of the game Vs the US?

true - especially in the challenge courses, there doesn't seem to be a way to spin the camera so you can at least check the trajectory from the sides? Also I think the 3-click timings feel odd when you're in manual mode.

Still, with Clap Hanz only just having released a smartphone version of everybody's golf for Docomo, we might not be seeing a new release on Vita/PS4 that soon, so this will fill the gap nicely I think.

Shouldn't the OT be up today? Assuming US release is next Tuesday
