Shawn, Eric, Topanga; I wanna know the whole damn cast.

I looked and scoured the whole internet and only found one other actor.
Kondo Isao (Susumu Chiba) from Gin Tama
Kondo_fullbody.jpg
As Eric Matthews

That's the only other person I could find, sorry, but if it's any consultation prize, you could just make up the rest of the cast with other anime characters you would think would fit the roles.

Also Persona 4 Characters Singing, including Adachi of all people.

Man, I can't wait to see more of the Etrian side of things. Still bummed that Koshiro isn't collaborating with Meguro on the game, though.

Sacrificial fusions sound like mitama fusions without the tediousness, but I'm curious to see if there's a potential penalty involved to force you think about it instead of just making stat gains like crazy.

It's also cool that they basically brought an updated version of the demon password system from Strange Journey in the form of QR codes. I just hope they don't balance the game around the feature, too, upping the difficulty just because you could theoretically find the perfect demon for any situation if you looked hard enough.

I accept your challenge. The design is okay, but I feel it misses the point of a playable Rise. Save new Persona designs for new characters, give me Rise's actual Persona.

I do hope that whatever causes the change is self-contained in Ultimax and not just "Rise had a sudden change of heart/got really frustrated" or something.
That too. In fact, that's exactly what happened to most of the Persona 3 cast (and Persona 2 cast).

It's definitely more akin to Persona 2, since it's basically a custom/prime persona - an improved version of a base persona with some slight cosmetic changes. So there's already precedent.

Part II

Chie: What the heck?!? I was trying to fuse Pyro Jack, but I got Ghoul instead.
Yu: Oh that can happen. It's a fusion accident.
Chie: How is that even a thing??

"HeeEeeeeEEEYyyyyyy GGGGGggggUUUUUyyyyyssss."

>Chie has seen an unexpected side of you: Abaddon, the illimitable glutton! Though the two of you elected never to speak of its creation again, Chie identifies with the incessant hunger represented by this card. Your bond has grown stronger!

I don't remember how or why, but this is on my hard drive:

Obligatory.

Just finished the latest podcast. You guys really hit it out of the park. Loved it. Corvo is a natural stated. Definitely hoping to be on an episode with him in the future.

I do think you guys were a little hard on BioWare. Their romances are extra shitty (and maybe you only mentioned that since it was a conversation more specifically about romance in games), but in terms of plutonic interactions? A LOT of those characters have arcs and good ones, I think. Persona does it better, but Mass Effect and Dragon Age both have good casts going for them.

But seriously I loved the episode. It's one if the best, I just wanted to throw my two cents in there, since (news at 11) I like BioWare a lot.

I've said it earlier, but I take character design very seriously.

In general I feel that character changes of that magnitude should be left to the actual source material and not frivolous spinoffs.

I don't consider it a weak reason, I just don't think it should be done in Arena. It has further reaching ramifications for her character than I think Arena should go into.

I kind of understand where you are coming from when you say that Persona 4 Arena is a spinoff and that they should not put serious change or impact on the canon in it. As much as I love Persona 4 Arena I have not played the story myself yet.

That said, I do not think this mindset can be applied to P4U so easily. It sounds like the creative team is doing their best to fix the presentation. They are modifying the way the story is told and using expanded presentation techniques like the social links. This does not necessarily mean that the actual writing of the story itself will be good, but I still think its too early to write it off as a frivolous spinoffs. Sorry if I might state the obvious, but I just wanted to get some words in on the discussion.

Persona 4 Arena: The Ultimate at Midnight Arena

Finished it. Elizabeth's mode is . . . really, really random. Like, even knowing that a lot of it hinges on having played the Answer, it's still kinda random. She just barrels in and leaves. No wonder they discard it. Aside from Yu showing her the glorious Wildcard power there wasn't a lot of worth there. Also it stings like a bitch to see everyone talk about Makoto and saving Makoto and ignoring Clara. Worse than dead, forgotten indeed. I'll just pretend that Shinjiro and Theo are out there trying to save her. Yu's ending tied it all up neatly enough, except that I was expecting a final Velvet Room there. I really do get the feeling they're trying to get Margaret to fill in for Igor since his VA died and all, but it could just be that since Margaret is Yu's attendant she featured for that reason instead.

In the department of wild guesses I'm assuming that the Malevolent Entity's unknown assistant is definitely Adachi. It fits in basically every way. The only people outside the IT who had extensive knowledge of the weaknesses of the IT members were Adachi and Namatame, and I doubt Namatame would really want to help an evil force and he only had access to the opportunity to have that info. I doubt Namatame really took it all in. Adachi, on the other hand, knew them all fairly well, saw their exploits on the Midnight Channel, had the Sagiri inside his brain, is an annoying guy and is certainly the one likely to be helping there. Also the Malevolent Entity seemed to be particularly aware of Yu, and Adachi knew Yu the best of the group. How this Malevolent Entity is connected to the Kirijo Group is sort of uncertain, since it doesn't seem to be human but also considers itself as separate from the gods the player has fought so far. Considering its not human, shadow, god nor anti-shadow weapon, my wildest guess is that this thing is Old Man Kirijo himself. Like, Mitsuru's grampa. As in, whatever went down in that lab affected him and pushed him to a higher plane of evil existence. Certainly fits with his attitude of treating others as objects, but I dunno if he'd pass the chance to take a jab at Mitsuru if that was the case.

I felt Mitsuru and Elizabeth were easiest to play as, but I liked playing as Yu, Akihiko and Labrys the most.

Now to dig up the manga and figure out a coherent version of this game's plot.

Oh, which reminds me: apparently I'm missing 2% even though I beat the game. What gives?

Probably something to do with Yu's choices in his story.

Oh, sweet release from Persona Q trailers! Something different to work on!

I'm on it. Should have it subtitled in a few hours after I get some food in me~

Famitsu article with new Persona Q and P4AU shots.

Describes a couple of the Golden Arena Mode skills, like Absorb Electricity where a character will gradually recover health when paralyzed, or another giving a chance to cause Charm when a physical hit lands.

Edit: Only tangentially related to Persona, but Lotus Juice will be having a concert on May 18.

You are a saint to us English speakers. Now if persona were a Germany brand I'd be right on it.

New ultimax news has gotten me really hyped. Think I'll be importing it day one.

After the new reveals Ultimax is definetly the one game of the three spinoffs that I'm most hyped for.

Going the Chronophantasma way with the story is great since it works so well in that game and the character roster is not looking too shabby either. Atlus and ASW making a lot of sound decisions right now.

Cheers to Pepsiman as well for continuing to be awesome.

The small % of stuff you're missing is probably something to do with dialogue choices, or missing a joke ending somewhere.

In terms of the spoiler,
it's more suggestive that the ME is Nyarlthotep than anyone else. Important to note that in both versions, they actually got the same VA for the part from the P2 games to play that role in Arena, and him doing that in Arena is very reminiscent of his MO as well. I still say that since Philemon's imagery(butterfly) is there in both modern Persona games, that I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Nyarly's hands were in the plots of both games as well. Can definitely see his influence being what corrupts Mitsuru's grandfather to get that ball rolling, for example. Plus it explains the shadows in the Arena games being able to use Personas in the first place.

Or like Vergil's Spiral Swords / Rose's Soul Satellite. Maybe more like the former than Ouroboros if no projectiles shoot from them.

Yeah. I can't wait to use her now. I also noticed that Atlus reuploaded the first 2 trailers of Ultimax to their channel. I think from now on, they're are going to push Ultimax like they have been doing with Q.

Yeah. At least, as I had thought, April's the month where P4U2 starts really being promoted alongside Persona Q. The Persona Channel's header has been replaced by P4U2, where it was PQ's place before.

Should be seeing Ken in less than 27 hours, unless all the hints up to now have been red herrings.

Isn't it also possible for them to just want to have that reveal be a little bit later, instead of now? I mean, we only know about Ken because of that leak, and most of the "hype" comes from an actual character reveal anyway. I mean, hearing it was Rise had different tones than now suddenly seeing screens and vids of her in action.

Whens the stalker club episode airing? And am I right in assuming that the Arcade version is being patched tomorrow with Rise?

Here's something interesting.

http://p-atlus.jp/p4u2/character/

Under characters, there are two blank spaces. One would assume that Ken and Shadow Ken will fill in the remaining places. Then again you have to wonder why Shadow Yuka-tan, Junpei, and both Sho's are missing.

Too much stuff was coming together pointing to Ken being revealed this week and not just the leak.

- First there was my analysis of character height from the PSC #3 preview. I had concluded that the right character's height approximated Ken's closer than anyone else's. As it turns out, the character on the left's height approximates Rise's, though I had ignored comparing it with hers before the Best Buy leak because I had never considered she would be playable.

- Then there was the Best Buy leak naming Ken and Rise as playable characters in Ultimax. Seeing how Rise was arguably the most unlikely of the two, it's probably safe to assume that everything about that leak was legitimate.

- Immediately following that, there was the P4U2 site notice hyping an update on the 24th as well as the Famitsu article, which Ken Amada's voice actress was quick to retweet about.

Basically, I'm willing to bet that Ken will be shown very soon.

We don't know exactly when they will upload the PSC episode. Sometime in the next 26-27 hours.

No, you're actually totally wrong in assuming that because Rise has not been announced as an arcade character in any capacity. The only part of the recent announcements that will be patched in 1.10 should be Golden Arena Mode.

Yeah, it's hard to assume anything from the character list because both Rise and Shadow Rise are there, but there's nothing for the other new ones except for plain pages for normal Junpei and Yukari.

My subtitles are dooooooone~

That was super fun. I always have a great time working on Arena trailers, especially when it comes to fighter titles that the announcer comes up with. I will say that one line was a little bit icky due to background noise and while I'm 95 percent sure it's correct, you never know, I might end up changing it. It's super minor in the grand scheme, though, so we'll see.

Enjoy!

If Rise and Ken will not appear in the arcade version, then yeah, I agree with you. We still have over 4 months to go, and they'll want to keep the hype going.

But if they will be in the arcade, I can see them being announced together and added in the same update. Sooner release means more balance testing before the console release.

Mmmm, so good. Thanks so much for always doing these. :D

So yeah, the town goes to shit, and Rise sees that she's going to need to be "saved" again, gets fed up, and her Persona evolves slightly so she can do other things besides be a nagivator. I wonder if her ability to be a navigator goes down because of this decision?

It's a multilayered joke, actually. 完全変態 can either mean "complete pervert" or "complete metamorphosis" depending on how you read the last two characters. This is almost certain intentional given the nature of Rise's character development and her Shadow. I'm never one to translate stuff like those titles literally because they're meant to be facetious in Japanese anyway, so I went with the one that I did after some deliberation because I thought it was a decent way to play up both her sensuality and her imperfection in English. Very curious to see how Atlus USA handles it!

Nice one Pepsiman.

As for Rise/Ken's inclusion in the arcade version, I think that's likely, right? I mean, they'll want to see the characters don't completely break the balance before they put the retail game out, no?

If that's the case, I guess Ken's reveal will be pretty soon.

That said, I have no idea how this works, so maybe I'm wrong on this.

ASW didn't do that with Kagura, Terumi or Kokonoe for BBCP. They were added to the arcade version after the console release.

Had no idea this thread was full of Chie apologists. Chie "I'll Protect You" Satonaka, as useful as a hardhat and half the personality.

I'm late, but what the fuck is this shit im reading here?

The funnieset I've seen from the Persona side in terms of VA in other stuff are
Tatsuya Suou (Takehito Koyasu)

As Ryouji "Ranka" Fujioka from Ouran High School Host Club

lol

And, this is more dubbing role than an anime role, but found this little titbit amusing.
Teddie (Kappei Yamaguchi)

As Corey Matthews from Boys Meet World

dead

I love knowing more about this things, they are really interesting.

Rise's trailer looks super cool. I probably won't end up using her too much, but the fact that they seem to have given her a fittingly stylish moveset puts some of my qualms to rest.

The main difference between regular characters and their Shadows are a different autocombo and Burst vs. Shadow Rush, yes? If so, wouldn't Shadows be at a massive disadvantage because of their lack of bursts?

No, that's too reductive. Feel like I've posted this many times before, but eh:
- Shadow characters are unable to Burst or enter Awakening mode.
- They can activate their normal version's Awakening super by spending 100 SP.
- They are able to initiate "Shadow Fury" by pressing A+B+D and spending 100 SP.
- During this mode, Shadow characters have a limited meter that gives them access to certain specials.
- Shadow characters maintain their level of SP between rounds.
- Shadow characters use the auto combos of the previous game and not the new ones given to their normal version's.
- The damage of Shadow characters is reduced by 20% compared to the normal versions.

Changes from 1.1:
- Maximum vitality of Shadow characters greatly increased.
- Awakened SP Skills can now be used at 50 cost of the SP Gauge.
- During Shadow Fury, the SP consumption of One More! Cancels and all Guard Cancels has been reduced by half.
- When activating Shadow Fury from a standing position, the opponent can now move.
- However, the Shadow Fury motion is completely invincible. Activation as a cancel works the same as before.

They were at a slight disadvantage before, but 1.1 will buff them considerably and will probably make them far more prevalent.

Also, normal characters can't do this.

I don't know if it was already confirmed since you guys were debating the veracity of that Gematsu bit about there being story DLC, but those old trailers that they put up with the Rise trailer have bulletins at the end that confirm it. I only noticed because someone on YouTube asked me if I was going to bother to sub those again and I thought I'd check just to make sure. So yeah.

That was confirmed through the Famitsu ad:
But yeah, they did put amended "CS" versions of those preview trailers for the DLC and the release date.

???

But Rise starts in a different location by the looks of things?

The story would still jump from character to character in a linear and natural fashion, from the perspective of the entire Investigation Team, in Rise's case.

Thanks for translating the new P4AU trailer, Pepsiman-- always appreciate it! :D

I'm so excited now that the P4U2 website has been updated; new graphics to rip, and it actually feels like things are getting into gear on a game that isn't PQ. Not that I mind all the PQ love, but for me Ultimax is probably my most anticipated new title apart from P5.

I am very interested to see what prompts Himiko's change; hopefully it will ring true and not feel like just an excuse to get Rise into the fray. As long as they make it fitting with the rest of the series, I'll be A-OK with the whole thing. Now let's see how Ken has changed since P3, and maybe bring in some other new characters... ;)

Regardless, still going to main Yukari, because obviously.

Yes, but the dialogue in that trailer seemed to imply like it was being told from Rise's perspective and that the P4 gang had either been kidnapped or were being held up inside the tower.

It seems that the "captives" will be reversed depending on which side you play. Rise was talking with Fuuka in what appeared to be the beginning of her story mode, whereas what we've known of the story has said that the P3 team was kidnapped.

Concerning Rise's title, I think I'd go with "The Super-Star Super-Freak". I still think "freak" is closer to the weird sexual implications from an english standpoint.
