Looks like all digital PSP / PSone games work on Vita now [Not Anymore]

According to the US Playstation site, you can still buy Brave Story via download as well (the link takes you to the store page with the game unavalible for sale)

I don't think they even bother keeping that site updated

I bought mgs: portable ops the other day, but didn't dl it to the vita yet. Fuck me. I still have a ps3, so hopefully I can somehow transfer it from there.

What's funny is you can still buy size matters in the us through that despite it being delisted like 3 years ago.

This is kind of my perspective on the matter.

  • There was no announcement about these titles coming. Zero advertising.
  • The games weren't viewable from the Vita's SEN store directly.
  • The games weren't able to be copied from a PS3 over to a Vita.
  • The PS Blog post for the weekly store update didn't aknowledge their existence.
  • Direct tweets to people at Sony resulted in radio silence, aside from Yosp who seemed genuinely surprised.
  • The only way to get them copied over was via a workaround we uncovered and exploited on GAF.

  • Agreed
  • I will agree however I did not check
  • I do not have a PS3 so cannot comment on this
  • Agreed
  • Agreed
  • Disagree - I bought the games the same way I buy most of my vita titles - i logged into the website - added them to by basket and paid for them then clicked 'download to my vita'

When searching for PSP titles I searched by name (using some of the ones posted earlier in this thread) and those titles showed as PSP / Ps Vita

I did not use any 'exploit' or 'trick' to buy these titles and get them on my Vita , I bought them via the website and hit the download button.

If you used other means to get them on then that's fine however I did not.

(Note : I'm based in the UK using a UK account which may explain why my experience was different to yours but when I look on the website now *most* of those titles no longer list Vita as an option)

  • There are reports that there was a Crash Bandicoot banner on the Vita store the week before the glitch. This led to people suggesting the glitch was on purpose and we all should have known and purchased the games during the flash sale.

Wow, glad Sony sent me back my Vita in time to download a few games last night.

This should be a feature though.

I would understand if this had to do with distribution rights, but clearly it isn't the case since games like GT PSP are involved.

Shameful lack of communication from Sony and shady policies for unknown reasons.

for the new page... anyone who cares

well let's ask Sony to look into this?
I mean #PS4noDRM did help them at the negotiating table right?

so let's try
#VITAnoLicenseLock
#EndLicenseLock
#FreeOurGamesOnVita

@yosp
@amboyes
@giocorsi
@shahidkamal

the point is not to blame Sony. as many have already said, they don't and can't control the entire license agreement. but with all the downloads from this glitch + if we make ourselves heard, I think Sony does have a good case to negotiate with the publishers to rethink about this

"hey look, gamers want this, people are willing to spend money to buy older games, shall we work things out?"

I'm not ready to burn down Sony or anything, but they seriously need to make some kind of statement about this. Can't sweep it under the rug like it never happened.

Also, I'd be curious to know how many people purchased digital PSP games in the hopes of playing them on their Vita and not owning a PSP. They'd be screwed out of some money right there.

That game has a billion car licenses to deal with, and they probably only licensed them for use on PSP. It's probably why Gran Turismo 1 and 2 never came out as PS1 classics even though they were Sony games and among the most popular titles on PSX

Well, that makes sense.

The amount of entitlement here is insane. It was a glitch, meant to NEVER happen.

Look at the banners, the website and everything else. They were listed for PSvita and not everyone goes through every little bit of these topics to ha e thought it was a glitch. To call someone entitled for that is just plain wrong and its honestly weird to see people defending a company like that. Some people legitimately played for games and just had those games taken away, but hey I must be entitled since I should've known it was a glitch.

I really enjoy my Sony systems, but sometimes they make huge mistakes, it doesn't mean you need to go blaming it on other people and calling them entitled just because you assume everyone is digging and reading every topic. I'm pretty sure Sony will right everything in the end whether that's refunds or putting the games back up, but to call people entitled over this... Is just wrong.

god damn, i wanted to play all the crash / spyro games on the go..............

1) Get a second / blank Vita memory card
2) Create a UK PSN account and login to that on your vita with that new card
3) Buy £ PSN codes from Amazon.co.uk
4) Login to the UK PSN store and buy the games

Swap to this card if you want to play those on the go - stick with your other card if you want to play on your US tag.

Question - I know some of the titles were available for the EU before but I assume no one has a list ?

I'm pretty sure that Pac-Man CE was *not* compatible before - but it was changed to show as compatible and here in the UK its still showing as available for the Vita

I know not all titles are like this as Burnout yesterday showed PSP / PS Vita on the store and now shows PSP only

This is super fucked up. :(
At least I was able to download the first Spyro game to my Vita before this happened.

Thankfully I didn't buy any games BECAUSE I thought I could put them on Vita, but I did really want to pick up Metal Gear PO because of this "glitch", and now it looks like I won't be.

Swapping regional cards is such a pain on Vita though. It's not as simple as just switching the cards from my understanding :[

It was never advertised, so I'm not even mad. I am however going to continue to pester Yosp to get SE to bring Crisis Core to PSN.

There really isn't an argument against the defense other than people being ignorantly bitter, though

The web store listed all this software as Vita compatible. Anyone who bought these games for play on Vita under those pretenses is entitled to a refund. To argue against that is being willfully obtuse and a corporate apologist.

There are reports that there was a Crash Bandicoot banner on the Vita store the week before the glitch. This led to people suggesting the glitch was on purpose and we all should have known and purchased the games during the flash sale.

Suggesting those of us who were upset cause we didn't buy during the sale should have known by vague clues I think is a lot more unreasonable than those suggesting this was a glitch and you should have known (honestly, that's why I hadn't bought anything yet because I didn't see Sony's store advertising them as Vita nor did I see it show up on the Vita store and I was kinda paranoid if I bought them they would take it away when they fixed it. I was waiting for official confirmation of which there was none. The one regret I have is it sounds like if you downloaded it to your Vita it still works and it hasn't been erased remotely <- don't know if Sony would do that but Amazon has before. I think it would have been worth it for Gran Turismo if as long as I kept it on my memory card I'd have it).

Honestly, in this case I didn't see any case of Sony advertising that they were available for Vita and I specifically held off because of that. So, it seems more like it was unknown if it was a glitch, Sony never claimed that they were offering it, and some how people now think Sony lied to them.

It sounds like it is most likely a licensing problem which some of it is out of Sony's hands (For some stuff, why is Gran Turismo locked, isn't that their own IP?). Though I really don't know why the companies who refuse to license it for Vita refuse to. I can't imagine it costs them much money to allow it and it's potential more sales. I know I would buy that Gran Turismo game if it was available for Vita but I'm not buying a PSP just for it. THat's lost money right there. Anyways, I'm more upset that this was just a glitch because honestly, it would have been a great move. I was already trying to sell people on the Vita by being able to say *all* PSP games that are available digital rather than some/most (all sounds a helluva lot better). And managing to convince a few (granted they already were thinking about it :). I'm not going to random people and trying to encourage them but if some one asks if they should get a Vita, I'll definitely give my opinion).

The fact that nothing was announced or acknowledged by Sony themselves says it all. You couldn't legitimately buy the games directly through the Vita either. They payed for the games full knowing that this was not an official policy or update or whatever you want to call it. The games aren't taken away, just the method and system that was used as a work-around to get these games.

I personally saw this stuff on my download list as Vita friendly, but if they had this software listed under Vita as playable through the web store then, yeah, they're going to be refunding a few people today.

I don't think this story got terribly wide spread, but it was still a bonehead situation to end up in.

Vita has no good news for months and then this happens. People get excited about the Vita again and start buying games - even if they are PS1/PSP games. You think Sony would be happy about it. Nope. They kill it. Hopefully they enable it again soon

True.
I saw this thread and I was hyped but I am sure we all knew this was going to be pulled since it wasn't officially announced, especially when everyone started reporting it.
of course Sony removed it.

How did this take like three days before being resolved?

Are all employees at Sony busy smoking crack instead of doing any work? Seems that way.

Games become playable on Vita -> Person buys game to play on Vita -> Game stops being playable on Vita before they could download it -> Person is upset.

That person is ignorantly bitter? I'd say it's a lot more accurate to say they are justifiably bitter. Just because someone isn't as cool headed, patient, or as in-the-know about behind the scenes PSN glitches as you appear to be it doesn't make them ignorant.

good news!

i know, i know, it's not a vita.
I had no idea so many people wanted to own a PSP Go until this thread.
Because that's what it boils down to. All of this content is still accessible on a handheld via that system.
Who knew that people were excited about playing these titles on a better screen with a better D-Pad and a better analog stick?

As for why all of these licenses magically still work on PSP but not on Vita, well...
You know, a better company would have a Community rep out there in the wild to explain this situation to us.

There's a reason why Grace Chen time is a thing for SCEA... and isn't a thing for every other gaming company on the face of the Earth (including SCEE and SCEJ).

Is it possible that it was an E3 surprise that got turned on early by accident?

Not a chance, it's a gigantic licensing issue. This is why some were saying this was "too good to be true" when the "glitch" happened. The idea that Sony would overcome the licensing barrier for every single PSP / PSONE game on PSN and suddenly make them accessible on Vita made no sense.
