My PS4 isn't recognizing my USB stick. What should I be formatting it to?

Sorry if this has been asked already.
FAT32... NTFS didn't work because it is proprietary.

OP. Installed in seconds... really fast and small updade... no issue... UI way faster.

HDMI from PS4 to TV then Optical from TV to home theater.

That wouldn't work on any setup. (Only 1% of tvs out there will passthrough the DD signal)

You need optical to go from PS4 to home theater. (Since I'm assuming your receiver doesn't support hdmi)

Use optical directly from the PS4 to the receiver to get surround sound. Optical out from TVs rarely forwards HDMI sound in anything but regular stereo, likely due to copyright reasons (hdmi is protected, optical is not).

I thought you lost surround on a setup like this?

You do. I don't think I've seen any TVs that will pass through Dolby or DTS through the TV. He'd need to go from the PS4 to the receiver direct via optical in this situation.

What would the point of giving an HDTV an optical port be if it couldn't do passthrough? It would almost be reliant on pass through.

HDTVs have optical ports to output audio from OTA broadcasts mainly. But that's an entirely different beast from passing through

Not true. My Vizio does, passes 5.1 Dolby through its optical port. I don't have a receiver but a Sonos center speaker and rear surrounds. Sonos confirms it is receiving a 5.1 Dolby signal.

Edit: Vizio Model M701D-A3R

It must be on a TV to TV basis, then. My Sony and my in-laws Mitsubishi definitely don't.

It keeps telling my that my USB device isn't connected no matter how I formatted. I even tried a different external USB HDD and that didn't work either. Am I missing something? Is there some setting I have to turn on or folder I have to setup?

Don't ask me, ask manufacturers.

The only sets I know that do HDMI passthrough are a few Sony TV's and even then, that's only with Dolby and no DTS.

Is it just me or is the boot from standby now instantaneous?

No, its same as before. Sometimes PS4 does not shut down completely when it works on something. But most of the time it will go to full standby mode, where it requires 20-30 secs for wake up boot.

update sounds pretty good. i'll definitely install it once i get home from work tonight. i really wish they would have added 3d blu ray support though. hopefully that comes soon...

Mine has never been that slow even when leaving it for a long period of time. Takes about 8 - 10 seconds for me.

Wow, seems a pretty awesome update! :)

Sadly there is some things they need to do:
-Add pause download options.
-Add an option to organize your apps freely (possibility to create folders would be even better).
-Fix automatic video recording. Since, at my system and others that already related that, it just record the 1st 15 minutes of your gameplay (and then you need to mannualy put it to record if you want something later then this).

Faster UI navigation and USB uploads are really great thoug!

Yup, just use the optical straight to your receiver. Had surround sound since day 1 that way.

It wouldn't surprise me if the automatic recording was fixed now, what with all the sharing work they've done.

For broadcast TV.
Almost no tvs will passthrough via optical.

Ah, thanks for the clarification guys!

Audio Settings: You can now force the PS4 to output 5.1 channel audio over HDMI even if it detects 7.1 channel support.

this^
it is working harible with my Harman kardon 5.1 cinema set. when i was turning my back to someone who was talking his voice was getting muted (this is happening in SS) and many time the whole dialoge was not coming out of my center speaker or any speaker. in SS, in AC4 and shadow fall. i had to restart my reciver to make it work again. annoying as hell.

So I was extremely impressed this morning. My PS4 was in standby overnight and when I turned it on this morning it prompted me to install 1.70 right away. I was having issues with updates in standby previously so this right away was awesome.

A lot of people are saying that they had to chase Share Factory down in the App Store but I had a tile right next to What's New as if it was already installed. When I hovered over it you could see the download arrow in the bottom right. I clicked on it and it started right away.

And the OS is getting pretty damn fast.

Hmm maybe I'm misremembering.
Well when I timed it at launch I got avg. 3 seconds to homescreen... Standby to Killzone menu in less than 15 seconds.

I will made more tests again.

20 seconds is my cold boot... Standby is way way faster... 3 seconds most if time.

So why's the store the same in EU? It's as bad as it was when it was first released and I can't pre-order/preload anything.

So it said there was an error when it first restarted after the update but everything seems to be working fine so far. Did this happen to anyone else?

In that case, are you sure your ps4 is sending a DD or DTS signal and not PCM?
There should be a setting for that.

Well I tried changing the Audio Format to bitsteam(dolby) but that didn't work. Just a bit of a hassle if I have to keep changing optical cords in and out of my receiver when I switch between ps3, ps4, and cable
