I totally just did that goddamn reflex thing where I push A immediately after pressing A to start the shot for some sick reason, hnnngh.

Edit: You're really fucked when you miss the barrel. Ouch ouch ouch.

Gave the GAF tourney a try and got -16. I got a water hazard and then botched the recovery on the last hole so I got a bogey. Nooooooooooo....

P.S. Yoshi Lake challenges were co-developed by SATAN.

Never played Wiggler Park before. That was interesting with the canopy. I'm still adjusting to Daisy's fade.

Played Peach Gardens as Mario.

I hit it basically everywhere but then sank some ridiculous putts, including saving par after going in the water once.

It is a good feeling knowing that putting skill scales extremely well in this game

Okay why does rain have a significant impact on putting strength but the little per cent thing in the corner still says 1%?

That thing is just the RNG. It takes your raw power and then alters it by that percent. In this case it added 1% to your raw power. This has nothing to do with terrain.

It's a good thing because it severely reduces the odds of this game turning into classic Pangya. Unless we want to be competing for like -40ish in the online tourneys.

Where the heck do I go to enter the GAF tourney?
Mario Golf -> Tournaments -> Private Tournament -> Search by Code -> Enter code of choice:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ak9HPe1aps6adEtmNWxlYVk3T0JuaEt0MzZ2OE9JS3c#gid=0

Main one right now is Earlybird. I would start with that since A) it expires first and B) is the easiest to get through with a good score. The speed golf one is a bit harder and Peach's Escape is... slightly more difficult

Are the items that unlock to buy random do we know?
It seems to be "kind of" random. I wouldn't say it's entirely random, unless the explanation as to why the clubs and golf balls I'm unlocking right now are a notable step up over the ones I used to unlock is "Wow, what a coincidence!"

I wouldn't be surprised if there are "tiers" of unlocks for the drivers and golf balls categories, based on how many things you've already unlocked in the boutique.

How to get star for players?

Also I get the DLC but where is Rosalina & Nabit?

Beat them in challenge mode to unlock their star version.

Nabbit and the next two courses will be out later this month. Rosalina and the last two DLC courses comes out next month.

I need to stop playing this. I'm getting way too mad at a golf game. I probably shouldn't have slammed my 3ds down over a putt.

It's just so frustrating to me for some reason. Like this game is designed to make me feel like a piece of shit for putting like a jack ass. I kind of regret buying it digitally because i feel like returning it if I could.

Once I get my hours in, I can handle Eagles every par 5, Birdies everything else minimum.

I'm still unlearning hot shots. In Hot Shots, that is the percent variance you power will be depending on conditions and lie. Perfect conditions off the tee? will probably be 98-100%, In a bunker in the rain? 40%-90% or whatever.

Guess I have to memorize that stuff.

I also noticed that the game tells you exactly where the ball is going to land(not accounting for wind) for the first time. It seems to perfectly account for height difference and the lie angle. Once I get the hang of backspin, this will be very exploitable.

It's easy to pick up and play but hard to master. The game really isn't meant to be 100% complete in a day or two. Just play until you stop having fun and come back to it later.

Yeah. Maybe. I just get too frustrated to get better. Maybe I expected a bit more of a casual experience because right now I'm regretting my purchase a bit. Every hole is a frustration to no end.
Have you tried the practice areas in the Castle Club? They are pretty much designed to help people get good at the game. They'll probably be a bit tough at first, but eventually things should "click" and you should become good enough to at least get through things. The equivalent stuff in Toadstool Tour was actually how I became not-shitty at that game.

Though, if it makes you feel better... A lot of reviewers didn't even unlock one of the Castle Club courses for use in Mario Golf mode because its requirement is fucking hard for most people.

This sounds like a good idea. It's a good game I'm just frustrated at how much I suck since this is my first MG game.

Yeah a bit. But once I feel like I got it I just do some stupid shit during putts or even regular hits. I know I should be using manual for everything right? That's basically the way to play it.. I've gotten the gold on 2 of 3 tournaments in the Castle Club. I'll try more of the practice areas once I feel like playing more of it. Ha. That's the first time I've slammed my 3DS down in frustration though.

I'm such a dope that sometimes I forget to account for wind and just go.

Just tore up the back 9 of the Seaside course although that 18th hole is a bitch to birdie.

Castle Club is a really awesome idea though. I think in future series installments they could definitely flesh it out even further. Still really fun though. I actually like playing as my Mii and normally I hate that.

I've played for 5 hours today. I think it's time to maybe take a break! My wrist hurts :(

Finally beat the extra challenge on the shot practice after probably 20 tries or so. Getting those coins AND getting in the targets is a real pain on some of these...

One round was going well, needed 90 points from the last three shots... chip-in! Turns out chip-ins are 100 points, yay!

Didn't get a thing for completing it, though...

Damn, some of these challenges are tough.

Btw, how do I join the GAF lobby and play with yall?

See this post. Not sure if anyone is playing right now, though.

Is it possible to beef your Mii up to be on par with star characters? I ask so many questions and the game has only been out a few days!

I am wondering that as well. In the GBA version I had my character so leveled up it was obscene, and then imported him into the GC version. It was brutal. I am hoping to do similar in this game.
