Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

Did RS have a lot of post game content? If I remember correctly, there was a shitload more to do than in XY.
Lati@s, S.S. Tidal, Battle Tower, Sky Pillar and a Trick House challenge. That's not counting side stuff like contests.

Emerald added a lot more, like the Battle Frontier, Desert Underpass, Safari Zone expansion, Steven battle, Gym leader rematches, Groudon/Kyogre etc.

The "real" artwork "without his hat on" is one big conspiracy I tell you!

I liked the hatless artwork from the manga.

Guess this means Pokemon Z isn't happening.

I can't say I'm overly excited about these. Ruby and Sapphire were my least favourite Pokemon games by a large margin (though I haven't played Black/White or Black 2/White 2). The map was godawful (a good third of the map was just surfing or diving underwater, which was dull as hell), and the lack of many previous-generation Pokemon felt crippling.

If these remakes don't include not only all the R/B/Y/G/S/C Pokemon, but also all the Pokemon introduced since (ie. D/P/Pl onwards), then they'll be completely redundant. X and Y feel so complete; playing a Pokemon game that's missing a huge chunk of Pokemon will be even more awful now.

Gen 2 is the only extensive post game that's not in a third version/remake.

Gen 2's post game is super overrated. Yes you can go to kanto, but everything in kanto is stupidly under leveled at that point and so you'll speed by it without a challenge. The only postgame part of gold and silver worth more than just nostalgia was Red for being a high level trainer

The Battle Frontier was definitely not an easy task. The gold symbols were hard...

Ruby and Sapphire actually had less. There was just the Sky Pillar with Rayquaza on top, Lati@s roaming around, and the Battle Tower.

Emerald added the Battle Frontier, though.

I find it frustrating and baffling that so many people complain that Nintendo is doing nothing interesting, worthwhile or original with the Wii U, and yet so many people are bouncing off the walls with excitement over Nintendo remaking the worst Pokemon game just a decade after its initial release.

This will be the first Pokemon RPG release I do not buy. Zero interest.

Oh goodness, its almost like those two opinions you just mentioned belong to completely different sets of people!

I'd be surprised if they didn't add new areas with pokemon not found in the originals just like they did with every other remake

Can't wait to run around in dirty soot again.
Alfafa Sootfire ftw!

Also, cant wait to get sand baths.
Also, cant wait to hop on acro bike again.

That was five years ago. Haven't you gotten over it by now?

Not a huge fan of remaking Silver and Gold, but at least there I bought the argument that those games aren't compatible with the rest of the series. Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald are, which makes this pretty hard to swallow.

Gen 2's post game is only extensive in areas to "explore". There is almost zero stuff to do in the post game. Gen 3's post game with the Battle Frontier was miles better.
Ok the more I think about it I don't want that X/Y crap in my RSE :/

The graphis/fps in X/Y were poor, I prefer sprite work, BW2 were very good already.
Also I miss having a better overview where I am.

I was so disappointed with X/Y, I'm just scared they pull another one like this. Think about giving us a challenge GF, give us an aviable Hard mode from the start, with higher levels on the enemies. Give us late game and rebattleable gymfights.
Then go play your RSE and leave us alone, hyping the remakes. No one is forcing you to buy them.

Sugimori said it is a knit cap

It doesn't mean that, at all. FRLG came out before Emerald.
Lalalalalala I don't see or hear anything about him being hatless, his hair is white and he has a headband on!

You mean "it isn't happening this year" right?

Pokemon Z will probably happen. Zygarde has unused attacks in the game's code.

Hopefully they fix all of X and Ys' issues.

But Gamefreak already did that!

Kidding, kidding.

I'm one of those people that does not care about the Wii U yet get excited when a new Pokemon is announced.

I didn't say it was good. I said it's extensive...which it is.

The real post game content splurge in the traditional sense starts with FR/LG with the sevii islands and Elite Four Round 2 and Emerald continues this. Gen 4 and 5 do have a bit more in their first games after you beat the e4 because of that influence, but nowhere near as the amazing stuff in the gen 4 and 5 remakes/third versions/sequels.

Sure, RSE are compatible but you'd have to transfer pokemon 3 times which is way too tedious than its worth plus own several consoles and games.

Yeah, there you go. This isn't some strawman argument I've set up: I know friends and recognize people on this thread who fall into that category. Normally I wouldn't care -- live and let live and all that -- but for some reason Nintendo remaking Ruby and Sapphire bugs me.

Chill dude, I want remakes of RSE, just not in the shitty way X/Y was. ;)

So, has anyone else been on Mirage Island? I've only gone there once and I didn't realize it was that special until years later. I really hope it returns and it's as hard to get there as it used to be. It was almost an urban legend like the rocket and the truck but this was in fact legit.

Only ever been to the Southern island. :(

edit: lol, thought you said Birth; that was the liechi berry island, right?

I remember it. I was kinda disappointed though. The rare berry was cool but all there was on the island was a bunch of wynaut.

Would you want to look like a kid person?
Sure if I were a kid persson.

This coming from someone who has been tall with eternal scowl face all his life , and can appropriate looking like a kid person. And not being taller than your teachers in the 4th grade beyond.

RSE are "compatible" in the sense that you can slowly transfer over Pokemon if you own a DS, a 3DS, a gen 3 game, a gen 4 game, a gen 5 game, and a gen 6 game.

It's kinda like arguing Gen 2 shouldn't get a remake because all those Pokemon were technically obtainable with Emerald, Colosseum, XD, Firered and Leafgreen, etc. People wanted a remake so they could play Gen 2 with improved mechanics, not so they could get the Pokemon.

Well, you're the one being all negative here.

I wouldn't worry much, DP was also "shitty", but they not only fixed it on the third version, but also improved GSC in a lot of ways with HGSS. I am not a dude, btw.

I don't understand what's confusing about a remake. It's a game that people liked and a new generation haven't experienced. That simple.

Pokemon is a highly iterative franchise. Seems like each addition tends to add something. The appeal of new games is new mechanics and new Pokemon. Remakes tend to be about getting to re-experience something you haven't gotten to experience in a long time. Seems to me that most Pokemon games are offering you a very similar experience, so a remake feels redundant. I know it's going to be an unpopular opinion on a thread about Pokemon, but as someone who likes pokemon, but can't bring myself to play every game in the series, I'm trying to understand the appeal of a remake.

The appeal for me is that Hoenn produced flawed but interesting games, and I want to see if they can take everything good about Gen 3 while fixing the bad.

Yes, yes, yes. It's a Pokemon game in a different setting with update graphics and mechanics from the original.

Thanks for the responses!

Storyline reasons,
he's a narcissist and hates showing those scars on his skin. Plus, he's big on fashion/contests/etc, so the hat would be trendy for him.

He looks cooler with the scars doe.

The gen 3 protagonist looks even worse to me now, knowing whats under the hat.

Yep Nintendo really needs cash.
Yep. Stinks of desperation to me, maybe they don't have anything big for Q4 3DS outside this. Perhaps Majora's Mask. Is it normal for Pokemon games to come out a year later? And by that I don't mean things Emerald or whatever the 3rd game following a set of two is out, but a totally new set of games.

Just a decade? There was less time between R/B/G and its remakes and G/S and its remakes than there will be between R/S and theirs.

And lots of kids who may be getting into Pokemon don't have GBAs/the first DS and, thus, have never played Gen 3 or have any way to do so, so this will be the first time for many to experience Hoenn.

Lol, well it's the mangaverse only. I'm pretty sure there aren't any scars underneath the gameverse protag's hat.

Pokémon Adventures/Special is a fun read, granted I've only read the R/S/E chapters.
