I hope SSB Wii U isn't infected with these NFC figurines.
Physical assist trophies, $4.99 a pop.

At the same time, there are not only going to be decorative boxes for video game hardware and packages for software, but also Nintendo character figurines displayed on store shelves. This will provide exposure for Nintendo, play a great role in raising our brand awareness and create more opportunities for consumers to play video games.
frankly i'm not sure if retail will be thrilled about ANOTHER set of plastic toys next to the video games
Do they still sell?
Honest question. I have no idea where skylanders and friends are in the cold, godless cycle of being Tony Hawk'd to death.
I just saw a huge stack of Skylanders Wii U junk in the clearance bin at my local Walmart today.frankly i'm not sure if retail will be thrilled about ANOTHER set of plastic toys next to the video games
Skylanders sells quite well on its own. Disney Infinity is a little trickier, since there's specific figures that sell really well (the Frozen characters, Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey), but a lot of it languishes until its on sale.
Literally, just today, I was thinking: Nintendo is probably the only company that could get me to buy little figures to use in video games.
You magnificent bastards.
I'm definitely interested in some figures, but only if there's an interesting game attached to it.
aw yiss official rosalina waifu figure

I think it'd be cool if the figurines unlocked costumes in Smash Bros. All about finding the right reward balance.

It's a set of games that you can use a Nintendo figurine in to store and transfer data.I've read a lot of the posts in this thread, read the announcement on a separate website, and I still don't understand exactly what this is. Keep in mind, I also have no clue what kind of games the Skylander or Disney games are.
Skylanders is...I guess platform and brawler is probably the best way to describe it. Adventure too mostly. There's a beginning and end goal for each level, with certain requirements to "complete" a level; do this, don't die, find all of X collectable etc. Swap Force refined the levels and added 2 extra modes; Time Attack (finish in a certain amount of time) and Points (rack up points for attacking, etc). Thanks man! that was useful but i've got another question, hope you dont mind
What kind of gameplay is it(i mean skylanders cause its the closest we can releate this nintendo nfc game so far), is it adventure? brawler? story driven?
and how much content does the digital stuff has?
animal crossing neighbors figures... geez
That would be amazing.
Did they confirm an actual NFC centric game/new IP ala Skylanders? Their report only states that NFP stuff will be compatible with current and future titles like an extra feature or something.

Both. If I read it correctly.
Skylanders are good (Swap-Force is darn great); Infinity is a mixed bag as a game, but the Toy Box to create stuff is really nice.If skylanders and Disney can make bank with figurines for garbage games, I'm sure Nintendo can make some decent money also.
That and the fact that they've stated multiple times that they want to start alowing the use of credit cards through NFC. So it could be talk about Rumble, some about Skylanders Trap Team and Disney Infinity 2.0, some mention of some internal projects and a late 2014 eShop update to allow credit cards that use it.I don't doubt they could have one, but I'm not seeing where they state that there's going to be a reveal of a new NFP-based game at E3 like OP claims.
"At E3 to be held in L.A. this June, we will announce which titles are compatible with NFP, display NFP products and disclose more specific information about NFP, which will be launched during this year-end sales season."
Sounds like they're talking about already released games being compatible, and maybe future titles like smash bros.
I'm out. Collect-to-play games frustrate me as they're a transparent cashgrab. Maybe Nintendo will price it (or the figurines) accordingly and the game itself will be something special, but eh, I'm not interested. My interest in video games does not come from plastic trinkets and I find no entertainment in heading to a store to buy a tiny little Super Mario Guy.
Will be following to see how it pans out though. I don't necessarily believe a Nintendo NFC game has no place in the market, but I think they're starting on rough footing due to the Wii U's awful market penetration and rapidly decreasing shelf space. Not that they intended for it to be that way, of course. 3DS might be the saving grace there.
Would you still have this stance if the characters were Mass Effect action figures?I'm out. Collect-to-play games frustrate me as they're a transparent cashgrab. It won't need an outlet. The Skylanders one doesn't.Would you still have this stance if the characters were Mass Effect action figures?
I don't know how well a 3DS iteration of this will work if you need a separate dongle; either take lower margins bundling it in with figurines or hope an accessory sells. Will be awful if it needs to be plugged into a power outlet as well.

Skylanders and Disney Infinity include portals that use batteries and interact with the 3DS through IR.Would you still have this stance if the characters were Mass Effect action figures?
