I took the ninth off. I'll be watching the conferences with my fellow Tinychatters. I'll probably crack open some Cigar City's Maduro, and maybe some honey whiskey when it comes to Sony.

Actually, I may pick up St. Bernard the night before. Fridge it. And I'll drink that all day along with the Maduro. You know what? I'll do that.

There's absolutely no pattern in Zelda subtitles. Shards of Nightmare is dark and probably fake but don't say it can't happen.

If we had told you The Wind Waker after Majora's Mask or The Minish Cap, nobody would have believed it. So let's wait.

Of course there is a pattern. The names revolve around the main gameplay gimmick/theme:

Skyward Sword (motion controls)
Between Worlds (wall merge)
Four Swords (multiplayer)
Spirit Tracks (train)
Phantom Hourglass (Ocean Temple)
Minish Cap (mini Link)
Majora's Mask (masks)
Ocarina of Time (time travel)
A Link to the Past (dark world)
and the more vague Twilight Princess which refers to Midna and is connected to the twilight realm / wolf form.

Here's how you can reason. You could have made a guess back when Wii Sports Resort launched that Zelda Wii would be based around wm+ as many of those mechanics made sense, even stuff like throwing bombs like the basketball game and the skydiving intro in hindsight. Also there was this Aonuma comment about how his kid logically came to the conclusion that the next Zelda would take place in the sky after being in the sea (boat) and on land (train). So if you connect the two likely themes of the title, motion controls and the sky, you can guess the ballpark. Skyward Sword is still impossible to predict specifically though.

I think Zelda U's subtitle might be connected to multiplayer (Aonuma comment) and asymmetry (gamepad). So for example the name might have plural form similar to Four Swords and regarding the gameplay theme perhaps there is a mirror world this time around were some evil dude is doing something in his realm that indirectly affects the world Link lives in. The premise is that they can't figure out the reason why the world is spontaneously collapsing around them but then find portals to this alternate reality. From a gameplay perspective one player is doing something in one of the realms using the gamepad, the other uses the TV and they both need to coordinate to solve puzzles. What would be an apt subtitle for this Zelda? Maybe something that uses the word Shadow, as in the shadow projection from one dimension onto the other. Shadow is closely connected to Nightmare, as in something that doesn't exist in reality and Shards is a word that is in plural form, oh shiet maybe it's true. That means... we are getting SotN 2 omg!!

The important thing to remember about 3D Zelda titles is that from Wind Waker onward, they're all grade school jokes about bodily functions or sex.

Wind Waker. Damn those bean burritos...
Twilight Princess. Yep, she sure was.
Skyward Sword. Time to fap.

Based on these, I predict the next title will be "The Gaping Chasm".

I'm hoping we see more collaborations with other developers, for leasing their IP, on the scale of the Gamecube era. Hopefully this time they will make wiser decisions on the type of developers for each game, to play to their strengths. I'm still unsure about Hyrule Warriors, having never played a Dynasty Warriors game.

Isnt nintendo's conference the 10th?

I have a feeling this could happen

What's wrong with it? As long as it's done by a good team, Shinen has proven they can make a good futuristic racer and they know how to make good use of the Nintendo hardware

Many Nintendo IPs have that sense of magic and personality and overall polish that I don't think can be achieved the same way from outside sources.

Shinen are tech geeks that really push hardware but they're still not in the upper echelon of design and intangibles.

You wouldn't give them a big Nintendo platformer after the slick but generic Jett Rocket games.

I know a racing game isn't the same as Mario but while I can see them making an easily more-than-competent futuristic racing game, I feel something would be lacking.

I'm really excited for FAST Racing Neo but would rather they make their own games than tackle on some "legendary" IP.

Very rarely do I think outsourcing comes anywhere close to the "real deal".

I had the same feeling that something would be lacking but then I though hey it is just F-Zero that game has never been very deep with Nintendo Magic or charm imo

also if fans want F-Zero so bad that they are willing just to slap the name on FAST Racing Neo something is really wrong with that IP

This may not be true with every case, but I'd probably agree in regards to Shinen. All of their games are lacking in personality. Their art styles are very generic. Like you said, the intangibles. I suppose you could get a few select people from Nintendo to help with those things. Maybe. But then what's the point of having Shinen do it in the first place?

Man I really hope I can get into the hype train! One ticket please!!

I really wish I could take two days free for the conference, but alas I can't. At least this time they'll have it on youtube (right?) so I'll be able to watch it in some way. Really want to see more of X and hopefully something about Fire Emblem x Shin Megami!

i really would like to have another Zelda in the Wind Waker style on console, maybe with Tetra as the main character exploring the Hyrule seas. I just dont like the DS Zeldas...

You guys also forget that shin'en are literally like 5 guys, they can make a game look good, but it sure isnt going to have much in the way of presentation which is what will truly sell you guys on a next gen F-zero.

And they have made it clear several times, that while they love working for Nintendo systems, they aren't interested in having big budgets or a publisher.
They want to do what they do and nothing else.
And I love them for it.
I've loved Shinen since Iridion 3D. I've bought every game since then.

Two things from that list, eh?

I'll take Baten Kaitos 1+2 HD (just so I can replay the first game for the third game and FINALLY get around to playing the second game)

and

Skies of Arcadia HD (again, a game I missed out on)

That's a really different opinion from my own. F-Zero and Star Fox both creatively derive from Takaya Imamura of EAD. The man has a very different character creation style and I think it's part of the reason the Star Fox and F-Zero universes are so beloved. Both are also admired for their wonderful soundtracks and science fiction spin.

F-Zero has always had soul and I don't think it's easy for a developer to make a good one. Do you know how many people / companies worked on F-Zero GX? It was insane.

well you did name two Nintendo IPs that I am the least excited about
Star Fox has more character development than F-Zero I don't remember much character in F-Zero were they not just a static menu stat sheet of the racer with a little bio?

GX was my favorite F-Zero, I don't hate these IPs but I don't remember much depth or at least I never felt invested in the characters as I have seen a lot of F-Zero hype over the years, with people just wanting to see the IP return

I would scream my head off for Waverace to return swoon but shrug if F-Zero made a come back

F-Zero x Wonderful 101 mix could be interesting to me
F-Zero with crazy trash talking characters would be very pleasing to me.

I'm so excited for that X story trailer and official name reveal. There's not a doubt in my mind that they'll reveal its true identity, at last.

Bronetta

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
After all this time, X being called something else would feel weird.

You know what off the wall revival it's time for?

Ogre Fucking Battle

The Wii U game pad is perfects for OB's gameplay. This needs to happen. NEEDS TO HAPPEN.

Throw in a new 1080, Waverace, Fzero...whatever else and some indie stuff (with a renewed focus on VC support) and you basically have my perfect console.
Also get G.rev, Treasure and Cave to make some SHMUPS

I understand your point but FZero GX was outsourced and it came out brilliantly so it can be done
