Wolfenstein: The New Order |OT| They put Nazis on the Moon, Scheiß auf den Mond!

Thanks for the impressions. Is the gunplay as good as the videos made it seem? If so, you make it sound like that aspect doesn't manage to make up for other shortcomings? I ask this because you seem just mildly amused and I was personally hoping for just a bit more out of this game in the sense of getting the first great fucking shooter in quite a while.
Gunplay is pretty good, the enemies react nicely, though I feel the sound-design of the weapons is a bit underwhelming. Again, it's just not an incredibly memorable game to me, the only aspects that elevate it above mediocrity is the concept, story and characters. It plays fine and all, but it just doesn't do anything we haven't seen before. It's a fun little time-waster though, there's many shooters I've had less fun with than this.

If this ends up being worse than Wolf 09 I'll skip it. I played that game back then but wasn't exactly fond of it. RTCW is still my favorite Wolfenstein, both SP and MP.

C'mon man, I've preordered via PSN. I CAN'T CANCEL THAT SHIT!

Why would you ever do that?

I dont see how any game could be worse than the mess that was W09...

I wouldn't doubt it. I didn't think the WW2 level and the asylum level I played were that great. If the game gets worse than these opnening parts then that would not be a good sign.

As long as I get to turn people into a fine red mist I think Ill be perfectly happy.

Was not satisfied with the gunplay at all in 2009...

Out of all the complaints about 2009 I'm surprised about this one. The gunplay in 2009 was absolutely superb for me, so much so it's probably one of my favourite shooters from last gen (along with RAGE and FEAR). I am still however disappointed they didn't have a shotgun in 2009, my only complaint with it really.

This was the only thing I found redeeming about the game...

Didnt care for the setting too much either in regards to all the supernatural / occult stuff.

For what it's worth people I've been hearing from people with review copies / broken streetdate stuff that it's quite good. Much better than the impressions we're getting ITT right now.

See, I didn't think FEAR was that great either due to the awful gun motions and ugly models. The way the weapons moved around the screen made them feel flimsy and weightless. Just my opinion, obviously, as I know many folks loved it.

Rage, though, had awesome gunplay.

Jeez, I hope so. Was really looking forward to it as my next game and the impressions were sucking away all my enthusiasm.

Rage also had the best shotgun in a long time.

Yeah everyone who was playing the game yesterday and posting feedback seemed to really like it...today it seems like no one does =\

I want to play the game but don't have i7 .
Isn't it a little steep requirement ?

Yes. The i7 is just overcompensation in system requirements and stupid. Game will probably run perfectly at 60fps on awide range of CPUs. idTech5 is not demanding at all, hence why it generally looks like shit.

It's all good! It just surprised me but then I love 2009 :p Weapons and feedback though is such a personal thing I don't blame anyone for preferring one FPS over another etc.

Oh and I highly recommend the survival mod for RAGE - just an arena, some weapons and a shitload of enemies. Tis fun! :p I must take a look and see if I can get a mod that just gives you everything at the start, I'd love to run through RAGE again with all the weapons at my disposal.

It's the same people - they've just gotten further into the game.

Well The Perfect Dark at least, not sure about the other guy.

Had someone who basically finished say it gets better as it goes which is pretty contrary to what tpd is saying. IDK. I just want to get stuck in.

Man some of you people take one persons perspective to heart huh? Im almost certain i'll enjoy it, since I enjoyed Wolf 09/Rage but wont know for sure until I play it.

this and thank you

People give FEAR2 so much shit but it easily has the better gunplay, weapon modeling, and sound design.

RAGE is just on a whole 'nother level and it's weapon SFX are probably still some of the best from last generation. Specifically if you're playing the PS3 version which, for whatever reason, has a substantially fuller soundtrack. Chalk it up to blu-ray and increased capacity I guess...

Dunno about yesterday, but its not a bad game, its not a great one either, I personally liked Wolf 09, a lot of people here seem to hate it...This one is a classic 90s shooter we should be able to pass some time with it till the big ones hit...

I'm curently at lvl 9 of
16
and I really like it. Weapons are cool and the stealth part works. The Charakterdevelopement is nice, too.

And on top oft that the story is better than most shooter's.

Nothing revolutionary but still alot of fun

Ugh.. Now I'm torn.

I really wanted an ultra violent fast pace old school shooter with very little lull in the action.

Its still that in sections...I have a major issue of how the soldiers dont feel weighty, they look like blobs floating about, a thing which I had an issue with in RAGE as well...COD also has a similar thing, I guess its the engine that's to blame here

It does look like a dated last gen game at times...

Guess what I started playing last night on PSN randomly?

Wolf3D

man, that game just doesn't age (^___^)

Only thing that bothers me is that the music tempo sounded dramatically slowed from the original PC version

This is tough I'm staring at the game in my Amazon cart right now and have a $50 gift card.

On one hand, from watching some of the streams and impressions, seems like super bloody and fast paced, old-school shootin'.

On the other, it seems like this will be $30 by the end of June.

It's amazing how I know that, yet the launch day impulse buy creep never fails. I also am thinking I want to stay up all night on Tuesday playing Transistor and this off and on.

Side Quest Question:

Anyone found the wedding ring in the headquarters your supposed to bring to one of the survivors? I can end the level by giving Anya the note, but didn't find it anywhere. Drives me nuts.

I don't think I'm going to play this game again. I'll finish it and then sell it. Great first half, absolutely terrible second half.

To be honest, I've never used it lol. It's useless to me (especially when you fight against Nazis with rocket launchers).
I hate rocket launchers.

Edit: the game is not shit or bad now but I really liked the level design and atmosphere of the first chapters.

Enemies are limited in the game unless one raises alarms...I would still say its quite fun so far and not a terrible game but not a great one either and I would still say pick this for last gen systems because it really feels it was designed for last gen not this one

That makes zero sense. If I have a PS4 and a PS3, am I gonna get it on PS3? Of course not! 1080p/60 FPS/better graphics > whateverReslastgenrunsat/30FPS/lastgen graphics. Duh!

I haven't played this, obviously, but I think you might need to go back and replay some 90s shooters, and what on Earth are you referring to when you say the "big ones?" Call of Duty? Halo? I doubt those games' budgets are too much bigger than this one's, especially with the marketing this one's gotten.

I haven't got as far as perfect dark, but what I've played I really like. I've streamed a bunch of the early stuff. Last night I went through the first two levels on Uber. I hope it doesn't turn out like perfect dark suggests, because right now I'm having so much fun. If you want to see the levels my profile on twitch is here.

Well then I guess it's more shadow warrior for me. Sorry but 60 is too much for something I can already do that I got for 20. And Transistor is out too.

Completed. I'd rank this right up there with Riddick actually, absolutely amazing game if you like fps games. Let's wait until the 20th when the embargo is over. I'm putting out plenty of videos at that point. :) (incidentally, of Transistor too.

I have a question about the full body awareness in the game. It's something that Starbreeze did/does really well, i.e. the weight of Riddick's punches causing the camera to fling around as if you're actually putting weight into it, seeing your character's legs, casting a shadow when walking past a light source, etc. Is that something that MachineGames paid attention to as much as they did with Riddick? It's one of the reasons I like the Crysis and Halo games so much, too, I think.

But Riddick had puzzles,third person stuff,stealth,hidding bodies,glowy eyes,Vin Diesel,FPS,Hand to Hand combat. This isn't Riddick. It's a shooter.

So, major spoilers

I believe this game has a fully playable version of the first Wolfentein!!

The music is also there!

Crazy big spoiler.
Just did the nightmare sequence in the hideout. It was just the first level of Wolf3D. I wonder if there are more "nightmares".
