Nintendo Hosting Smash Bros and new 3DS Game Discussions at E3

Usually they only have these evening developer discussions for significant games, so I'm guessing the new 3DS game is something big. Hopefully it's cool.
for better or worse my expectations are really high. Do we know about any 3DS games for 2015? This could be a real keystone title.

I absolutely love the Golden sun series... But GS3 was not up to par. I want to see Camelot come back to rpg glory.

Or a new Super Mario RPG. Still one of my favorite games ever

Honestly they either weren't ready to develop on the 3DS or they hal-assed it or it was rushed. Or all 3. But I can at least hope for a conclusion to the story. Golden Sun series on GBA still remain my favorite RPG's.

I hope the Manga isn't indicative of Majora's origins because it was pretty lame IMO.

Luckily I haven't read it then, haha. Besides, I want everything I read to be canon. But in summery, what did it say? Still I wouldn't be to worried about it, I doubt Nintendo would copy a manga. IF they do a Majora origins at all, that is.

Because, not entirely on-topic but it bothers me, more than it should, that Zelda games are almost always expending the individualism of each game, instead of giving the happened events more depth. They have a shitload of established stories to tell, yet they always come up with new things. Talk about a luxury problem.

In summary
there was a 4 legged like Monster known as Majora, a God masquerading as a bard essentially played the song of time in an area where time did not seem to exist or move, by forcing the flow of time this bard-like God killed the monster and carved it's hide into what is to be known as Majora's Mask. The Bard like God is implied to be the Fierce Deity in a way.

As I said. Lame.

I'm sure instead of Zelda U, they'd give a whole Q&A to an enhanced N64 Zelda port, whose more significant predecessor wasn't even fully part of it's respective E3 conference but silently unveiled as a 3DS remaster on the E3 homepage.

Pretty much.

It will be a new game. Likely a new IP, even.

They can focus on both. Especially if the the other Q&A is also about NFC in Smash.

It would be extremely odd to say it as "A Q&A based on an unannounced 3DS game" then, if it's about NFP.
They would just say it's about NFP as a whole since it's their new "platform".

I didn't go thought the 11 pages of speculation, but has anyone considered it could just be Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire remakes?
It probably has been cited so, what were the cons against it?

I don't see MM3D for a round table. I can imagine a round table for the Pokemons remakes, but not for a Zelda remake. And Eiji Aonuma will probably do a round table for Zelda Wii U.

Why would they spend an hour and a half on an already announced remake and call it an unannounced game?

Again, it's going to be for a new game. Not a remake or something we already know about.

Didn't Reggie hint at a new Metroid on the VGX show? Maybe it's that.

He sure did, he even made sure that everyone saw it.
The Retro guy almost said yes when asked if they are working on Metroid next, it was like 'ye... i can't say'.

Edit: It was Reggie who said it, watched it now. He said 'yea...who's to say...'.

I feel like Nintendo is the easiest company to make rumors about. Pick something game related that Reggie is wearing or has on his desk, then say it is a hint about a new 3ds or Wii U game.

It had better not be MM3D because it's a near certainty that that's coming, and I'd rather not spend an hour and a half going over a port. Same goes for Pokemon, too, since it's just a remake, and another game in a series that just had a release last year. It needs to be a separate new cornerstone title or a new IP.

Pointless retro-ism. The 3DS is powerful enough to achieve a decent looking polygonal Metroid, I have no doubt. We don't need to go Mega Man 9 up in here.

We need either Wario Land Wii-, Muramasa-, or Rayman tech applied to the Metroid art direction.

Well there's that rumored list that shows "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night 2" on it. I wonder if that's the 3DS game.

No, because these lists are never real. But I hope Igarashi has already made some plans and perhaps found a publisher...

Hey, you know what major Nintendo IP has been conspicuously absent from the 3DS so far?

Inject it into my veins PLEASE!

Please, dear god. I need a new Warioware game after missing the Wii U version due to lack of Wii U.

You mean the 100% fake list?

You know, I think in order for it to be 100% fake there would be fewer titles that are guaranteed to be playable there.
I almost forgot how cynical some Gaffers can be, even in the midst of all the E3 hype. Remember these predictions? I suppose you can say that list is only 20% fake now, at least until Pac-Man and Mii are announced.

I wonder if he still has a good professional relationship with the guys at Good-Feel (re: Wario Land Shake, Kirby Epic Yarn and Yarn Yoshi). Before they left Konami, they were the Konami Kobe studio that made the likes of CV64 and Circle of the Moon, prior to Konami making IGA control of the brand.

Reuniting IGA with others who know their shit when it comes to making CV-style games could be nice. Even better if it would imply that Nintendo would continue to allow them to make the games they want to make.

In my mind it's a new 2.5D Metroid game for 3DS made by Retro's supposed second team alongside Monster Games, but in reality it's going to be something extremely underwhelming and won't live up to whatever hype it's currently getting.

It won't be.
1. 3DS NFP doesn't lunch until half way through next year. They wouldn't focus on it when WiiU NFP is out this year.
2. QoL isn't for 3DS.

3ds NFP launches sometime in the first half of the year, not halfway through the year.

Thought I would be the only one in this thread to hope it's GS4. My favorite RPGs to this day as well, and I enjoyed Dark Dawn as much as I could, warts and all.

Imagine those summons with decent graphics and 3D cranked to max tho :U

It would be perfect to see:
Metroid 3DS

It would be very good to see
Majora Mask

It would be okey-ish to see:
Advance wars

It will be:
Daigasso

Throw enough shit at a wall and some will stick.
But it's still shit.
They're fake because they have no source and are fabrications, regardless of if they luck out.

I can't really think of a game that would warrant 90 minutes of discussion pre-release aside from Majora's Mask. With that you wouldn't be worried about spoiling anything, and the game is big enough that there would be plenty to show. Either that or a new IP.

I'd prefer Metroid, but most likely you could beat that game in 90 minutes if it's a sidescroller. :p

The list itself is 100% fake. You can guess some of the stuff on there is true, but what the list is pretending to be is fake.

thats cute, but who else here actually predicted Megaman, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer in the same post?

I didn't say that one. I said the stupid "Symphony of the night 2" and "shard of nightmare" list is fake. Smash one may be legit. And honestly anyone could have predicted megaman and villager. Wii Fit trainer is the only outlier and the others haven't come true yet.

Things that have been discussed at past roundtables:

2013
  • Pokemon X/Y
2012
  • Wii U
  • Nintendoland
  • NSMB U
  • miiverse
  • gamepad
2011
  • Skyward Sword
  • Luigi's Mansion
  • Super Mario 3D Land
  • Brief Mention of Pikmin 3
  • Ubisoft also had their own Wii U roundtable ft ghost recon and killer freaks from space or whatever that turned into zombi u
2010
  • 3DS hardware
  • Ocarina of Time 3D (brief mention)
  • Steel Diver
  • Star fox 64 3D
  • Nintendogs + Cats
  • Skyward Sword
2009
  • New super mario bros Wii
  • Wii Sports Resort
  • Spirit Tracks
  • Mario Galaxy 2
2008
  • Animal Crossing City Folk
  • Wii Sports Resort
  • Wii Music
  • Wii Fit

Every year apart from last year has basically been discussing games that were revealed earlier in the year or earlier at E3, and discussing them in further detail. It's almost always been part of nintendo's flagship franchises, or showing off software that ties into their BRAND NEW HARDWARE.

Ocarina and star fox 3d are shown off because they were one of the few existing nintendo IPs to be announced for upcoming hardware. Those are the only times that 'remakes' have been at the roundtable. I do not expect Majora's Mask to be the focus of the entire roundtable.

Last year was the first year, I believe, that the roundtable has been dedicated to ONE GAME. Sales-wise, I think, it was also nintendo's biggest game last year (correct me if i'm wrong.) This year, Smash bros will be their biggest game, in all likelihood (3DS and Wii U sales combined), so it makes sense that it's getting its own roundtable.

The 3DS game will be one of the following, I think:
  • New title in a major franchise (releasing this year)
  • New IP that MIYAMOTO has been working on (releasing either this year, or next spring)
  • Something related to NFP that required more explanation than a trailer. Nintendo's flagship NFP game, possibly.

It will not be:
  • A remake (pokemon, majora's mask)
  • 3rd Party
  • A game from a franchise that hasn't broken the 40-50 million copies sold barrier (unless it's a brand new MIYAMOTO Ip)

Nintendo franchises that have broken the 40 million barrier:
  • Mario (includes kart, sports, luigi, etc)
  • Pokemon
  • Wii Sports
  • Zelda
  • Wii Fit
  • Donkey Kong

It would be perfect to see:
Metroid 3DS

It would be very good to see
Majora Mask

It would be okey-ish to see:
Advance wars

It will be:
Daigasso

Perfect:

Metroid 3D
Pikmin 3D

Very good:

Wave Race 3D
1080 Snowboarding 3D

Expected:

Majora's Mask 3D

Unexpected but would go nuts:

Kid Icarus Uprising sequel

Right but with Nintendo first half means in May and we all know it.
And regardless, it still makes no sense.
The WiiU is the main focus for NFP.
It needs the exposure and software.
It's launching this year.
There is absolutely no reason to dedicate an hour and a half to something we won't see for another year when they already have NFP coming this year for a system.

Pokemon ORAS will far outsell Smash, but I doubt it'll be the roundtable game.

Ok, biggest, non-remake. :)

I honestly expected the roundtable to be about ORAS, but, it seems like they didn't deem it necessary. The roundtables usually talk about new stuff they added, their thought process, neat things they put in the games (like the zelda level in 3d land). A remake/port doesn't really have much developer insight to add, compared to a brand new entry or brand new IP.

Perfect:

Metroid 3D
Pikmin 3D
I have some bad news; Nintendo (or the team responsible for the franchise) already tried something like this for their handheld systems, but they would have to drasticly decrease the amount of Pikmin you can take with you. Didn't make Miyamoto happy.
