I disagree, not every game needs a protagonist. The Soul series should continue to have as character creator and tell its story through the level design, npcs and text. People who want cinematic story telling with protagonist should try the Uncharted series which I too love, not all experiences should be the same.

Exactly. I have Dragon Age for dark-fantasy waifoo/ husbandos simulation and senseless blather. Or Elder Scrolls if I want to wander all over God's green earth and read the thousand pieces of paper--or books, scrolls and tomes--left for whatever reason in people's underwear drawers. The Souls series is served well by a minimalist narrative; it allows the mind to fill in the blanks.

Will they promote this as Demon’s Souls successor? Since they intend to carry the franchise over to the current generation, how likely is a remastered release of the first one? I wouldn’t be opposed to it.

I've been reading through this thread and I just want to say that I can't describe the amount of hype for this title my good fellow GAFfers. I even tried to find a .gif to express my hype and I couldn't!

How did From Software get away from Sony's lawyers by releasing an almost identical game with a very similar name (Dark Souls), was it ever explained?

Sony: We won't sue you if you make us a Demon's Souls II and III.

Most likely Sony just didn't think it would be a huge hit with gamers. Now it's a huge franchise, From Software is now a top tier studio, and Sony gets to ride on Dark Souls' success.

"first next-gen souls game" should be enough.

The character motions do the talking, same run cycle as demon's /dark souls

What is up with all those juniors asking the same questions over and over again

I actually would like one main protagonist (perhaps silent such as with Dead Space) for the first playthrough, and unlocked afterward for SP the ability to customize the character.

There's four thousand comments.
Well, to be fair, there are like a dozen comments that have been repeated 500 times each. For every poor sap wondering when the PC version is coming, there are a dozen faithful ready to let them know that the answer is, "never!"

And about a quarter of them is people asking or answering that question. It's not hard to miss on damn near any page of this thread. Asking it at this point isn't just skipping the OP but skipping the entire conversation.

There's a multiplat version of this game right over here... down in that dark hole, you can trust me - go ahead and see for yourself - you have to get right at the edge and lean over to see it though.

That might suffer from a lack of focus. I'm not sure how well they can integrate the latter (create-your-character) whilst taking advantage of a character set in stone.

Not really. Stuff like Ninja Gaiden Sigma (and its sequels) and ME, showed us that there are numerous loopholes out of exclusivity agreements. Whether its the passage of time (they expire) or you change a few pixels, unless you own the IP, don't bet on a 3rd party developer or publisher to keep the game off other platforms out the same fanboy obsessions that drive the internet masses. With few exceptions--Itagaki, LVL-5--there aren't the same battlelines drawn behind the scenes that enthusiasts create for themselves.

This might be the biggest exclusive pulled by home consoles to lure PC gamers since Halo honestly.

Maybe just eliminate cutscenes in replays and create it similarly to demon's souls?

While I've been having a ball with these recent leaks (major Souls fan here), I do feel bad for the devs, especially since we're so close to E3. I wonder how much havok this is causing on their side of things.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

As much as it is a disappointment to see this leak, I bet they are ecstatic at the response so far.

Considering how much Shu gushed about Demon's Souls do people really think it's that much of a stretch that Sony would help with development / publish the game. Didn't he say aspects of PS4 were inspired by Demon's Souls?

Ah, that's very true I suppose. This and the earlier screenshot thread trending for days is a good measure of how much they're loved around these parts.

This statement is still as confusing now as it was when I first read it.

Gushing? I remember him hating demons souls and calling it unbelievably bad.

I think I'm the only one believing this, but this has "control" written all over it.

First shady screencaps, then webm snippets.
Both posted during friday working hours, leading to E3.
Why not leak the whole trailer ?

I mean, battlefield, AC trailers, .. when a leaker has the trailer, he shares it.

This guy wants to control the hype and teases the whole thing.

Alright DemonNite, you can come out now
